Hello it's me again. I just cannot help myself. I have to publish my storys I don't now why. But maybe some of you like them.

It's just Eva.

On a Sunday evening in September, Neil came home from his girlfriend's house. The second year of high school had just started a few weeks ago and for now it seemed to become as bad as the last year. Not that he was bad in school… no and he had a beautiful girlfriend, Abby, which also meant that he had sex but he missed his best buddy. As he walked by the neighbour's house he sighted. Still no light in the windows.

'We will retune home soon.' Eva had written six weeks ago. Eva, his best buddy ever since their families had moved in their new homes at the same day 13 years ago.

But in March last year, her father was assigned to a company in Europe and he took his family with him. Eva had written a lot of mails to Neil and even sent postcards from Rome, Paris, Düsseldorf, Madrid and London. They had stayed in contact talking about their lives but in the last 6 weeks, nothing.

He missed his best friend so very much. And he wanted to introduce her to Abby, his girlfriend. It would be so much fun to hang out with them.

Lost in his thoughts he entered his parents' house. When he closed the door he could hear his mother from the living room. She was on the phone.

"Yeah, I talked to Desna a few hours ago…. Yes they are home but they have no energy because of their sudden retune, there was no time to tell the energy supplier, …. Oh did you know, that Traci is staying in London until she graduates…"

Neil's head shot up and he hurried into the living room.

"They are home?" he asked.

His mother looked at him slightly confused. "Hey Neil, yes but…" Her son hurried out of the room. She called after him, holding the phone to her shoulder: " Don't go over now, they will be asleep!"

Neil slowed down, that was really not a good idea to visit them now. But maybe… he went to the fence between the gardens. His old playhouse still stood there. It had been his and Eva's headquarter for all their adventures. And it had two entrances one on his side and one that leaded into her garden. He opened the tiny door and looked inside. There was a box in the small room.

'To Neil' was written on the sign.

He took it happily and went to his room. The box was filled with cookies. Obviously from France, because of the Eifel-Tower on top of each cookie. She had told him that she lived in France most of the time. Neil grinned. Eva was back! And he would visit her after school tomorrow.

**O**

When he arrived at his high school the next morning he saw his girlfriend Abby running towards him. She seemed a little angry and he instantly wondered what he had done wrong. Nothing, he figured as she kissed him to say hello but still she seemed tense.

"What's wrong?" Neil asked.

She snorted: "There is a new member in science-club."

"That is good, isn't it?"

"It's a girl."

Neil chuckled. "Are you jealous that you are not the only girl in our exclusive club anymore?"

"No, just afraid that she might take away my boyfriend." Abby said. Oh yes she was jealous.

He took her hand. "Don't worry; you are the only one for me."

As they tuned around the corner to the place under the tree, where they always met their friends Abby sighed.

"Oh, she is there."

Neil saw the four other boys of the science-club talking to a girl with long black curls and dark skin.

"Eva!?" Neil was surprised. Before she went to Europe with her family she had attended a private school which also included the high school classes. He didn't know why she now went to the public high school but he loved the fact.

She turned to him. "NEIL!" she shouted and ran to him.

Neil just left Abby where she was and ran over to hug his best buddy in the world. He was so happy to see her.

"Hey, you've grown." He said smiling.

"You to." She answered.

"Abby come here. Let me introduce; This is Eva, my best buddy in the world. Eva, this is Abby, my girlfriend, I told you about."

Eva smiled at Abby: "It's really nice to meet you, I hope we can be friends."

"Sure…" Abby said and was rescued by the bell that called them into their classes.

Neil gave Abby a kiss and went with Mark to gym class.

"You are in trouble." Mark said.

Neil still grinned from one ear to the other: "Why?"

"I think it will be a problem for Abby if you hang out with Eva."

Neil just waved it of: "Nah, I don't think so."

Mark hesitated: "Dude… are you blind?"

"Oh come on, it's just Eva."

"Hey man, I'm just saying… but I can help you here… If Eva has got a boyfriend, Abby doesn't need to worry about her anymore."

