Bennett checked the coordinates. This was the place where Noomi and Kimberly were buried. As they set a steady course, Sonny informed Callie about his talk with Corso, so they were all being careful around him for now. Corso himself withdrew to the silent room, to attempt to work through his thoughts about it. He needed to prepare himself.
They approached the area carefully. A cargo ship had met up with The Black Manta on the way and delivered the coffins Sonny had ordered. Bennett looked at Sonny as they approached. Sonny was on top of the platform, looking out the window from up high.
"We're almost there Sonny. Do you need me and Artie on this?" He asked as Sonny lowered the platform. Sonny nodded. Corso would need all the support he could get, as this would be hard on him. Sonny then went to Corso, who tried very hard to relax. Sonny coughed gently, alerting him to his presence.
"Are we there yet?" Corso asked. Sonny nodded. He placed a hand on Corso's shoulder, making him smile slightly. He wasn't alone in this. Callie came over too, and placed her hand on top of Sonny's. Corso smiled at both of them.
"Thank you, both of you." He said, voice rusty with emotion. Both Sonny and Callie smiled as they placed a hand on his back, and led him to the loading dock of The Black Manta.
It felt so strange to see it again. Last time, the area was green and peaceful. Now, it was a barren space rock. Corso breathed into his mask. Sonny took a shovel as they got ready to exit the ship, as did D'Jok, Bennett and Artie. Stevens and other Pirates silently brought the coffins, following behind them. Corso didn't say a word. He felt emotionally overloaded the entire time. He sighed as he looked at the group. Bennett used his meter to check the ground. Callie stood by him as they started to dig. She noticed he was cold to the touch. After everything finished, and the bodies were retrieved, they went to Akilian for the ceremony. After that, Sonny had stopped by Helena's grave along with D'Jok, Mei and Iris for a visit too. Corso took his time, to bid a proper farewell to Noomi and Kimberly before they returned to Genesis. Corso looked like he had a big and heavy weight lifted off his shoulders when it was over. Callie reported in to the channel that she wanted Sonny and Corso in the studio on Genesis for an interview. Corso sighed when he heard that, but there was no way around it. After they returned,The interview was conducted swiftly, and then, Corso prepared for moving in with his future spouses. Sonny stopped him before he was able to head to his apartment.
"Let's start solving this mess with the Chissian Army first Corso. If Lieutenant Marshall was involved in your scapegoating, he would benefit from you being unable to testify against him. Until we know where they went, you don't go anywhere alone." He said. Corso smiled at that.
"Getting over protective Sonny? That's my job." Corso chuckled. Sonny smiled.
"I'm worried that they'll get you. If they are as sneaky as you claim, they will attack now, while they see you alone. And I wont make it that easy for them" He said. Corso shook his head.
"The only reason the Chissian army is after me is because I'm becoming a threat. And I intend to find out why that is. And I need to lure them out with bait. And that bait is me.I just got to figure out how to make them come out and play" He said. Sonny took Corso's hand.
"You're not going alone. I have the feeling your apartment is under surveillance and I'm not risking your safety. Take 4 men with you to retrieve your things. then, you come straight here, got it?" Sonny said, loosening his grip. Corso nodded and placed his hands on Sonny's shoulders.
"Fine Sonny. I won't go alone. I will bring four people with me, is that making you feel better?" He asked with a smile. Sonny released his grip and headed to the coffee maker. Sonny took his mug and turned his back as he thought over what Corso just said. His husband to be was right,They needed a plan to smoke them out, and he was not going to put Corso out as bait. But then again,Corso had experience with them, he didnt, what Corso would suggest was more likely to work this time than his idea. Sonny smiled as he turned around and faced Corso who sat down at the kitchen table. Corso had taken a sip of his coffee.
"Lets plan this one together." He said. Corso nodded with a smile. Callie entered the room, still in her bathrobe, reaching for a mug of Coffee. Corso suddenly had an idea.
"Callie, remember you said that you and I need to go on a date before we get married?" He asked. Callie nodded.
"You need my help with luring in the Chissian military? And a date could be a good thing for that" She asked. Corso nodded.
"Alright, here's the plan."
