Chapter 1

Derek comes back to the ER, he has to do a few hours of work. Emergencies are rather calm. Immediately, Derek notices a lonely little girl with crutches and a backpack. She is very cute, brunette. Nurses are busy elsewhere.

Derek walks up to the girl, kneels to her height.

-Hello girl, where are your parents?

The young girl does not answer, she must not speak to the stranger. He is a doctor, he has a gown, he is very handsome, this doctor thinks she. She decides to answer him politely.

-I can't answer strangers.

-You are a very intelligent girl. My name is Derek Shepherd, I am a surgeon. You shouldn't be all alone, that's why I ask you where am your parents.

Derek looks the girl in her eyes, she seems to trust him gently.

-It's my mom who brought me here. I need a surgeon for my knee. She went to the bank and told me she was going to get some money.

Derek takes the piece of paper. He smiles at Patty. Derek gets up and unfolds the paper. He reads the contents of the letter and turns his back on Patty. His face immediately changes, he turns his gaze on this cute child Derek is terrified and shocked.

In this letter Patty's mother says she is abandoning her daughter.

-Is there a problem with my mom? Patty asks seeing Derek's physical reaction.

Derek recovers.

-Patty listen to me, you and me, we're going to get out of the emergency room and find a quieter place.

Don't worry, you can trust me, I want to help you. Where we go there are other doctors, they are my friends.

Patty is scared; she doesn't understand what's going on. She is holding her bear closer to her.

-Patty look me in the eye, I'm not going to hurt you. Your mom brought you here to the hospital, here you are safe, you are with doctors. And I can tell you that they are very good people, I know them all, I have trained them. I promise you that nothing and no one will hurt you, I protect you. Felix is right to love me a lot besides you too, you would love me a lot if you knew me.

-Really ?

-Absolutely.

Patty smiled at Derek softly, he smiled back at her. He holds out his hand Patty takes him and follows him out of emergency.
