Brick held Butch's face to the side as the rays continued to shoot out of his eyes. He was out of control. Brick seized his arm as he tried to throw a punch. He grunted as he struggled to get out of his brother's grip. The rays finally vanished but Brick kept a hold on his face. Butch turned his eyes to Brick whose expression was as blank as a paper but his grip tightened for a moment before he let go, as if to warn Butch.
Brick held his brother's collar to lift him up from the ground. He pushed him towards the opposite direction of where the commotion was. Butch clenched his teeth but kept walking with Brick behind him.
Somebody passed by Brick; running towards Butch with full speed but Brick grabbed her and pushed her back.
"Get out of my way," she threatened.
"I'll take care of what I'm responsible for, you don't need to do anything,"
"Oh, will you?" she said as she pushed him, "that is the only thing you can't do Brick, take responsibility."
The words were almost out of his mouth but she had turned around and walked away; he then realised that there was nothing he could have said that would prevent any more of the ruckus, so he also decided to go.
Buttercup was in a bad shape, she was unconscious and she had received a lot of damage. Blossom instructed Bubbles to stay in school and she herself would take their sister home. Bubbles wanted to insist on going back with them but she obliged.
Robin accompanied Bubbles throughout the school. The Rowdyruffs didn't come back but there was uproar in the whole school. Bubbles asked everyone to stay quiet as possible about this because the media wasn't going to let this go so easily.
"Someone would have known by now, they're going to be here soon,"
"I know Robin but at least we can give as less information as we can about this,"
"Not everybody is going to listen; they'll scoop out everything as long as they get a chance to be on TV," said Robin.
"Yeah HM Keane took care of that," Bubbles said and noticed Robin's furrowed brows, "she said she's going to suspend the students who say anything more than 'they had a fight',"
Robin smiled, "that is so like her."
Bubbles smiled back, "I guess it is. By the way, I love this little British accent you've picked up,"
"Well, living in England for a bit does that to you."
Blossom was crouching in front of the door to their basement with her ear attached to it. She could hear only murmurs in there because Professor had gone through all the trouble of sound-proofing the lab so even people such as his daughter would have trouble hearing the havoc he caused in there.
Blossom appreciated all that but that was making it hard to hear whatever was in there at that moment.
Bubbles walked up behind her and imitated her sister's position. "What are you doing?"
Blossom shushed her. "Trying to listen."
Bubbles frowned. "But he's alone in there,"
"Yeah so either he's either gone crazy or he's, obviously, talking to someone who we don't know about," Blossom explained.
"He's coming back!" Just as she said Blossom flew right to the kitchen and Bubbles sprinted to sit on the sofa.
Professor came out of the lab looking exhausted as ever. He went up to Bubbles who was trying to act as casual as possible. He considered asking her what she was doing just sitting on the sofa looking around but instead he said, "You're home."
She feigned surprise. "Professor! Weren't you in your lab just now? I heard you. Not talking! I mean why would you be talking? You were alone, right?" she gave the most desperate laugh.
Professor laughed. "School's tiring you out huh? Thought you'd be used to it by now,"
Bubbles matched his laugh with her own awkward one. They heard a clatter from the kitchen and with that Blossom came out of the kitchen.
"Professor! I was just doing the dishes in there. Yeah just some very dirty dishes," she gave a laugh similar to Bubbles'.
"Okay," he laughed again and went up to his room.
Both sisters watched him close his door. Right as the door was shut Blossom opened up the lab's door and signalled Bubbles to come.
"I have a feeling we shouldn't be doing this . . ." Bubbles looked around as if something would jump at her at any moment. Blossom stepped down the stairs and walked around slowly, scanning the room.
A clatter in the corner startled Blossom. "Who's there?" she went up to the where the noise came from. She turned around. "Let's go bac-" But Bubbles was not behind her. She was right next to the lab's door.
Blossom heaved a sigh and went out the lab. She was certain someone or maybe something was there.
