"Pssst! Remus."

He blinked sleepily, grumbling softly. What kind of weird dream was that? He'd just been at Hogwarts, with Padfoot and Prongs - what did Tonks do here? It certainly was her voice.

Someone jiggled his shoulder. "What?" he muttered, still refusing to properly wake up.

"Remus."

"Nymphadora?" Now he opened his eyes. Tonks wasn't in his dream - she was here. Kneeling next to his bed, jiggling his shoulder and talking. "It's the dead of night... What's the matter?"

"Go downstairs with me?" she asked.

Remus sat up a bit. Had she really just asked him to go downstairs? Now? Merlin, it surely was past midnight. "Excuse me?"

Tonks glanced at the door and back at him. "Molly left some chocolate cake today, but I had no chance to try it because of my patrol this evening. I wanna have some now -"

"Now?"

"Yeah. I'm hungry," she said, almost sounding a trifle annoyed. "And I thought you'd wanna join me 'cause you're fond of chocolate... Well?"

Remus held back a sigh. He'd definitely go back to sleep... if it wasn't for Tonks. And chocolate cake didn't sound too bad, did it? He finally nodded. "All right."

Tonks lit her wand saying Lumos and held out her hand for him. Smirking a bit, Remus took it and they sneaked out of the dark room into the even darker corridor. They tiptoed downstairs and Remus tightened his grip around Tonks's hand in case she'd trip or anything. Down in the hallway he carefully steered her past the troll leg. Tonks giggled as Remus almost tripped over it himself.

"I'm lucky to have such a gentleman as my nocturnal company," she said under giggles, "without you I'd've woken up the entire house."

Remus rolled his eyes and chuckled. "I don't doubt that."

He held the kitchen door open for her, waited until she was inside and closed it without a noise. Tonks was already walking over to the kitchenette. "A-hah!" She must've found what she'd been looking for. The pink-haired woman turned, smiling fondly while holding a huge plate with a chocolate cake on it in her small hands.

"Better put that plate back down, Tonks. I don't know about you, but I prefer my cake without shards," he teased her.

"Hah hah," Tonks muttered, but placed the plate back on the kitchenette. "Then you gotta get a knife - unless you'd like some blood topping on your cake, of course?"

"I might like that the day before full moon, but I can hold my thirst for blood at bay tonight," he chuckled as he walked over to the drawer and picked a knife. "Have a seat, Nymphadora, I'll get the crockery." Remus swiftly pulled out a chair for her. She'd just been knocking down one after breakfast, which had woken up Mrs Black.

One minute later, they sat at the table, two plates with a piece of chocolate cake in front of them. Remus glanced at Tonks. Her slice was large.

"You're gonna eat all this?" he asked her in disbelief, gesturing vaguely at the piece of cake.

"Yeah."

"This is literally a chocolate bomb, Tonks."

Tonks shrugged.

"Hey, uhm, mind if I show you a spell?"

She looked at him suspiciously. "I do if it turns my cake into vegetables."

He laughed softly. "Don't worry, it won't. You'll like it."

"Go on, then."

Remus drew his wand and pointed it at her piece of cake. "Fraga," he muttered.

Tonks let out a small cry of glee. Ten strawberries had appeared on top of her cake. The young auror immediately changed her hair into a red tone that matched the strawberries. "That's amazing! I need you to teach me that spell some time!"

"It's pretty easy. Just point your wand at the food you want your strawberries on and say Fraga."

Without hesitation Tonks drew her wand and pointed it at her cake. "Fraga." Two a bit odd looking strawberries appeared. Still, Tonks was beaming.

"Never seen more odd-looking strawberries," Remus noted.

"I bet they taste amazing," Tonks said, sounding very convinced.

"Is that so? Well, come on and hand me one."

"No."

"No?"

Tonks arched both her eyebrow. "You just insulted my precious strawberries."

"I bet they'll forgive me," he said, "come on now, let me try one."

"Fine." Tonks was grinning as she picked up a strawberry. "Open your mouth and catch it."

Remus blinked. She didn't really mean that did she? Without noticing, his jaw had dropped. He quickly shut his mouth again. "Catch it?" he repeated, puzzled. "That's ridiculous, Tonks. You could just hand me one, you know...

"But where's the fun about it?"

Remus lifted an eyebrow. "Sorry, but why do you need fun in eating a strawberry?"

Tonks shoved one of the strawberries Remus had conjured into her mouth before she answered. "No fun, no strawberry. C'mon, no one'll see you."

"Okay, okay, but you have to aim properly."

