Keep Fighting ~ Chapter 3
What are you doing here?
After spending the next fifteen minutes sharing little words and multiple kisses, Kaiden and Alex decided that they could have an early dinner because they missed out on lunch. Heading to the food court, they wandered down the path, Kaiden's arm wrapped around his girlfriends shoulder, looking like the perfect couple. Once they were inside, they noticed the almost empty food court, with very few students staying over the Kaldoras break. They grabbed a table for themselves, facing each other and discussing food options. Kaiden chose a spaghetti bolognese and Alex decided on a beef burger with chips. Immediately their food arrived, and they began to eat, talking about the academy and Kaiden's apprenticeship. Eventually, after Alex had finished her burger and Kaiden was picking at her chips, the latter already finished his meal, they decided to go to the Rec Room for a movie and popcorn. They chose a movie and sat down on the lounge by the fire watching the screen. With the bowl of popcorn in her the lap, Alex leant against Kaiden, enjoying the comfy position.
"Kaiden?" She said, looking up at him.
"Mmm." He mumbled in return.
"What do you want to do when you finish here at Akarnae? As a job, I mean."
He pondered for a minute, before turning his gaze from the movie to Alex, who was looking up at him expectantly.
"Well, once I finish my apprenticeship, I really want to start training to be a Sword. Jeera and Nisha are part of it, so I think that I owe it to my parents to follow in my family's footsteps. And honestly, I don't think there would be anything I would like more than to protect my country with my family and friends."
Alex nodded, deep in thought about what her future could be.
"What do you want to do when you finish here?" Kaiden asked.
"Honestly, it was only a couple of weeks ago that I even thought about having a future, so I guess I haven't given it much thought. But I think I want to do something practical like a Sword. I think I kind of owe it to the world to protect them after everything that I've done."
Kaiden turned to her, looking her straight in the eye.
"Nothing that Aven did was your fault. You don't owe anything to anyone. He made his decisions, and you're not to blame for them."
"I know, but I still made him feel like that. So, in the end, I caused all this damage. The most I can do is pay it back."
"But you have!" Kaiden argued. "You saved everyone from Aven, and now everyone has a life to live!"
"I know but still." Alex replied. Kaiden sighed, turning to continue watching the movie. Alex was tense in Kaiden's arms, and abruptly stood up, putting the popcorn on the lounge.
"Look, I'm really tired. I'm just going to go to bed." And with this Alex stormed out of the Rec Room, leaving Kaiden to turn off the movie, and follow after her. He didn't know whether to comfort her or give her space, but in the end, he decided on the former. He walked down the hallway, quieter than a mouse. Her dormitory door was closed, so he had no hope of getting in. As if reading his thoughts, Soraya appeared in a flash of shadows and light. Kaiden didn't often see much of the Shadow wolf, because she was usually exploring unless called by her master. Her muzzle rested on his hand and in an instant, they appeared inside Alex and Dix's bedroom. Alex lay on her bed, sobbing into her pillow. Soraya disappeared, leaving the duo together. Kaiden moved over towards Alex's bed. She rolled over to face the wall, trying to ignore him. Instead her boyfriend lay beside her, wrapping his arms tightly around her. He pulled her close, whispering easing words into her ear. She was tense at first, refusing to be comforted, but eventually she melted into his embrace, letting the tears flow freely. They stayed in that position until long into the night, and Alex knew that nobody how many times they fought or argued, Kaiden will always be there for her…
Alex woke up later in the morning with a clearer head, and looked around, disappointed to see Kaiden gone, again. She realised that Kaiden had never really stayed the whole night in her bed. He may not have ever slept either. Possibly out of respect for her or her parents, but she was still curious to why he did it. Shrugging it off, she changed into clean clothes and brushed her teeth before heading out the door towards the apprentice's dorms. She knocked on his door, and it was opened by a slightly tired but otherwise happy version of Kaiden. She walked in, looking to his bed and desk chair to see her four closest friends sitting there.
"What are you doing here?" She shouted, launching herself into her Dix's arms.
"Hey Alex!" She replied, with just as much enthusiasm. After removing their arms from around each other, Alex moved around the room to Jordan, Bear, and Declan, receiving a bone crushing hug from the latter.
"How are you guys?" She asked, going over to stand beside Kaiden, who was leaning casually against the door.
"I should be asking you that question." Jordan answered, raising his eyebrows. Obviously, Kaiden had told them about what had happened the night before.
"We have given him our blessing so he can protect you when we can't." Jordan continued, "So don't brush him off. We are trying to help you and keep you safe, even though we know you're capable of protecting yourself."
"I know." Alex sighed, looking at her feet. "I'm sorry, I've just been under a bit of stress lately."
"That's why you have us!" Dix jumped in, saving Jordan from starting one of his emotional speeches again. "And there is one handy way to release some stress that includes you and your boyfriend." She winked, leaving Alex gagging.
"Eww, stop." She said, whilst everyone else laughed. "How about some breakfast?"
"Sounds good to me…I'm starving!" Jordan responded, jumping off the bed.
"Tell me something I don't know." Dix muttered under her breath. They laughed and the girls, arm in arm, walked out the door.
Ok, so sorry about not updating on Wednesday, but I feel as though Saturdays or Sundays are more convenient, so I've decided to change. Anyway, this chapter was a bit interesting, few Kailex moments and a bit of trouble, but they were all ok in the end. Thanks again to all the reads and reviews, it is really appreciated!