"Buttercup my GOD STOP IT!" Blossom screeched as tried to hold Buttercup down. "You can't do anything about it!"
"Watch me!" Buttercup struggled to get out of Blossom's grip.
"Bubbles help me out here,"
"You seem to be doing a fine job holding her down, Bloss." Bubbles replied innocently.
"I mean convincing her to stop!"
"Oh . . . okay," Bubbles at down next to Buttercup.
"Um Butters?"
"What?!" was the bitter reply.
Bubbles didn't know what to say. She looked around for a minute before looking at Buttercup. Bubbles racked her brain for anything that would calm her sister down.
"Do you want to punch something, Buttercup? Should I get you a bunny?"
Blossom cracked up after a moment.
"Bubbles are you sure you don't do this intentionally?" Buttercup asked. Blossom was still laughing.
Bubbles scrunched up her face. "I'm going to make dinner,"
After she left Blossom got herself together and looked blankly at Buttercup. "What?" she asked.
"What?" Buttercup replied.
"Are you okay?" Blossom asked. She wasn't sure why she was asking Buttercup this, she looked fine but there was still something off about her.
"Aside from some minor injuries and torn pride? I feel fantastic!" Blossom pursed her lips at her stinging voice but said nothing.
"I'm going to sleep for a bit," she covered her face with her blanket and faced sideways, away from where Blossom was.
Blossom sighed. "We'll be here if you need anything," after not hearing a reply from Buttercup she thought to go on and she did. "It's not that you're weak Buttercup, it's just that he was-"
"Just get out Bloss,"
The cafeteria was full up to the exit door. Almost the whole student body was in one room, standing around two people. Some were sweating profusely, some had gripped their hands in anticipation.
One of the two standing at the centre of all this tightened his jaw. His eyebrows furrowed and his eyes piercing.
The other, however, was standing as loose as anyone human possibly could. Not a hint of intimidation in her eyes. She leaned back on the table, the bandage on her head stretched as she raised her eyebrows.
Butch loosened his jaw, inhaled lightly as the crowd inhaled with him. He broke the glare, turned his head to the side and said something no one had expected him to.
He had said sorry.
Every eye in the crowd popped out of their sockets. They all looked back and forth at the two.
BC's pushed herself away from the table. "Is this a joke?" she looked around as though she'd find some hidden cameras somewhere.
"I want to believe it is," Butch replied. "But it's not."
Buttercup's cold façade faltered for a moment. She tightly gripped the chair behind her. "You. What're you planning?"
Butch's cold laugh echoed through the cafeteria. "Blew you away, didn't I? Anyway, as much as I'd like to see you look so dumb,"
He turned around and walked through the way that the crowd made for him. He won this one when he actually thought he'd lost.
"So you're going to walk away without me accepting your apology? Or was it supposed to be this empty?"
He stopped in his tracks.
"I'm sure Brick didn't tell you to just say an empty apology, right?"
Butch turned around to see Buttercup smirking condescendingly at him.
"What do you want?" he said through his clenched teeth.
"Me? Nothing." She made an innocent face. "I just want to make sure your apology isn't empty."
"You Bi-"
"Wait, I want to hear what she has to say," Brick stepped in.
"Brick you're giving her a chance!" Butch protested.
BC pouted for a moment but then smiled. "I want him to be my slave for a month."
"You what?!"
Buttercup tutted. "I. Want. Him. To. Be. My. Slave. For. A. Month. Man I thought y'all had super hearing?"
Butch looked like he was on fire. Brick, though, had the same blank expression.
"You're going too far," he said.
"What Brick? Are you afraid that I'll bully your wittle brother? You've gotten soft,"
"I love you sisters." Boomer declared from the side.
Brick turned his glare from BC to his brother, who backed away. After a long, long pause, Brick closed his eyes for a moment and proceeded to say, "He'll do it."
"You crazy?! Fuck her, Brick! I'm not doing that!" Butch whined.