At a hidden apartment at sub level seven, Lieutenant Marshall of the Chissian Army, was starting to feel very worried. He had tried calling Jar'Eel but got no response. He tried contacting Miller but also no response. They promised he could finally deal with Takashi. He knew the truth about his squad. One of the best special forces units they ever had. Corso didn't know about the rigged explosives, but he did know other vital placings. If his friend Sonny investgated it, and used computer models, he could prove that Corso was innocent, that they needed to look for another culprit. The planet blowing up had concealed a lot of tracks, but there was still lists in place of whom was still alive after the explosion, that had to be destroyed and so did any chances of Corso bearing witness to this act, now or in the future. His entire career depended on getting rid of Corso Takashi. He had acted on orders from General Bleylock to cover up the first attempts with an unstable Flux mix that Professor Monteague put together. Marshall was paid well for this plan. At first, he figured everyone was dead. But then the Pirates managed to find a survivor. A survivor that could reveal everything. That survivor was Corso. The first time Marshall saw him as a Pirate, he barely recognized him. He tried to get him with a bounty but that didn't work. Corso was becoming a real problem. If he talked, it was game over for him. That couldn't happen. Marshall ordered his Corporal into his office.
"Keep an eye on Corso's place. We need him alive if he's going to pay for his crimes."
Corso had finally started to relax during this date. And he started to learn a lot about Callie, her likes and dislikes. The fact that she agreed to be taken to a firing range for shooting practice, took him by surprise. And she was a pretty great shot.
"Remind me never to piss you off. Those shots could kill someone" Corso said, sounding quite impressed. Callie playfully blew some smoke of her gun.
"I don't want to look too bad standing next to you two." She smiled. Corso laughed.
"You never would have. Even Sonny was not the best shot at first. You actually did better than him, but dont tell him I said that. I will never hear the end of it" He said. Callie chuckled.
"I haven't had this much fun in a while." She said. Corso grinned.
"I hope you're ready for our next stop. More fun to come, and another side to me for you to get to know" He said.
Callie was amazed. Corso had taken her to a herb garden. She had no idea Corso was a skilled herbalist. In no time, he made a small vial of perfume.
"I made this especially for you. Sweet but with a kick to it." Corso said, as he turned the vial into a necklace. Callie kissed Corso. This would take some time to get used to. They spent their time talking about herbs and what you could do with them. From perfumes and food to healing both physically and mentally. Callie hadn't expected this, but she started to see another side to Corso, a happier side. And a side that could cook really well. After that, Callie held his hand and leaned against his chest.
"How long have you felt love for Sonny? When did it start?" She asked. Corso smiled as he recalled it.
"It happened very early on.I would say a few months after I first met him. I became his instructor almost the moment he decided to join us. Back then, he was a lot weaker than he is now. He was nothing like the man he is now, I really needed to toughen him up. Back then he was just another pirate, a recruit in training, but he had something about him. Even back then I was… attracted to him, in more than one way. We've been close ever since. I never acted on it then,I was afraid he didnt feel the same way, that I would loose my friendship with him, even loose him, until recently. Sonny was popular among the other pirates, women and men. There was plenty of them giving him long looks. He just never appeared interested. I chose to just friendzone it, as We were both scared we would loose our friendship if it wasnt what we hoped for. Lucky for us, it surpassed what we hoped for, several times over. If anyone asked me now, I know I could never let him go, not after this." Corso confessed. Callie looked at him.
"Did he ever give you any hint that he knew how you felt back then?" She asked. Corso shook his head.
"I don't think he ever noticed how I would look him over, if he did, maybe he was as scared as me to talk about it. And the fact that he had recently lost his wife made me apprehensive to even try. I didn't want to hurt him and lose what we had. And back then, he still struggled with the loss he had suffered. The best I could do, was to be there for him when he needed someone. Usually at night, when he woke up screaming and sweating after another night terror" He said. Callie looked thoughtful.
"Sonny knew about the rumors about you two. He felt like he led you on, by not telling you how he felt. Was that ever the case, or just in his mind?" She asked. Corso shook his head.
