Chapter 2
Sunday June 27th 7:00 AM
Beep Beep Beep Beep
Wally rolls over onto his side to where his alarm is beeping.
"What the hell it's summer why is my alarm going off." grumbled Wally now forcefully hitting the machine to quiet down.
A few minutes later Barry comes in expecting Wally to be up but isn't so surprised to see he's still fast asleep.
"Hey kid, get up you got that science program today remember." Barry states trying to get Wally out of bed.
"I change my mind Uncle B I'm sleeping in, go on without me." Wally slurs still trying to drift back into sleep.
Barry sighs. "That's not the deal kid, come on it will be fun, there'll be kids your age there and they provide free pizza at lunch." Barry smiles.
Wally thought for a minute. "Free Pizza, hmmmm I could get up early for free pizza."
Slowly Wally gets up rubbing his eyes.
"Great, so get ready because we have to leave like now." Barry begins now leaving his nephew to get himself ready.
Wally huffs. "You had to agree to this Wally couldn't just get a job at McDonald's or some place where your time slot isn't 7:30 in the morning." Thought Wally now pulling on an old grey hoodie with a pair of jeans since it looked cold outside today.
Quickly enough Wally was ready, and by the time he got downstairs Barry was already putting his shoes on to leave.
Wally yawned. "Where leaving already we haven't even had breakfast yet." Complained Wally.
"Oh I had breakfast cause I actually got up at the right time kid, but maybe if we leave right now I'll pick something up for you on the way there." Barry said trying to get his teenage nephew moving faster.
At this Wally brightened up and was out the door in seconds.
The drive was quiet, as to be expected since Wally was half asleep only really waking up when the sweet smell of donuts entered the car for breakfast.
Quickly Wally ate them as he stared out the window watching the dark clouds loop around the sky in weird patterns.
Barry noticed this. "You know I bet where gonna get a bad storm today kid, hope we can beat it there though, I hate driving in bad weather." Barry shuddered at the idea.
Wally laughed. "You hate driving period, Uncle Barry." Wally stated.
Barry shrugged. "Not my thing, I hate traffic. Way to stressful."
"Yeah I guess it's annoying but I like the idea of driving, When I get my license I can go anywhere I want."
"Yeah anywhere like the food court." Barry joked as he pointed to the empty box of donuts sitting on Wally's lap.
Wally scowled but then laughed.
The 2 continued there drive for another 15 minutes and to Barry's relief the rain had only started by the time Wally had gotten signed in and assigned an area of the building.
"Lab B-4." Stated the older looking man who was signing up all of the high school kids into there programmed areas.
Wally nodded now taking the name tag from the man that would unlock the door to B-4.
"Come on kid I'll take you there it's on the way to my lab." Barry explained showing Wally that he would be in B-7
They began Walking, Wally although looked nervous.
Barry sensing this nudged him a bit. "Hey you okay Kid?" Barry asked.
Wally looked up. "Oh yeah just nervous I guess I'll be fine though."
Barry nodded. "Nothing to be nervous about kid, I'm like 3 doors down if you need anything plus I'm pretty sure whoever your partnered with hasn't done this before either." Barry began.
"How do you know.." Wally was interrupted.
"First year there doing this sort of thing." Barry finished.
Wally nodded, and the two eventually made there way to lab B-4.
"Okay see ya kid I'll be around to pick you up at around 4:00, don't have too much fun okay." Barry joked now leaving his nephew for is own work.
Wally took a deep breath. "Come on Wally you got this just pretend to be smart and maybe they won't notice." Wally thought now making an effort to open the door.
Once through though Wally was surprised to see that no one was in there that is until he spotted a short blond haired boy with glasses completely lost in whatever he was doing.
"Well better make a good first impression." Thought Wally as he made his way towards the boy who still didn't seem to notice Wally's presence.
So much for good first impressions because after only taking a few steps Wally tripped over his feet landing on the table containing thousands of papers neatly organised, or where neatly organised until the table flipped over covering the floor with folders what looked like reports all over the floor.
"Ouch damn it." Screamed Wally automatically.
The boy with glasses looked up to see a lean red haired green eyed boy on the floor covered in papers looking rather angry and embarrassed.
He stifled a laugh before going to help him.
"You should really be more careful around here you know, lots of expensive stuff." The boy teased now gathering the papers and stacking them back into the correct order.
Wally frowned. "Yeah sorry about that, I don't have that much experience in a lab."
"Whaat I thought you where like a professional scientist or something." The boy teased sarcastically.
Wally got up to help. "Ha ha very funny, but no just here because of my Aunt and Uncle." Wally explained now also gathering papers off of the floor.
"Let me guess they wanted you to start becoming more independent and thought Science geek was a good place to start." The boy laughed.
Wally was shocked. "yeah, yeah that's exactly what happened same for you to?" Wally asked.
The boy tried not to laugh again. "No just really good at science, thought this would be good on a resume for University."
Wally looked surprised The boy couldn't have been older then him and already looking out for collages. The blond haired boy clearly read Wally's expression and continued.
"I skipped 3 years in school if that's what your thinking I'm in grade 11 when I should be in grade 8." Explained the boy who by now had finished cleaning up the mess and was now heading back to his work with Wally behind him.
"Wow, so your.."
"13." The boy interrupted.
"And you are?"
"Oh, um I'm 15 and my names Wallace West, but you can just call me Wally."
"Hey Wally, I'm Benjamin Hunter, but you can just call me Ben."
Wally nodded. "So what exactly are you doing right now and actually what are we suppose to be doing?" Wally asked.
"Oh well I'm working on a chemical compound that will react with heat." Ben explained.
