You Went Where?
Alex woke up the following morning to throbbing in her leg, the side of the bed next to her empty. She slowly sat up, regretting it immediately when a sharp pain erupted in her head. Lowering herself back down, she reached across the bed, taking a vial off the bedside table. She opened the lid, drinking the green liquid until it was empty. Feeling the pain subside, she got herself out of bed, taking a change of clothes and a towel into the bathroom for a shower.
After refreshing herself, Alex walked out of the bathroom in a set of clean clothes, much more awake then before. She went and sat down on her bed, about to call Kaiden on her ComTCD, when suddenly the door opened, and in walked Kaiden himself.
"Hey!" He greeted, walking over to Alex, pulling her in a tight hug.
"Hey yourself," She replied, resting her head on his firm shoulder. "Where did you go this morning?"
"I called Jordan, Dix, and Bear telling them we needed to urgently go back to Akarnae yesterday for something for SAS. They were a bit worried when we didn't come back after I 'stole you to go and make out in the garden'."
"Thank you Kaiden. I appreciate it."
"I don't like lying to your friends Alex. I told them you got caught in a trap in SAS. Why don't you just tell them the truth about where you go?" He asked.
"Because they'll just ask questions, and I don't think I can handle that. I'll tell them when I'm ready, but I need some time."
He let out a sigh, understanding the pressure on Alex.
"I am so proud of you Alex," He said, putting his hands on her shoulders, lifting her lips to his. "Everyone is proud of you."
She nodded her head, turning around, picking up her phone from the table, slipping it into the pocket of her jumper.
"Let's go the arena. I feel like doing some sparring." Alex stated, walking towards the door.
"Woah, woah, woah. What do you think you're doing? You're supposed to take it easy on your leg." Kaiden said, moving in front of the door.
"Oh, yeah, right. I forgot about that. I guess the pain killers work."
"Yeah, the most you're doing today is walking to the food court."
"Well why don't we go get breakfast then?" Alex asked, and as if on cue, her stomach rumbled.
"Sounds like a plan." Kaiden replied, laughing. Opening the door, he followed Alex out.
After pancakes and scrambled eggs, the duo headed down to the lake, taking a seat against their favourite tree. Legs spread out in front of them, they sat watching the sun creep up in the sky, reflecting onto the crystal lake.
With Alex's head resting on Kaiden's shoulder, they sat for hours together, sharing few words.
Eventually, though only midday, Alex became drowsy from her meds taken earlier in the morning. They headed back towards the building, Alex leaning more and more onto Kaiden by the minute. They walked through the doors, down the hallway and to Alex's bedroom. Much like the previous night, they opened the door and Alex collapsed onto the bed. Taking off her shoes this time, she got into her bed, pulling the covers up before falling asleep…
Alex woke up only a few hours later, stretching, hearing a satisfying crack in her back. She looked across to see Kaiden lying on Dix's bed reading a book, a crease between his eyebrows as he focused. As she sat up, Kaiden noticed her, smiling when he saw her sleepy face.
"And Sleeping Beauty finally wakes up." He said, smiling at her. "About time."
"Sorry." she replied, "How long was I asleep for?"
"About two hours, but it's ok, you needed it."
Alex nodded in response, looking over at her ComTCD. There was one missed call from Dix, from around an hour ago.
"Dix called me." She stated.
"Yeah, I decided you needed the sleep. You can call them back now if you want?"
"Ok, I might do that. I can't believe I slept through the call!"
"You're a heavy sleeper, it's not that surprising." Kaiden replied, laughing slightly.
"Whatever."
Alex took her ComTCD off her bedside table, finding Dix's contact and turning on the holographic setting and calling her. She waited a few seconds before being greeted by her three friends.
"Alex!" They called, "How are you?" Dix asked.
"Yeah, I'm alright, how about you?" She replied.
"Yeah fine, but is your leg ok?" She questioned. Alex hesitated before replying, looking over at Kaiden, before glancing at Dix, Jordan and Bear who were watching expectantly.
"Look, guys, I haven't been exactly honest with you. Can you just hear me out here and let me explain then you can ask the questions?"
Nobody responded, so Alex took this as her chance to start talking.
"So Kaiden and I didn't go and make out in the garden after dessert. Instead I came back here, and Kaiden followed. I took that last piece of tart with me, because I was going to give it to Aven. And this wasn't the first time I'd visited him."
"You went where?!" Jordan shouted, narrowing his eyes as Dix drew in a breath. But Alex continued as if there were no interruptions.
"You've got to understand, I can't let him be alone all the time. He was once a good person, but I made him change to who he is now. So, I went to go give it to him. But he wasn't there. There was this person that I had never seen before called Yaele Fryxon. He had been locked in these since I visited when I went back in the past. He tried to make me get him out, but I wouldn't help, so as I escaped, he through a knife at me, and that's how I injured my leg."
There was silence from the trio, somebody spoke a word for a minute. Until Dix finally said;
"I can't believe you didn't tell us!"
"I'm sorry, but I didn't know how you would react. Now I know I made the wrong choice, and I won't, no…I can't lie to you guys anymore."
"Good choice. Alright I can hear Gammy calling us for apple pie. We'll see you soon!" Jordan said, as both he and Bear left.
About to hang up, Dix said: "Thanks for telling us Alex. We don't want you to have to deal with stuff alone. Feel free to tell us anything."
"Thanks Dix, and I've got Kaiden to help me get through stuff. I'll be fine."
"Ok, we'll talk again soon!" Dix said, about to leave
"See you." Alex replied, hanging up. She released a long breath, walking over to Kaiden.
"I'm glad I got that over and done with." She sighed, sitting beside Kaiden on her roommate's bed.
"Me too." He responded. "So, what about that make out session that we never got to follow up?"
Alex laughed, before meeting his lips with her own.