Neil started to laugh. That was really funny. "You wanna make a move on Eva? Are you serious? This is the Eva who made sand cookies for us and ate them herself. The Eva, who was bathing naked in our pool in summer and the one who liked to watch us playing videogames."

"Nah,… I don't think she is that girl anymore. Honestly, when I saw her today it hit me.
The hair, her eyes, her curves, she also moves very different now. And did you hear that slight French accent? I'm afraid it will be lost soon again but she became a very fine lady in France…." Mark really seemed to have a crush on her.

"It's still just Eva." Neil replied not even thinking about Marks arguments.

**O**

Neil did not seem to notice the tension between Eva and Abby while lunch break. He sat next to Abby while Eva sat together with Mark on the other side of the table. Nathan und Jeff joined them. Both of them didn't know Eva from the past.

"How was it to live in France?" Jeff asked eagerly to build up a conversation.

Eva smiled: "It's really beautiful…"

"Oh tell them the story about the winery you wrote me about." Neil said with a grin and was confused that Abby kicked him under the table.

Eva smiled and started with the story. Neil added details she had forgotten but already told him in an e-mail. Soon the boys and Eva talked easily about the differences between France and America, the schools the politics and so on. No one noticed that Abby got up and left the table. Except for Eva.

"Neil,…"

He looked up.

Eva pointed slightly at Abby who now left the room. "You should go after her."

**O**

It tuned out, that Mark was right. Abby and Eva didn't get along quiet well. Neil always wanted to include his best buddy in everything. When he went to the movie with Abby he asked Eva to join them. The first time Eva agreed but after that she excused herself politely and almost stopped completely to hang out with them. Neil was confused.

"I don't know what's wrong with her." He told Abby as they went home after watching a football game, which was boring for Neil. But Abby had enjoyed it.

Abby shrugged: "I have seen her hanging out with some cheerleaders. Maybe she thinks she is too good for us."

Neil frowned: "That's not like her." Sure, he had seen Eva hanging out with other students but when they had met in the last three weeks she was always friendly. She answered his text massages in her usual way, gave him a smile when the crossed each other in the hall and when they saw each other in the garden she had climbed into the playhouse where they still met and laughed about his jokes.

Abby looked at him: "People drift apart, you know?"

"But… yesterday when we met in the playhouse it did not feel that we are drifting apart." He was sad and confused.

"You are still meeting her in that old thing?" Abby asked sharply.

Neil did not sense the danger he was in. He just nodded: "Yeah, sure."

**O**

Two weeks later in lunchbreak Neil was looking for Abby. They were supposed to meet for lunch but she didn't show up. He remembered that she had said something about the science-club so he went there to find her. And she was there…

**O**

In the evening Neil looked at his cell phone there was a massage from Eva. 'Hey, you alright? You left school in a hurry. What happened?'

He smiled sadly. Of cause she was worried. 'Meet you in our house in five minutes?' he texted back and she agreed.

He grabbed an old wool blanked and went into the garden. It was pretty cold by now and he covered the cold and dirty wooden floor with the blanked like he always did when he was a kid. Not long after that Eva climbed into the house.

"Hey,…" she said softly.

"Hey." He sounded lame.

"What's wrong?"

He took a deep breath. It was not easy to talk about it but she was his best buddy, she would understand. "You know, Abby acted wired lately…" he waited for a response but Eva said nothing. "And today… when I looked for her in lunchbreak. I Saw her and Andrew… having sex in our club-room."

Eva looked shocked and opened her mouth to say something but he continued: "They saw me and Abby freaked out. 'This is because you betrayed me with Eva!' she shouted and then… well… I left…"

Eva leaned her head on the wall next to the tiny window. "I'm sorry if I caused trouble with you and Abby."

Neil could see that she really felt bad about it. But she had not done anything wrong. "No, no Eva. You didn't. I don't know what has gotten into her, except for Andrew." Neil snorted.

"I think she just wants to show you what you are about to lose, when you keep hanging out with other girls."

"Pah, but she kicked herself out of the game with that!" Why did Eva defend Abby?

Eva sighed. "She told me to bag off, you know? So this might really be my fault. She was afraid of losing her handsome boyfriend."