Tonks clapped her hands enthusiastically and nodded. Remus opened his mouth, feeling very stupid. He glanced at Tonks, who had picked up one of the strawberries she'd conjured and was now tossing it at his directional. He had to make a weird jump on his chair to catch it - Tonks was a horrible thrower. She didn't seem to care tho. The young witch was applauding and Remus couldn't help but smile.

"Well? How does it taste, Professor?"

"Surprisingly good, actually. But you really have to work on the shape. This one looked like a tiny strawberry-coloured pineapple."

Tonks stuck out her tongue. "You're just jealous 'cause the ones you did look so boring."

"Maybe..." he muttered, smiling softly.

They sat in silence as they are the cake - well, apart from Tonks humming to herself. She reminded Remus a bit of Dumbledore in this point. He too often hummed when he ate Molly's food. Once Remus had eaten his own small slice of cake, he continued watching Tonks. She didn't seem to notice so he thought it was okay. Tonks was still humming to herself. She accurately placed half a strawberry one every bite she took. Remus could hear her feet bouncing softly beneath the table. And he was smiling again...

"Done? Shall we go upstairs?" Remus asked once she had emptied her plate.

Tonks held up her index as though to imply she wasn't finished yet. She picked up her cake and licked the last bits of crumbs and chocolate cream off it.

"Gross," Remus muttered, chuckling softly.

Tonks stuck out her tongue again - this time it was covered with chocolate. Out of a sudden he wondered how she would taste. Tonks and chocolate was the most beautiful flavor he could imagine. Merlin, was he blushing? He had to say something, pretend he wasn't thinking about kissing her - now!

"You're a hazard to society, Nymphadora Vulpecula Tonks," he laughed.

Tonks stopped dead and peered at him. "You know my middle name?"

"Yeah."

"How?"

He shot her a grin. "A man can't tell all his secrets..."

"Git."

"Cheers."

They stared at each other for a second, then both burst into laughter. Tonks almost fell of her chair and Remus laughed even more. "That's - not - funny!" she breathed.

"Come on, let's go upstairs," Remus said when they had finally stopped laughing. He lifted his wand and let their dirty dishes float into the sink, where they silently began to clean themselves. They left the kitchen and tiptoed through the hallway, careful not to fail and wake anyone now. Remus saw Tonks to her room, opening the door for her. Then, Tonks turned to speak to him.

"I've noticed, you know."

Remus suddenly felt all sick and sweaty. "Noticed w-what?"

"You staring at me."

He ran a hand through his hair, nervously looking around for someone to help him out of this situation. "Listen, Tonks... I'm really sorry, I -"

"Don't be," she said, offering him a great smile.

"What?"

"Don't be sorry, it's fine," she reassured him to his relief. "But," she continued and he froze, "I need you to be honest with me now: What exactly where you thinking before you called me a hazard to society and distracted me with my middle name?

Good Merlin, she really had noticed the one thing he'd never wanted her to notice. Was she a Legilimens? Or was his poor distraction just... well, too poor for a trained auror? But he had to say something, to come up with an excuse. Or would she notice too? Of course she would, he told himself, Remus Lupin, you're a lousy liar. He dared to look Tonks in the eye and knew that somehow every chance of putting up a lie was gone by the sight of her curious, almost plotting eyes.

"I - I was thinking..." he stuttered, "I was thinking about how... how you'd taste with all the chocolate on your tongue."

Something in Tonks's facial expression changed and he wasn't sure what it was, so he looked down at his own feet. For sure he was blushing. This was all so very embarrassing.

"Look, I'm really sorry, Tonks," he muttered, "I should've never been thinking something like that. I had no right to think that. I'm so sorry."

"Then stop thinking," Tonks said, suddenly stepping closer.

"Wha-"

He never got to finish that sentence.

In the twinkling of an eye two hands had grabbed his collar and he was pinned against the doorframe. Remus gasped as Tonks's lips met his. He had never imagined that their first kiss would be like this. He had never imagined them to have something like a first kiss at all.

"Stop thinking," Tonks murmured against his lips.

And he tried to. He focused on feeling Tonks's soft lips on his. It was incredible. Without really noticing, he cupped her cheek so with his hands, thumbs stroking her pale skin. Tonks's hands wandered up around his neck as she pulled him further down to her. Her tongue slowly grazed his lower lip.

He gave in with a sigh and granted her access. Their tongues met and Remus finally savored the taste of chocolate on hers. There was even a hint of strawberry. It was divine, she was divine.

"Well?" she manged to whisper.

"You taste amazing," he murmured, pulling her even closer, longing to taste more.

They broke apart when there was no oxygen left in their lunges. Tonks was beaming and so was he.

"This might've just been the best moment of my life," Remus laughed softly, running a hand through his hair.

"So we're gonna repeat it, huh?"

"As long as Molly's got food around... we're definitely gonna repeat this."
