Corso clenched his teeth so hard he might have shatterd them. He looked at Sonny. This was bad. Sonny was eerily silent. He was tense, his fists clenched to the point of going white. If he didn't act soon, Sonny would make mistakes that would cost him suspected Sonnys mind of racing a million miles a minute, tryint to come up with a solution. Corso was going to stop him from doing something stupid. He turned to Bennett "Trace that signal, NOW." He said. Hawk approached them.
"Maybe I can help? This should not take long" He asked. Corso nodded, managing a small smile.
"Get to it Hawk, I'll handle this." He said, and touched Sonny's right arm. Sonny didn't even move, just staring at the screen. It was like he was completely frozen. Corso gently placed his hands on his shoulders. He needed to get Sonny out of here. To calm him and make him snap out of this."Let's talk somewhere more privately Sonny." He suggested mildly. Sonny could only nod, still reeling from what had just happened. Corso placed an arm around his shoulders and led him away.
As they reached the cabin, Corso took command. They both knew Sonny was in no state to lead right now. Sonny was in a state of shock, and he needed him to snap out of it, the sooner the better.
"Sonny… " Corso started as he pulled him close. Sonny didn't respond, completely in shock. He was utterly lost, putting his head in his hands.
"Please tell me this is a nightmare." Sonny muttered. Corso looked at him with compassion.
"I wish I could… I never saw you like this. We have to stop him and get your family back safe. We will do it, but you cant get close to him. He will kill you if given the chance, you heard him yourself" Corso said. Sonny nodded. But as Corso saw, he was scared. "I have to go Corso.I got no other choice. If I dont, he will kill them all, and it will be on me. I..I cant go through it one more time" He said, looking very defeated. Corso wouldn't allow it.
"Yes you do Sonny, you got a choice. Let me handle this. I promised you I would help you whatever it takes and I'll do it right now. Stay here, if need be, use the sleeping device if you need to.I need to know you are safe while I do this" He said. Sonny let go of him.
"Corso, you don't understand. I have to go. This is not about them, or my family, its about what he thinks I owe his family, because of what his father told him I did, it doesnt matter if it was all a lie, to this kid, its real. Maybe one life in exchange for severals is the best way here" He tried. Corso stopped him.
"You're not going to do this Sonny, it's too dangerous. I'll go. Your life matters as much as the others, we need you. all of us." He said. Sonny nodded.
"You're right. I can't do this." He managed. Corso nodded.
"I'll save them. They're my family too, it will be easier if I know you are at a safe distance from it all" He smiled. Sonny nodded, still struggling to relax. Corso understood what he needed to do. Gently, he led Sonny over to the bed they shared. "Lay down Sonny, let's ease some of your tension, first." Corso suggested mildly. Sonny nodded, and laid down. Corso smiled as he massaged the strained muscles, before Sonny sat up and he gave Sonny some herbal tea he brewed to help him sleep before he got to work. As soon as Sonny got drousy from the tea, he laid down on the bed and Corso carefully tucked him in. Sonny needed his rest, and he needed to get to work. With Hawk And Artie's help, he would find this bastard and get their family home safe. As he left the cabin to prepare for the rescue, he hung a note on the door, warning anyone not to disturb Sonny.
The plan for the rescue came together fast. Corso talked with Solaris, and Aaraya and Hawk worked with the Pirates to get all the data. Corso would work with Solaris, to free Callie, D'Jok, Mei and Iris. Artie and Bennett would stay behind on Stellar Unix with Sonny, who would work with Aaraya and the Paladins on gathering intel on Jar'Eel. They all tried to avoid detection. Corso managed to put the tracker on to his own transmitter. Soon, he had a team of Paladins and Pirates, prepared to go to Genesis. Sonny and Corso had discussed the possibility that Sonny and Callie's home was supervised, so it probably wasn't safe. The same went for Shiloh Security. There was only one location left; Mei and D'Jok's home. They carefully sent a team to check, one that was already on Akillian. Aaraya could sense Sonny feeling uneasy with the operation, but his back was against the wall. Corso had talked him into staying behind, where he would be safe. It was hard to do, but Sonny had agreed to listen to this advice. To Aaraya, it was evident there was a lot of love between the two pirates, Corso desperately wanted to protect Sonny from a situation that could get him killed. As Corso and his team got ready, he looked at Sonny.
