Keep Fighting – Chapter 4
How are you really feeling?
Whilst enjoying a filling breakfast, the six of them talked about holidays and the school year. Alex, Dix, Jordan and Bear were in there last year before their apprenticeships, if they got one. All four of them were striving to do their best during classes to open up opportunities for their future. Even during the holidays, Bear had been experimenting and studying different chemicals to try get an apprenticeship in chemistry. Dix hasn't been too worried because one day, she would have to take the reign of Medora, and Jordan didn't care much because he'll be by Dix's side. Alex, however, has been training in SAS until Hunter tells her to stop. She put as much effort as possible in P&E, by pushing her Meyarin blood to the limits. And in Combat, she keeps fighting until nobody is left to fight her. At the point she's at now, Alex has never been stronger, but never felt less tired. Even during breakfast, she was thinking about when she can start fighting again after her leg is fixed.
"Alex!" Somebody shouted. She looked up from her porridge, scanning the table. Kaiden was looking at her with a frown on his face.
"Sorry, mind wandered off for a bit there. What were you saying?"
"We were saying, that if you're interested, you might want to stay with us at the Ronnigan's for a bit?" Dix said.
Alex thought about this for a second, before accepting the offer. She hadn't spent that much time with her friends during the holidays, so she decided for the rest of her holidays, she could spend it with the others.
For the rest of breakfast, Alex tried to contribute to the conversations, but she kept getting distracted. Kaiden kept stealing worried glances across at her, knowing that she wasn't paying attention. After everyone finished their meals, they headed out into the cold winter air.
"Alex." Dix called, signalling for her to follow. Alex followed the red headed princess into the hall of the dorms, whilst the others went into the Rec Room. She looked at Dix expectantly, leaning against the wall.
"Alex, I really need you to be honest with me. But how are you really feeling?"
Alex stared at her for a moment, before answering.
"Honestly, I'm fine. Never been better expect for the leg. Why do you ask?"
"You've just been really distant lately, like during breakfast. We're worried about you."
"But you don't need to be." Alex replied, stepping up to Dix, enveloping her in a hug. "I really am fine."
Deep down, Alex knew she was lying, but she would never want to admit it.
"How about we go find the others?" She suggested, linking arms with Dix, entering the Rec room. They sat down, enjoying each other's company, whilst out of the cold weather outside…
Hours later, after spending their morning in the Rec Room, the six students went into the library to find a room to spend some time in. After stepping down the steps from the tower, they came into a room filled with dusty bookshelves, and the librarian peering at them from behind the wooden desk. They climbed down the stone steps until they came to the end. Alex willed a door to open and they stepped through.
Inside, was a picturesque ocean, with a small, wooden cottage and a wrap around veranda. On the porch were chairs and a swing, looking very colourful and welcoming. Waves rolled in calmly from the beach, creating a rhythmic 'whoosh'. The sun was slowly setting in the west, bringing a cooler air into the atmosphere. It was serene and tranquil, the perfect place to think.
"Guys." Alex said, "This is my other home…in Freya."
The others gasped in awe, unable to believe that they were in a different world. Jordan stepped forward, and started walking toward the cottage, when he instantly slammed into a wall.
"Ouch." He said, rubbing his nose. Everyone else reached over to place their hands on the wall, looking at Alex expectantly.
"It's basically a dome." She explained, "It is showing a replica of what is happening at my house right now, without us actually being here. The air and the sounds are part of it. It thought you might want to see what it's like, and I'll show you the real thing another day."
Everyone noticed this time how she said 'house' instead of 'home'. It proved that being in Medora made her realise that there was nothing to miss in Freya, and her real friends and family were in Medora. She has never had a friendship with anyone in Freya, and in Medora she has so many people looking out for her and love her, she can never be lonely. But she thinks that sometimes she needs to keep stuff from her friends and family, otherwise it might damage them as well.
One by one, the six of them sat down in the dome, breathing in the fresh air, listening to the rolling of waves. They sat there for hours, watching until the sun set, when they decided to go back to have dinner.
During and even after dinner, Alex was constantly thinking about Yaele. During the past couple of days, she rarely thought about him. Being too distracted or tired to care. But she was thinking about what he would do if she let him out. And where Aven really was. She wanted to go back and see if he was ok, because he was once a friend, and deep, deep, deep down, Alex did care a bit.
As she got into bed, with Dix on the other side of the room, Alex was wondering what Kaiden would say if she told him that he wanted to go back into the painting. She lay down, switching her lamp off, and turning on her side facing the wall. She missed Kaiden's comforting arms around her every night and felt unprotected and cold without them.
"Dix?" Alex asked.
"Mmmm" Was her reply.
"Tell me about what you have been doing the last couple days." Dix turned to face her from across the room, resting her head on her hand.
"Well, Jordan and I haven't done much, we've kind of just relaxed at the palace and had huge breakfasts every morning. Why do you ask?"
There was no reply, because a few comforting words was all she needed for Alex to fall asleep...
I'm back! Bit late but I couldn't get this chapter done. Anyway, I did in the end. Not much Kailex but hopefully in the next few chapters there will be some more. Thanks again for the reviews, I appreciate it so much. If you have any ideas, I am open to hearing them, but there is no guarantee of them being in the story. I may not update next week, because I am going away, but I will try to do a double update the next week. Anyway, here are the shout outs!