"Not really an issue. I sensed he wanted to say something, but held back. I was a damn coward, never coming clean, If I had, there is no telling where Sonny and I would have been when we first met you, I could have made him my partner already if I had known. He really was worth the wait" He said. Callie smiled.
"You got what you wanted eventually. Did he kiss you when he found out how you felt?I am curious as to whom initiated it" She asked. Corso smiled.
"He did. After I had to fezz up after a slip of tongue. Best kiss I ever had. And now we're here." He said.
"No complaints?" Callie asked.
"Never. This was everything I hoped for and dont tell him, but I could have gone all the way at that very moment, he was that good and more" Corso said. Callie kissed him on the lips. Corso calmly kissed her back, she could feel a spark of passion for her too.
"We have the rest of our lives together will have plenty of time to explore this. I promise not to be jealous. If you promise me, to always be honest about your feelings towards him and me. And I am curious to see Sonny get seduced, not always being the one initiating the seduction" She said with a smile. Corso agreed.
"He needs both of on me to always be there. And I will show you just how easy it is to win him over through seduction. " He said thoughtfully. Callie smiled.
"I never even thought to ask, but when is his birthday?" She asked. Corso smiled.
"In about three months. He will try to downplay it though, he always does. Sonny doesnt like to be reminded that he is growing older. " He said. Callie had a devious smile on her face.
"Let's make it a big surprise for family will celebrate all birthdays. What sort of cake does he like?" She said. Corso grinned.
"Strawberry Shortcake like his mom used to make. I'll see if I can find the recipie somewhere on board the ship. We have one of the female pirates bake it every year, paying close attention to the details. Sonny will tell us if something is a miss. He likes the sweet things in life. Cake being one of those" Corso told her. Callie smiled.
"Sounds like we got some planning to do behind his back" She mused. Corso agreed.
"Trying to keep this a secret from him won't be easy. We need to keep him busy. Any change in our behaviour, even the slightest, he will dont want the Blackbones special cross examination at the dinner table. He is bossy that way, likes to be on top of things, and he usually gets it his way too" He said. Callie smiled.
"Let me take care of that. This is the perfect opportunity for father and son to spend some time together. He needs some father and son time too, despite trying to avoid it. " She said. Corso chuckled.
"I leave that up to you. dont push him too hard, that alone will make him suspicious" He said, filling two glasses fine champagne as they prepared to eat the content of the picnic basket they brought.
At Shiloh Security, Sonny was catching up with the paperwork on his desk. He didn't have time for this…
A few hours later, after organizing all the paperwork for the upcoming trials and everything was ready and tripplechecked, Sonny called Duke Maddox.
"Everything's ready, Your Excellency. We just need a date for the trial. And the location of the Chissian Army on Genesis. They want to get rid of Corso because he knows something they want to cover up. We need to keep him safe, even if that makes him miserable. The sooner we can smoke them out, the better" Sonny stated. Duke Maddox grinned.
"He sounds exhausting to deal with. How do you even manage?" He chuckled. Sonny smiled.
"I've known him for long enough to know what works to calm him down." He admitted. Duke Maddox nodded as he got more serious.
"Jar'Eel is still locked up. Aaraya managed to get to him. A strong woman that one. His convictions about his father are wavering. He wants to read his father's journals again, but he also wants to know your side of the Story. Any chance you can give your side of things to the kid?" He said. Sonny rubbed his chin.
"Tell him to mark the parts in the journals he wants to talk about, so I can read up before we meet.I will let him know my side, then he can decide for himself whom to believe" Sonny said. Duke Maddox agreed.
"I'm already on it. Such terrible things he's written. Bleylock truly was a man whom had lost it" He sighed. Sonny nodded.
"I remember still having hope for him, once. He just chose to let it all go, after I left." He said. Duke Maddox looked at him.
"You still cared for him, until the end." He said. Sonny nodded.
"I just hoped I could reach him. Not that it matters but I never wanted him to die. It would have been better for him in jail in my opinion" He admitted. Duke Maddox nodded.
"Something tells me I don't know the entire story yet. There was more going on between him and you than you are telling me" He said, studying Sonny. Sonny nodded.
"Maybe, but its not important for the trial that is up and coming" He said. Duke Maddox nodded.
