Chapter Five

The Reliable Dingo

A crash, and footsteps. Luka rolls himself from beneath the car, noticing a feline figure looking over one of the uncrumpled papers that littered the floor with interest.

"What the hell is that..?" He mutters to himself. The creature's ear twitches, and he grabs onto a wrench, bringing himself upright from the creeper he was laying on.

The cat-like creature turns, holding onto the schematic, and looking at Luka with glowing green eyes.

"What an interesting little place…" The creature purrs. "I was hoping to find the damned Lone Wolf Ranger… But it looks like I found something more… Interesting."

Luka scowls, grip tightening as the creature approaches, tail swishing back and forth.

Luka's sudden silence… Worried Kat just a bit. He's not normally that quiet.

"Luka?... Luka, hello?" Kat calls into her phone. "... If this is some sort of joke, I swear, when I get back, you're so going to get it…"

She turns up the call volume, and picks up on another voice.

Luka's not normally quiet. Nor does he invite people over.

Now she's even more worried.

Rock blinks as he again hears a strange noise coming from across the street. He worked at Jungle Karma, and he knew there was some sort of… Metalworker or something like that in the garage.

But this sounded a lot like fighting and not like machine stuff. He pulls himself out of the tent he set up, and glances curiously at the little shack next to his place of work.

"What's going on in there..?" He mutters to himself- only for his eyes to widen as he watches Luka go flying out of the garage and roughly land in front of him.

"Ow, ow, shit, ow…" Luka hisses, grabbing onto the wrench and propping himself up. He dropped his phone somewhere along the fall, and the cat-thing wasn't giving him room to breathe, nevermind find it.

Rock runs up to Luka, quickly kneeling down to his fallen height. "Hey, you need some help?"

Luka gives Rock a glance. 'Even the bloody tree-hugging hobo is here. Great, my day couldn't get any worse.' He grumbles to himself. "I'd highly recommend running." He says, pushing himself off the ground.

He wasn't… Entirely familiar with that kung-fu mumbo jumbo the twins used, but… Magic is just science that people don't understand yet. He scowls, twirling the wrench in his hands as the cat-like beast approaches.

The cat smirks, and charges at Luka with her claws. He quickly uses the metal wrench to block her furious swipes, just enough to keep him from getting cut.

"Don't worry, I'm more familiar with this stuff than you'd expect." Rock cracks his knuckles, and a brown aura pools off of him, forming his own animal spirit, a giant Dingo. The beast grabs the cat between its jaws- and throws it back into the garage it came from.

"Hey, watch the car-" Luka yells, but it's far too late. The smoke clears, and the cat is gone, but his precious Sprinter Trueno has a broken windshield.

"My baby!" He yells, voice rising to a shrill.

"Uh… Sorry?" Rock mutters, as Luka quickly rushes to check the damages.

"Ah- shit, the wipers are broke too..!" He whines out, slumping over defeatedly on its trunk, rubbing the car as if it was a pet. "Don't worry, baby, daddy's gonna fix this…"

The kid sounded like he was about to cry- Rock almost felt bad. There wasn't any sign of the cat creature- and it definitely wasn't defeated from a hit like that.

"Uh, kid-"

"Hm?" Luka glances up as if he wasn't just bemoaning the loss of a loved one.

"Do you know why that thing attacked you? Did it tell you anything?"

Luka blinks- "Oh, crap, right," and heads back outside. Rock's brow quirks, and he follows after him.

"Luka, for god's sake, answer me!"

An anxious screaming sounds from a nearby bush, and Luka squats down, finding the phone he'd dropped.

"Stop- stop screaming, woman, I'm right here. Calm down." He sighs, lifting the phone back to his ear.

"Oh, thank god… Do you have any idea how worried I was?! You're such an asshole!"

Luka winces at Kat's yelling, moving the phone away from his ear. "Sorry, my bad. Look, I got attacked."

That was enough to stun Kat silent. "Was it-"

"Some… Weird cat-looking thing." He mutters. "It was looking for your old man."

"Oh no… Okay, I'm on my way back." He hears a few sounds- frantic packing, probably. "It might be a few days, but I'll be there as soon as I can."