"I'll let you know as soon they're safe Sonny. Please, try not to worry. We stand a better chance at getting this done than you going in. To keep yourself busy, Work with Aaraya, She can help you with the information you need on her son. I don't want you anywhere near Jar' Eel. His hate towards you is intense, this could be the one way you end up sharing fate with his father. I am not going to let that happen, especially not now" He said, hands on Sonny's shoulders. Sonny nodded, as he returned the hug.
"Stay safe Corso, and bring them all back." He said silently. Corso nodded with a smile.
"I promise Sonny. Everything will be fine." He said. Sonny nodded before the team entered the portal to Genesis. As soon as it closed, Sonny looked at his remaining people. He wasn't sure what to say to them. Bennett nodded reassuringly to him, he knew how this felt for him, and he was there should he need him.
Corso's team, together with Coran, Zarind and Solaris carefully exited the portal in D'Jok's play room. A picture on the wall caught Corso's eye. Sonny and Maya in deep conversation. There were also pictures of Sonny with Mei, and D'Jok, the day D'Jok proposed to her. Then, there was the picture of Sonny, with baby Iris on the day she was born. He looked so calm and peaceful, holding the newborn baby, completely oblivious to the proud parents immortalizing the moment. Sonny had been robbed of being there with his own son for these moments. His son and future daughter in law did so much to make up for what he had lost, by giving it to him through his grandchild. They had such loving hearts and understanding the soreness of his situation. Iris was a blessing to Sonny in more ways than one. She helped him heal, on levels no one else could. Corso snapped out of it, as Otis, Kate and Stevens looked at him. Stevens pulled up a tracker. Corso nodded. The signal wasn't in this house. He looked at Coran.
"Where should we look?" Corso asked the paladin. Solaris was levitating, using her powers to track them.
"I connected mentally with Mei. She managed to see things when they were taken. Coran, can you help me? We don't have locator beacons here, so we only have my vision to go on." She said. Coran nodded. Minutes later, the Pirates could see a clear image of an office building they knew all too well.
"Technoid's main office building, of course. That place is familiar" Corso muttered. Solaris grinned. "I have the data from Sub Level 12 still in my memory log. This map will help us with the rest of the floors as well." She said. The next few hours, they went through each level, checking the heat signatures. Corso sighed.
"The building has fifty-four stories, let's get to it." He said. That moment, Hawk checked in with the data he and Artie found. Artie looked over the hologram.
"Wait, I found them and… We've been there once." He said, sounding insecure. Corso realized where Artie meant.
"The reservoirs again?" Corso growled. Artie nodded. "Bubbles in waterfilled tanks again, too?" Corso asked. Artie shook his head.
"No, it's further into the reservoir than where Sonny nearly drowned. A big empty tank with thick steel walls. Your transmitter won't work in there." Artie said. Corso smiled.
"I upgraded it so it won't be a problem. Sonny made sure all transmitters were overhauled to make sure such things would not happen again after that incident. It scared him more than he ever let on. I know, I heard his nightmares in the weeks that followed. He is tough and that got him through, that and the fact he had to learn how to become a teenage father. His son really made him put in the effort." Corso said. Artie grinned.
"Aaraya is informing Sonny on Jar'Eel and The Bleylocks. I hope he wasn't too scared by all this. Sonny outsmarted his father, and he has the brains to outsmart the son too" Artie concluded. Corso nodded.
"If you got any plans for how we can enter the reservoirs undetected, now would be a good time to share." Corso said. Artie smiled as he started the transfer.
Jar'Eel checked the time. No response from The Pirates yet. They were trying to come up with a plan for sure. That wouldn't work with him. As soon as they reached Sonny's family, they would be dead. He had the information from Sonnys medical journal, he would be the first to sccumb to the gas, due to his allergies. Jar'Eel chuckled as he prepared the next step in his plan. Mole or not. The rat in The Flux Society would also pay a price. he was next on the list.