Wally looked confused.
"Its there on page 117." Ben pointed to a large book sitting on a table a few feet away.
"Are instructor Mrs Carter was in here a minute before you arrived and she helped me start she'll probably be back in a bit for you to." Ben said.
Wally nodded. "She can take her time because I seriously have no idea how to do any of this stuff."
It seems that Wally spoke to soon because literally 10 seconds after saying that a tall thin woman with dark brown hair scrunched up in a messy bun came walking through the door.
"Ah you must be Wallace West." Mrs Carter said.
"yeah but you can just call me Wally."
"Okay Wally how about we get you started with something a little easier over here." Mrs Carter said now gesturing for Wally to follow her to a nearby table.
Wally quickly obliged and in minutes the 2 were going over things he understood and didn't meaning basically everything was new to him.
Mrs Carter didn't seem fazed at all though and instead gave Wally a 50 page package of sheets to read through and highlight the important facts.
"You will need to understand everything in here." Mrs Carter pointed to the sheets. "before you start any experiments or projects okay Wally."
Wally looked bored and unfocused but agreed and started reading the first page before Mrs Carter left.
Quickly Wally turned around to face Ben who was still deep in thought.
"Hey Ben what you want to do, I'm soo bored." Wally exaggerated.
"What, don't you have those papers to read?" Ben asked.
Wally rolled his eyes. "yeah but the papers can wait dude come on let's have some fun." Wally begged now walking along the shelves holding tiny bottles filled with different coloured liquids.
"Hmmm what are these." Wally asked now grabbing a container holding a bright blue liquid in his hand's.
"Oh where not suppose to touch those yet." Ben stated looking over at Wally.
"Why?" Asked Wally.
"I don't know maybe because the sign right next to you say's "Don't touch." Ben points out.
Wally sighs. "Okay but dude this stuff looks so cool there's got to be some fun stuff we could do, like what are you interested in other then science?" Wally asks now looking over at Ben who has stopped working all together hoping he will have the answer to cure his boredom.
Ben looks down for a second almost as if embarrassed. "Umm I don't know."
Wally walks over to the shorter teen not convinced. "Come on dude I'm not gonna judge, hell my favourite colour is pink." Wally blurts out half laughing as he say's this.
Ben's caught off guard by this and laughs to. "Your favourite colour is pink?"
"yeah, well next to yellow and red, but yeah I like pink."
"Okay okay, umm I like and please don't laugh.. superheros."
"Superheros." Wally repeats.
"Umm yeah, I've got a ton of newspaper article on them I even met Superman one time, he's my favourite. I got a bunch of comics and a green lantern shirt even though he's my 4th favourite and..." Ben continues rambling about the different heroes and there battles in great detail and Wally couldn't help but hang onto Ben's every word as he told each story brilliantly.
The 2 talked and messed around for the rest of the morning, throwing paper air planes, and prank calling other places making Ben completely forget about his work. By lunch the 2 were best friends talking about school life and joking about who could eat more pizza, with Wally blowing Ben away after eating 10 slices.
"Dude how do you eat that much." Asked Ben amazed at his friends stomach abilities.
"I don't know man but I think 10 slices was a bad idea." Wally moaned and Ben just laughed.
After lunch Mrs Carter made it known that finishing there work by the end of the day was a must, and so the 2 got back to work although continued talking all throughout.
At around 3:30 Wally had finished and so had Ben and the 2 just sat on the floor listening to the thunder outside.
"Dude that's a big storm." Wally commented.
"Yeah, apparently there was early tornado warnings."
"What seriously In Central, we never get tornado's in Central."
"That's what was said on the news." Ben confirmed.
"huh then that's a real big storm." Wally repeated.
They where silent for a bit before Ben spoke up.
"Hey Wally."
"Yeah."
"Thanks for making today awesome." Ben looked sincere and it made Wally really happy.
"Hey no problem that's my job you know, to find the fun in anything." Wally joked.
"yeah, your really good at it to, can't wait to see you tomorrow."
Wally thought. "Tomorrow yeah, maybe this science stuff wasn't so bad and I couldn't very well abandon Ben so this internship thing might just be permanent."
"Yeah me to Ben." As Wally spoke the lights went out making Ben jump a bit out of surprise.
"Power outage." Ben stated now straining his eyes to see Wally's face.
"Yeah probably from the storm, hey does this place have emergency lighting." asks Wally now turning on the flashlight from his phone to look around.
"Umm I saw a cable box over there but I can't guarantee that this place even has emergency lighting." Ben explains pointing past the shelves full of liquid to a Gray box attached to the wall.
Wally nods. "Couldn't hurt to check." Wally explains as he gets up to walk towards the cable box.
Ben stays behind watching from a distance.
As Wally approaches he sees the windows above him and the storm is worse now, he can hear the wind from outside and lightening can be seen just outside of the building.
"The storm is getting worse." Wally mutters as he makes it halfway past the shelves containing all of the strangely coloured liquids.
Suddenly the room goes white as the windows shatter sending a bolt of lightening directly at Wally.
Before he has time to react searing pain shoots through his body as he feels his flesh melt, and his body jolt and fry.
The glass bottles containing the liquids shatter sending shards of glass at Wally as the different chemicals spill all over his open wounds.
The pain is unbearable and even though the accident took no longer then a few seconds Wally's body felt as if the agony would never go away and his crisp body tumbles to the floor.
The last thing Wally remembers is Ben running towards him screaming his name although the voice seem's so distant and echoes as if he's repeatedly chanting it, then darkness.
DUH DUH DUH, What will happen next I wonder :)
