Chapter 18

He watched as she collapsed onto the cave floor and heard her whine. He watched as she lay there, motionless. Had he not just seen her move he would have thought she was dead or at least unconscious. Not knowing what to do or how to help her in this moment of weakness he decided to sit down on the opposite side of the entrance, this body was still on high alert and was struggling to calm down and the emotional instability of the creature across from him did not help.

It had been about 500 years for him but only 2 weeks for her, her reaction was not so strange after all. To have to go through what she had and then be brought to another world and then find out, only a few weeks later, that her life was erased from history. She had been part of a great struggle and a wonderful journey that led her to many friends and enemies. It had been dangerous and she knew that but she had stayed in the past to right the wrong that she made and she had done it. She had found the shards and defeated Naraku only to be left out of the story completely.

As he sat there at the edge of the cave, thinking about how the gods had been cruel to her in more ways than he dared to count he was brought out of his thoughts as the creature across from him suddenly moved. She hastily stood up and turned to look at him. As their eyes met she slowly started walking towards him. His body reacted by sliding as far away from her as he could, pressing himself to the uneven surface of the cave. She got closer and closer and soon he was pinned to the cave wall, he could feel her head roaming his body but all he could do was stand still, his body paralysed with fear.

After what felt like an eternity he sensed something warm and slimy pry its way into his closed hand. He jerked his hand back and up to his face and only then did he realise that his palm was bleeding.

"What the.." he trailed of

'Give it here' said the creature

"Why? So you can eat it?!" the boy blurred out. The creature stepped back and looked at him.

'Why are you so scared? This isn't like you Sesshomaru' the creature said.

Sesshomaru. That sounded familiar for some reason. The boy looked to the creature and met her blue eyes. It seemed familiar.

"She" he mumbled. The creature stared at him for a few seconds and then started making a sound unlike anything he had ever heard her make before, she fell to the ground and slithered back and forth while holding her belly with her front paws. She was laughing at him.

"W-Why are you laughing!" he exclaimed while he felt his ears start to heat up.

"Stop it" he continued "I SAID STOP" he shouted and to his releaf he heard the sound die down.

'Oh my goodness I did not expect that' she wheezed out as her laughter stopped.

"What even happened?"

'Well you see when the boy whose body you now possess first met he called me it so many times I became angry with him so I took him on a not so joyous joy ride and he always corrected himself out loud when he thought of me as it to let me know he was trying to change' she told him

"Huh" was all he could muster

'Whatever happened when you passed over it seems the body is not yet used to its new mind' she said 'Because the Sesshomaru I know would not correct himself out loud since that would be admitting that he was wrong'

"Huh" came once again

'Your hand is bleeding and the smell is a tad irritating, mind if i clean it for you to remove the smell?'

"W-what?" said the boy, who snapped out of his trancelike state to look at his hand that was indeed bleeding from four small cuts made by his fingernails. He hadn't even noticed.

"How did this happen?" he asked out loud not expecting an answer.

'Honestly I don't know but i smelled it and when I looked at you you looked so angry'

"Huh" he said once more as he pulled out his open palm towards her to clean it

'I think the merge has done something to your head, Sesshomaru, usually you would not let me help unless it was life of death' she said nonchalantly as she cleaned his wounds.

"My mind is not as sharp as it was in my former body, I am hoping it recovers with some rest or over time. With this frail body my mind is the best weapon i possess at the moment" he said pulling his hand back to look at the now cleaned wounds "And to be perfectly honest this body is not doing what I want it to do, might be a side effect to the merge or a part of the boys mind still lingering and trying to take back control"

'Well whatever it is i guess we have to see what happens, we will have to work together and I think we need eachother now more than ever' she said as she laid down again

"What do you mean?"

'Well I used to be human and you used to be demon. I am now a dragon and I have no idea what this body can do, up until now I have relied on the body's natural instincts and trial and error. One thing I do know about us being human, like you are now and I'm sure you have no idea how to keep a human body healthy and safe' she said

"You do remember that I took care of Rin for her entire life do you not?" he commented as he went to sit down again

'And yet you are clueless, you have to sit near me'

"Why?"

'Well you see the nights are cold here and this body is quite warm, if you don't want to freeze to death tonight you need to sleep next to me or on me' she said ' since I think you would be quite uncomfortable sleeping on me we will start with next to me'

"Well I don't seem to have a choice in the matter" he huffed and walked up to her

'No you don't, you and I are in the same boat now. A new world and new bodies and I'm pretty sure you would be flayed alive by the people in this world if you said the wrong thing at the wrong time. Your body is that of a childs and you lack the physical strength and demon abilities you had in your former body so protecting yourself would be hard, unless you had a big strong dragon by your side'

"I understand, now stop talking. I'm quite tired" Sesshomaru said, ending the conversation and laying down next to her to get some well needed sleep.
