I do not own Inuyasha or How to train your dragon
Chapter 17
All she could do at the moment was fly, fly fast and far away from the confusing situation that she had ended up in. She felt the weight on her back and knew that she was trying to fly away from a situation that she partly brought with her, on his command as well.
Spotting a small island she decided to descend and if she really wanted to she could just throw him off and continue flying but she didn't. She landed softly and hunched down to let the boy off her. As he walked a few steps away from her she once again pondered on the idea of just leaving him there.
"Miko"
Looking to the boy that uttered that now strange sounding nickname, she did not answer but she looked at him, narrowing her eyes.
"Miko"
He said it again, she could not help the low growl escaping her mouth.
"Don't you dare growl at me Miko"
Again. That nickname. It brought back memories of the past and it hurt. She had not been there for very long but she thought that she could at least busy her mind so she would not have to face the past.
"Miko"
'Oh would you shut up! I'm trying not to have a breakdown!' her growl turned into a roar that echoed around them and the boy fell silent.
'I was good you know' she started 'I was adapting and I even got used to the new name and all' she stood and started walking around the boy on the edge of the small island.
'I was making friends, I was learning to use my new body' she stalked around him, eyes narrowing and teeth showing.
'I even got to make a human friend and I even decided to let him close and accept him as my rider' she slowed down and brought her body low to the ground.
'And then what happens' she stopped 'you' she glared at him 'you happened' now standing still ready to attack at any moment, she let out another roar
'EXPLAIN'
After they had landed and he had gotten off her she was staring into the sky and looked as if she would leave him there on that small island. He tried to get her attention with a name he had used for her for a long time before she disappeared and he got what he wanted but not quite as he wanted it. She was angry and her eyes never left his as she started to circle him like a beast stalking its prey.
This scene was not unfamiliar to him but he was usually the beast and not the prey. Trying out the strength of his new body by balling his hands into fists he knew he did not stand a chance if she decided to attack him.
He tried demanding respect as he had done many times in the past but it backfired and made her even angrier than before. All he could do was stand there and listen as she told him what she had been through and as she stopped and roared for an explanation he saw his moment.
"Please" the words felt weird and his voice came out lower than he had wanted it as the natural instincts in his body were trying to take over to make sure he stayed alive. He tried again.
"It's been so long since I saw you last" he felt his voice shake as he tried to get the words out "Calm down so we can talk" he could see her anger falter for a moment before he heard a shout. They both whipped their heads towards the sound and saw the other human and dragon that they had tried to escape not to long ago.
"They must have heard you"
He was barely able to finish his sentence before he was swept off the ground and carried away through the air again. This time she held him with her paws, close to her stomach, instead of on her back. She flew fast and did many sharp turns and maneuvers to try to lose the unwanted company. Soon he realised they were over the forest and before he could voice his idea of hiding in the trees she was plunging towards the ground. Slowing down just enough to be able to weave her flexible body through the trees and branches, a few sharp turns later and they were in a cave, alone. She held him for a while after they had landed, entirely focused on the sound of the other creature flying by. After a few minutes she let him go and went to the edge of the entrance of the cave to lie down and look out.
As he took a breath to start talking he was stopped by her.
'Don't' she growled out
"Don't what? I didn't even start" he answered
'Don't call me miko' she said as she turned her head to look at him 'It hurts when you call me miko, call me Blue'
"Blue? Why should I call you blue?" he asked
'It is the name given to me by the human that found me when I first arrived here'
"Fine but would you tell me where "here" is" he said as he sat down a few steps away from her.
'I do not know exactly where we are, I have only been here a short while'
"How long have you been here?" he asked
'A couple of weeks maybe' she said with a sigh 'It feels so weird but I enjoy the people I have met and the friends I have made in this short while'
"A couple of weeks? How is that possible" he stated more to himself as he seemed lost in thought
'I know right, I adapted to a new body and a new name in two weeks, it's strange but I think it has something to do with this body and the people' she let out a halfhearted laugh as she sighed again.
"No that's not it" he blurred out "I mean it's remarkable the way you can move after only two weeks in a new body but that's not what I meant" he said as he stood up.
'What do you mean?' she asked as she saw the confusion in his eyes.
"After you were gone we continued to live our lives as it was 'what you would have wanted' and the years started to fly by and soon we were in the time when you should have been born" he started to explain
'Should?' she tried
"As I was one of few who remained alive and knew of you I sought out you family around the time when you would have been born but I couldn't find you" he continued "I waited a few years because I thought I was too early but you never came and I realised that when your brother was born and you were nowhere to be found"
'WHAT' she roared out and stood up
"You were never born" he said again
'Wait I was never born?'
"No, not into the family that you used to have at least"
They stared at each other as this reality set in. She collapsed, feeling like crying but not knowing if this body could. A low whine spread throughout the cave as she lay there, trying to realise that her former life never was.