Brick got close to Butch and stared him down, "You've already made a mess of things. If you don't want that to happen to you then you will go up to her and you will be her slave for a fucking month."
He turned to Buttercup, "not a day over 30, you hear me?"
"I hear ya," Buttercup put her hands up. "30 days is more than enough."
Robin was feeling alone. The girls were acting strange towards her and BC went as far as to avoid her. Mike wasn't returning her calls nor was he talking to her at school. For the first time in her entire life she felt utterly helpless and alone.
Sitting at the back of the school building was all she did during lunch.
"I wonder what happened," she muttered to herself.
"Who's there?" she heard someone say. She didn't say anything in reply, better alone than having to talk with a stranger. "I know you're there."
She took a deep breath, pressed her knees to her chest. "It's Robin."
She heard footstep getting closer to her and after a moment they stopped. She looked up to see a red-eyed boy in a red and white hood standing next to her.
"I know who you are," he spoke.
She scoffed. "Do you?"
He shifted so that his back was to the wall. "Yeah you're the girl that hangs out with those freaks."
"They're the same as you, you know." She replied.
"We're not the same. Not even a bit," she looked up at him. He was staring at the clouds with a usual blank look on his face. "I don't see you with them these days . . . did you guys fight?"
She stared at the grass in front of her. "It's rare for someone like you showing interest in these petty problems."
He laughed and slid down next to her. It was the first time she'd seen any kind of expression on his face. She decided that it was refreshing. "You're right. I shouldn't venture . . . but what do you mean by someone like me?"
She sighed. "I don't know . . . cool and detached maybe."
He laughed again. "I thought you were going to say something like someone evil or violent,"
"Your green brother is the violent one . . . and the other one is kinda stupid . . . you're cool." She said.
"Kinda?" he chuckled and she chuckled with him. "And thanks . . . I think you're cool too."
He raised his fist towards her, she understood and bump him with her fist. It was an unexpected turn of events.
"You're not as bad as Blossom says you are," she wondered aloud.
He grunted. "She actually talks about me?" The bell announcing the end of lunch period rang. He stood up and offered her his hand. She took it and stood up. "Catch you later."
She smiled and nodded.
Robin stared at his back as he walked away. She couldn't believe someone like Brick would be able to have such a normal conversation and that that normal conversation with him would make her feel a lot less depressed. She turned around and went the other way, wondering whether she had just made a friend.
"Best day ever!"
Blossom had her face in her palms, grumbling under her breath while Bubbles just stared as Buttercup jumped up and down.
"I fucking flipping frrrrriiiickin LOVE IT!" Buttercup finished with a sigh and sat down. Blossom was too tired to even point out her crude language.
She lifted her head and gave Buttercup a tired look. She opened her mouth, inhaled, sighed and put her head in her hands again. "I feel like crying,"
"Gee no need to get emotional over accomplishing such a minor task," Buttercup commented.
Without lifting her head she said, "I can't even argue with you at the moment."
"You can just go sleep if you're that tired," Buttercup voiced. "Or not because then you'll be all naggy again."
She threw her hands in the air, "can you blame me?"
"C'mon Bloss I just did what none of us could do before," she stood up to make her point. "I made Butch Jojo my BITCH!"
"Mind your language Buttercup!" Blossom ordered. "If you think I'm actually happy with this, don't. I don't appreciate this one bit."
"Aaaannnnd she's back." Buttercup muttered and proceeded to mutter on about how ungrateful people are and the usual.
Bubbles came out the kitchen with a plate of chicken tenders in one hand and lasagna in the other. She set it down as Buttercup rubbed her hands drooling at the sight of food. She lunged for chicken tenders but they were taken away from her.
She looked at Blossom like she just gave Fuzzy Lumpkins money to have Buttercup disappear from the face of the earth.
"Betrayal." She said in a grave tone.
Blossom gave her a deadpan look and informed her, "We're going to divide these equally. Don't think that I'm just going to let you have all these."
"Tyranny."
"We don't joke about chicken tenders Buttercup." Bubbles said.
