Keep Fighting – Chapter 6

Where are you going Alex?

Weeks had followed the battle against Aven ended, and Alex still couldn't believe she had done it. She had defeated him. She had won.

But as she arrived on the edge of the trees in front of the Ronnigan's house, she realised how close she was to living a nightmare.

How close she was to losing everyone she loved.

How she did lose everyone she loved.

Her face paled at the memory, and a sick feeling rose in her gut. The thoughts had often haunted her since the battle, and she couldn't shake the feeling of loss after Aven ate Xira's heart. She couldn't shake the feeling of disgust when he ate the heart.

She shook off the memory and pasted a smile on her face as she walked up the cobbled path to the large cottage. She couldn't let her friends or the Ronnigan's worry about her, they already had enough on their hands.

As Alex reached the door, she could hear a rumble of laughter from within the house. She could recognise the voices of Jordan and Dix, who had arrived earlier.

She opened the door to see all the Ronnigan's in the lounge room. Dix and Jordan sat on the lounge together, his arm around her shoulder, whilst Bear was lying on his stomach on the floor. Johnny and Blake occupied the other lounge, whilst Dorothy and Gammy were seated at the bench.

Evie however, rushed over to Alex and jumped into her arms.

"Lexie!" she cried, with only a slight lisp.

"Hey Evie." Alex replied, holding onto her tight.

Everyone greeted her, and she quickly ran upstairs to put her things in Johnny's room, which she and Dix were sharing for the next few days. She was to stay there for the remainder of the Kaldoras holidays. Alex then walked back downstairs, taking a seat beside Gammy.

"What are you all up to?" Alex asked.

"Just talking about good times with dad." Bear answered.

An icy feeling rose up Alex's spine. Of course, they were still grieving the death of William. She'd almost forgotten about it with all that had happened lately. But as she looked around the room, all she saw was smiling faces, and tears shining in Dorothy's eyes.

"Remember the time Dad tripped over Blake who was laying on the floor, and he fell over. He pulled a muscle in his leg and he couldn't go to work that day. He was so embarrassed he wouldn't tell any of his colleagues." Johnny said, and everyone laughed.

It was good to see them in such a good mood as they continued to share stories, but Gammy knew something was up with Alex.

"Alex dear, could you come help me set the table for lunch?"

"Of course." Alex replied, as she followed Gammy to the kitchen.

Alex knew that she wasn't called to come with Gammy just to set the table. So, she was prepared as Gammy told her to take a seat and took Alex's smooth hands in her own wrinkled ones. Peace flooded Alex immediately, and she always wondered why her gift didn't work on Gammy.
"What's going on with you Alex?" Gammy asked.

"What do you mean?" Alex said, playing a bit dumb.

"Something is troubling you and I can tell. I just want to make sure you're okay."

Alex didn't know whether to tell Gammy everything or lie to her and tell her she was fine. She chose the latter, knowing that she couldn't let anyone know she wasn't coping. Because then she would have to tell them about the battle against Aven, and what really happened before she won.

"Really Gammy, I'm fine. I've just been a bit tired lately." Gammy sighed, knowing that Alex wasn't telling the complete truth.

"Very well," she said, "Can you please take this down to the table?" Handing Alex cutlery. She took them through to the next room, where the Ronnigan's were starting to get up and move towards the table. Jordan was pushing past to get a seat as soon as possible, eager to eat food. Dix took a seat next to him, with Bear on her other side.

As Alex took a seat beside Evie, she looked at the food laid out before her. Knowing that the others would question her if she didn't, she dug into some food. She was also glad of the distraction it gave her, giving her a reason not talk. She listened to Blake talk about his job before he suddenly announced something that made Dorothy gasp.

"Jeera and I are moving in together."

Bear dropped his knife, Jordan sat with his fork halfway to his knife, and Evie sat oblivious to what was going on around her.

"What? Where?" Dorothy asked, getting over the shock of the declaration Blake made.

"To a small cottage out in the village not far from Jeera's aunt. We'll start moving next week."

"Oh, congratulations!" Dorothy squealed, running over to give her son a tight hug. "Your dad would be so proud!"

"Thanks mum." He replied. And that's was when Alex realised, not only had she taken a husband from Dorothy, but she had also taken a father, and father-in-law from Blake and Jeera. A sick feeling rose in Alex's gut, and she felt like she could almost throw up. She rose from the chair at the table, heading towards the bathroom.

"Where are you going Alex?" Dix asked. She turned back around, putting on a fake smile saying;

"Just to the bathroom, I'm not feeling too great." And with that she turned around leaving the rest of her dinner untouched. She jogged slightly until she got into Johnny's bedroom, locking the door behind her. Leaning against the door, she sat down on the floor, taking deep breaths, trying to calm her nerves. Taking out her ComTCD, she was about to call Kaiden, knowing that he might be able to help but stopped before pressing his name. He can't know about Alex's complications. He'll only ask questions and then she'll have to tell him what really happened at the battle. Alex knew that she was going to have to deal with these issues on her own.

Sorry that this is late, but honestly my weeks recently have been jammed packed. So, this was actually my first ever chapter that I ever wrote, but then I read A Very Merry Kaldoras and I decided to continue from that. Then I just changed some things in this chapter so it suited my story and here it is! I've been reading the Gallagher girl series recently (Highly recommended) so I kind of need to get back into the Medoran Chronicles mindset. If you want some book suggestions, visit my profile because there is plenty of options there. Anyway, reviews are really appreciated, and I would love constructive criticism because it makes my stories more enjoyable for you guys and myself.

Shoutout!

Kailexforever – Ahaha I kind of love her parents, they really add a different character to the books. And here is your chapter! Taking a bit of a twist now, but you'll get to see plenty of them soon! That's ok, it happens!