Neil started to laugh hard: "Is that what she said; Handsome boyfriend?"

"No, those are my words. Honestly Neil, when I saw you again at school after one year, for a moment my knees got week. I know you are still your goofy self, you still make the stupidest jokes I've ever heard but… well… your appearance has improved." Eva shrugged.

Neil was stunned by her words. She really thought he was handsome? He looked over at her and suddenly it hit him… Mark had told him but he had not realized it until now… Eva was a girl! Of cause he always knew this but now… he could actually see it!

In the dim light that came though the tiny window from the streetlamp, her hair looked like silk and he wondered how it was to touch it. Her breasts… he had never noticed them before but now he had difficulties to look somewhere else. Slowly his eyes travelled down. Had she worn that skirt when she came in here? It was short. Very short. He could almost see her underwear if he just… NO! Suddenly he felt his pens getting tighter and he looked back at her face, which was only inches from his.

"Eva…"

She kissed him. And when he did not retune the kiss she pulled away and smiled, maybe a bit sad: "Sorry I just wanted to know how it fe…" he stopped her with a kiss.

They made out and hands started roaming. Soon his hand went under her shirt and he pulled it off her. He smiled. She wore a pink bra, such a girlish color for her. But seeing her like this made him truly understand that she was girl!

Then Eva stopped him. "You still have a girlfriend."

"She cheated on me first, remember?" and with that they started to kiss hard.

"Wow… that was…" Neil started.

"… mind-blowing. … And a really awful idea. This is what breaks up friendships." Eva finished after they had sex.

He agreed sadly. "Yeah…" he knew she was right. If they wanted to be friends this could destroy everything.

A small vibrating sound came from the corner of the house. Neil grabbed his pens and pulled his cell phone out.

"It's Abby."

"Answer it." Eva said.

Neil flipped open the old fashion phone: "What is it?"

"Neil." Abbys voice was loud enough for Eva to hear every word. "I'm sorry…." Abby was crying. "I didn't want to hurt you. … I was so jealous… but Mark said there is no reason… I believe you when you say she is just a friend… Please forgive me… I… I love you so much."

Neil stayed silent for a moment. He didn't know any more if he loved her. But just a minute ago he and Eva had agreed to stay friends. He looked over at her, and she nodded. Then she stared to get dressed. Maybe it was just because of cold air at the end of October but although because there was no more interest in him from her side.

"Yeah… I love you to. See you tomorrow." He ended the call and put on his pens and shirt.

"See, I told you."

"You were right, as always." He said and gave his best friend an intense look. "One last kiss?"

Eva smiled and reached gently for his face just to turn it slightly to the side and kissed him on the cheek. "Friends, remember?"

"Yeah, friends."

**O**

"Did you know what broke me and Abby up eventually?" Neil asked. They sat in a Bar celebrating Eva' promotion to Senior. The other colleagues had excused themselves two hours ago and now it were just Neil and Eva left.

"No." The relationship between Neil and Abby lasted until the end of high school. "Maybe that you went to college and she became a model in Las Vegas?" Eva took a sip of her drink.

"No, it ended six weeks before that. It was because I moaned your name."

Surprised by this fact Eva choked and began to cough. When she was clear enough to say something she asked: "In a dream like 'Eva, that was a stupid question?'"

Neil shook his head. "Nope,… in bed and more like 'Oh Eva, it feels so good to be inside of you.'"

The other people around them seemed to have stopped talking for a few seconds.

Eva looked at him, first there was shock in her eyes but then she smiled and shook her head.

"Silly."

"It's true, Eva." Neil was serious.

"Well, I would be lying if I said I had not to think about you while I was with other men."

"Oh really? Who?"

Eva just shrugged: "Jason, for example."

He grinned and set his drink down after finishing it with one sip. "Wanna give it another try?"

At first he could see the excitement in her eyes but then she looked down and shook her head.

"No Neil, it…"

He stopped her: "I know…" Then he found back to his goofy self: "Well if you change your mind, you have my number."

Both laughed. "Yes, I do." Eva smiled.

The End