They divided their tenders equally and ate them while watching Stranger Things. After a while Blossom cleared her throat,
"Well . . . I didn't think you'd be able to manipulate someone like that,"
"Why not?" Buttercup asked.
"Usually it takes brains,"
"So you're admitting I have brains?"
Blossom laughed. "That would mean you wanted my approval about you having brains," she replied not taking her eyes off the TV.
After not hearing a retort from Buttercup she turned to look at her only to see her face wearing confusion as an expression.
"Don't tell me you didn't understand what I just said," Blossom raised her eyebrows.
Buttercup blinked. "I- I do understand w-what you said I just thought I'd spare your feelings,"
"Shhh both of you. Eat your lasagna, it's getting cold."
Generally, a person knows when and why he or she is being ignored, so they know what to apologise for. Sometimes you know that you're being ignored but have absolutely no idea what the cause is.
Same was with Robin, so she tries to give it another shot so she could know.
"Hey you three," she cautiously approached them, "and the other two."
Even though it resulted in nothing but chaos, the girls, more specifically Blossom, still decided to sit with the boys.
Blossom, Bubbles and Boomer greeted back and Brick just nodded. His jaw was tightly shut and Blossom's forehead had a vein bulging.
It didn't take a genius to tell that this was a bad time to talk, but it was now or never.
"Buttercup, I said hi," Robin said as she crossed her arms over her chest.
Without looking at Robin, Buttercup replied with a curt hm.
"Can we talk?" Robin asked. This time Buttercup looked up.
"We have nothing to talk about." She replied and looked down again.
"Buttercup," it was Blossom, "talk to her."
Buttercup looked at Blossom, her face contorted into a scowl and she exhaled in annoyance. "Talk,"
"Alone!" Robin raised her voice.
"Why not here? I doubt it's something important."
"It is important."
Buttercup stood up from her seat. Robin's jaw was clenched and her arms still crossed. Buttercup decided to do the same. Only it was much more intimidating. Though it didn't seemed to affect Robin as much.
"You've been avoiding me. Care to explain why?" Her voice came as cool as the October breeze.
"I don't care to share, Robin." She replied with equal coldness.
Robin sighed and slid her arms down from her chest. "You're being difficult Butters."
She opened her mouth to give another retort but was stopped.
"BC! Hey…" Mitch came jogging towards them and then slowed down as he reached them he furrowed his brows as he stood beside them.
"Hey Robin," he smiled at her and she smile back. "What's going on?"
Buttercup was in a daze, but quickly recovered as he asked the question.
Robin started. "It's nothi-"
"GREAT! He's here now so why don't you two go smooch in a corner."
Mitch's jaw dropped. Boomer muttered a o shit in the back.
"Buttercup what-"
"Or is a corner not your thing? I guess you two prefer the back. Can't blame you… it's pretty deserted, free of people, if you know what I mean."
Both Robin and Mitch were silent for a moment. Nobody really looked like they knew what to say.
After a moment of silence Robin took a step forward. "Is that what this is about?" she wanted to know, "you saw us kissing?"
Buttercup hesitated. "No."
"Then what?" Robin demanded.
"I don't have to explain myself to you," Buttercup sized her up.
"Look I wanted to tell you Butters, I just…" Mitch started to explain.
"What?" Buttercup yelled. "Just what?"
"Hey don't yell at him." Robin said and turned to Mitch, "you haven't done anything wrong. And you," she turned back to Buttercup. "Why do you care?"
Buttercup looked taken aback. She paused and then tightened her arms across herself.
Mitch had his eyebrows raised. He looked like he wanted to know. In the back, Blossom, Bubbles and Boomer had the same expression. Brick just looked amused.
Finally she unlocked her arms and yelled, "Because FUCK YOU that's why!"
She stomped away while bumping into a few people. Robin raised her arms in a here-we-are sort of way.
"Sorry Robin," Mitch muttered and went after Buttercup.
"It's okay Mitch," she muttered back.