Sonny read through the information that Aaraya had presented him with. Jar'Eel and D'Jok were born just five months apart… This made him feel creeped put. It was as if Bleylock had still stalked him, even after he married Helena and parted with him. And here he was, with the woman that had to do the dirty deed of complying with Bleylocks familys demands of bearing an heir. To think of what she had to endure...it made him shudder. He knew what Bleylock was capable of, and so did she. As if she sensed what was going on in his mind, Aaraya looked at him.
"Everything will be fine Sonny. I've seen into the future. Kind of like Maya does. They will be safe and sound. Try to relax. You are way too tense. Trust Corso, he is the right man for this job. You will be with them both soon, happy and safe" She said. Sonny smiled for a second.
"Maya's visions are growing stronger by the day. I learned a lot about D'jok's upbringing from talking with her. I really missedn out, but in hindsight, I am very happy she took him in and raised him to become the one he is" He confessed. Aaraya smiled.
"You were there for him when he needed you, as a father. that's what matters." She chuckled. Sonny nodded.
"True,I see myself in him at the same age, more than I want to sometimes admit. It is humbling, and giving me a view of my own progression as a human being and a father. I see it as a way to stay balanced" He said. Aaraya nodded. Then, she had an idea.
"I can show you the vision I had, so you can prepare yourself for what is coming in the next hours" She said. Sonny looked at her.
"He's your son Aaraya. I wish I could tell you he would be alright, but I can't. He is deeply influenced by The Bleylocks,I can only promise to do my best to be fair with him in the trial" He said. Aaraya looked at him.
"Just because he is my son,It doesnt mean I will forgive him for what he's doing to you and others right now. Same for Bleylock being my husband. Its is not all that easy, But I will find a way to forgive and move forwards. What you need to do, is stop beating yourself up over something you never could change. You tried Sonny, but he was beyond help. I am glad he tried to break free, but with his family, he stood little to no hope of success, I feel sorry for him. You being in his life, was probably the closest he ever came to true love and happiness for himself. You influence the people you meet in amazing ways Sonny, you might not see it yourself, but others do, that is why they want to protect you, and see you happy. Like Corso does" She said, looking away. Sonny nodded.
"I'm sorry you had to go through that Aaraya. I know what that was like to be with him like that.I can completely sympathize with your situation. And in all honesty, I also feel sorry for him" He said. Aaraya nodded.
"Now, what was this vision you were talking about?" He asked to change the subject. Aaraya smile as she put her hand on Sonny's forehead. He gasped. The visions he saw, this would end in more deaths. He had to do something to stop this from happening. As Aaraya took her hand of his forehead, Sonny was breathing heavily.
"I have to go Aaraya, I'm taking Bennett with me, or this will end in disaster if I dont act, now" He said. Aaraya nodded.
"I'm coming with too Sonny. I may be able to stop my son.I got some gifts that may come in handy" She said. Sonny nodded. He was about to head to his ship, when Aaraya stopped him.
"He'll probably try to gas you. I know you have severe allergies to some of the content in the gas he will use. You would die unless treated fast.I've got something to stop it. It will make you permanently immune to that gas." She said. Sonny thought it over for a second. Then, slowly, a grin formed on his face.
"Let's do it." He said. Aaraya smiled as she took a syringe from a box.
"There, this should make things easier." She said as she injected the content into his relaxed right arm. Sonny closed his eyes until he felt back to normal. It was a good feeling. He called Bennett, Davison and Zoltar to the command center. Sonny informed them of his decision. He and his companions would be the back up team, ready to pick up the fight. Sonny would rather get himself killed then letting anything happen to those he loved.
I hope you're ready for the next explosive chapter. I'm trying my best to keep different stories going, so that you all got something new to read through this crisis.
Thank you Paranoidgirl, for your Beta work.
This story is starting to near its closing. There aren't many chapters left, but there will be a sequel.