"Another thing; the bounty for Miller is still unclaimed. You should have it. You are the one that took him down. That's about fifteen million Standard Credits." He said. Sonny smiled.
"Enough for my soon-to-be family." He smiled.
"I'll send out patrols to track the Chissian Army. They can't stay hidden for long." Duke Maddox said. Sonny smiled.
"I can prove what happened on Ascaron with Lieutenant Marshall and the schemes he was up to. I suspect this is why Corso is a threat to him, he can provide data that is dammning to his claims of events. Bleylock was also involved. And I'm suspecting a third party. But as of now,I have no idea who it may be" Sonny said. Duke Maddox nodded.
"Correct. Turns out, you know the third person in question. It is shocking information to come across, Let me send you the information on that. This mess in Technoid may be cleared, but not the ties Bleylock had outside to dubious individuals" He said and sent the file. As soon as Sonny saw the file, he realized they had to act quickly. He agreed to read through the files and come over to Duke Maddox' office.
Corso and Callie finished their date and Corso started to get what Sonny meant when he said Callie was something else. He put the picnic basket in the trunk of the car as they got ready to drive home. Sonny would be home in a few hours too. Callie kissed him on the lips again.
"Thank you, Corso. I really enjoyed myself. I know you so much better now." She said. Corso kissed her back, touching her face lightly.
"No, thank you Callie. I've had a good time. I am so looking forwards to the future now" He said. Callie smiled.
Corso shook his head as they entered the car. This life would be many things, but never boring.
Sonny was driving towards Technoid's office when he noticed he was being tailed by an unmarked van. Had to be the Chissian military. Why were they after him? He sped up to see if it was a coincidence, but they kept close. He was being tailed for sure. Sonny stepped on the gas and changed lanes. He lost them for a few minutes, but they soon were on his tail again, also picking up speed. He needed to go to Technoid's building fast. That area was surveillanced by cameras. If he could get in view of them, he would be in the clear. They were onto him, however, and forced him out of the main areas of Genesis, to a more secluded spot. A laser was fired and Sonny's car rocked violently as it was hit in the engine, causing it to catch fire. Sonny released his seat belt and engaged the autopilot as he aimed at a taxi gate and activated a distress signal. As soon as he was close enough to an exit point, Sonny made a leap out of the car and rolled over the road. The military unit was close by.
"Seize him!" Someone called out. Lieutenant Marshall. Sonny ran into a nearby alleyway, trying to hide. He could hear several people behind him. His transmitter gave a signal. Sonny answered. Corso looked worried, and as he could see over Sonny's shoulder, and he realized what was going on. Sonny was running for cover, and he needed help.
"Get to cover Sonny, I'll be there shortly." He said. Sonny nodded before he ended the transmission. He just kept going, he wasnt familiar with this area. But at this point, the more distance he had to his pursuers, the better. He didn't see the net that shot up in front of him until it was too late, and he was snared in by two soldiers whom slammed him down on the ground. Sonny tried to get out to no avail. He could see a pair of military boots stop in front of him.
"You're an elusive man Blackbones, this time, you will come with us. If we cant find Corso, he will most certainly be looking for you. The perfect bait to trap a deserter" The man said. Sonny looked at him.
"Don't think using me as bait will do you any good. Corso's smart enough to get me out. You wont see him come. But he will know where you are" He said, still wrestling with the two soldiers pinning him down. Lieutenant Marshall grinned.
"That's not going to stop me. As for Corso, that is what I am counting on him to do, come looking for you." He said. Sonny glared at him.
"You really think he'll fall for this trick? You underestimate him." He said. Lieutenant Marshall came closer.
"You overestimate him when it comes to you Sonny.I know how chissians react, Corsos reactions when it comes to you tells me all I need to know. Sedate him." The lieutenant ordered his men. Sonny tried to fight on, but he felt a syringe was injected in his neck. Sonny gasped as he passed out, that wicked grin of Marshall being the last thing he saw.
This wasn't planned, but Lieutenant Marshall is deeply involved.
Will Corso save the day? Or is Sonny in deep trouble this time?
Thank you Paranoidgirl, for using time in this quarantine to beta my work. I so appreciate you.
