A/N: So I held off long enough on this project. You might've seen my individual summaries, but now, ladies and gentlemen, seeing as we might not get new Doctor Who episodes for a good while, here is my attempt to make my own custom series, starting with a special.

Summary: While trying to take Yaz on one final hurrah, the Doctor and her companion get on the wrong side of a gun barrel.

It's a cold night in Chicago. The smell of the alleyway was less than pleasant. There was sound everywhere, so you'd have to have a good ear to hear the commotion occurring at the end of a certain alleyway. Wannabe gangsters were roughing up a homeless man. No reason in particular, only because they could. They took turns punching him in the gut, the man being powerless to stop them. The ringleader was the nastiest of them, using the handle of his father's pistol to hit him across the face.

When the man was down, they proceeded to kick him all at once. They stopped when they heard a strange noise and felt a gust of wind. They looked behind them, and two of them were blinded by flashing lights, but they caught the word "Police" beforehand and ran like hell. The remaining four were covering their eyes, before seeing a blue box that wasn't there before. Everyone but the ringleader, who aimed his gun, ran away from the scene.

The door opened, revealing two women, a blonde chick and foreign broad. He fired his gun twice and watched the both of them drop to the ground. He stood there until he heard police sirens in the distance, at which point he ran away from the two women clinging for life.

Thirteen Hours

By Peter Ferekn

Thirteen hours ago, the Doctor and Yaz were in the TARDIS library. Yaz was picking books to take with her when she leaves the TARDIS for good. So far, she had a cook book and an English translation of something the Doctor called "the Bible, but for Shobogans." Whatever a Shobogan was, Yaz decided it might be worth checking out an alien's religion.

"What are Shobogans?" Yaz asked.

"You know how every nation has an indigenous people? Like the Americans and their Natives?"

"Yeah?"

"They're the indigenous people of Gallifrey. Not totally unlike Native Americans, they even have governmental takeover of their land."

"So...this is the Bible of your religion?"

"Oh no, I don't have a religion. But I am part of one, flip to Section 597, Part Æ."

Yaz did so, and it was true enough, they had a section dedicated to the Doctor when she was a war hero who single handedly relocated the Shobogans away from the battlefront on Gallifrey despite orders saying not to get involved.

"Wow...I knew you said you were a man before, I didn't think you would be so handsome. No offense."

"Taken. Well, look around for a few minutes while I load up the movies you wanted to see. On that note, why do you want to see Pirates of the Caribbean? Any movie in all of time, and you choose Pirates?"

"I like the first one! Is that such a bad thing?"

"Oh! Then never mind, I had the fifth one loaded, let me change that real quick."

Personally, Yaz hadn't seen the fifth one, but based on Ryan's two word review of "it sucked," Yaz made a point to not see it, lest it affect the way she enjoys the first one.

Yaz looked around the library, picking more books off the shelf. One that she took was a complete history of Earth, because why not? She skimmed through it, but didn't find her name on the two hundred page list of very important people. Figures. She actually fell asleep trying to read about the Medieval Period. After a good ten hours, the Doctor woke Yaz up and led her to the theatre.

The Doctor had set up two seats in the TARDIS's mile long theatre, popcorn and drinks on either side. Yaz took a bag of popcorn and sat down just in time for the movie to start. Same as any other viewing of the movie, Yaz really enjoyed it. She had no complaints.

"What do you wanna do more, water slides or surfing?" the Doctor asked.

"Uh...surfing," Yaz answered after some consideration.

The Doctor went to the main console, pushed some buttons and pulled some levers, and the TARDIS was moving.

"Okay, got your swimwear? Good. Do I have my swim wear? Hmm...I can make some. Oh, keep your clothes on, you can never be certain of where we land. Okay, then. If I did it correctly, we should be in Malibu."

The Doctor opened the door, Yaz by her side, only to get shot in one of her hearts. She didn't even see the shooter before she fell to the floor in writhing pain. She heard Yaz fall as well and based on her breathing sounds, the Doctor guessed she was shot in one of her lungs.

The Doctor had to get up. She had to get Yaz back inside the TARDIS as soon as possible, but she was unable to do it herself. She settled for screaming, but her screams were drowned out by police sirens. They were in a car chase. It was the dead of night. Based on her view from the floor, she knew she was in Chicago.

"SOMEBODY, PLEASE HELP!"

No one came. Eventually, her voice just gave out. She could feel it. She was bleeding out. If she hazard a guess, she had maybe two minutes left. Yaz had one. She drew the last of her strength to grab Yaz and drag both her and herself back inside the TARDIS.

Ten seconds.

"H...hhuhh...Help her."

The TARDIS heard her. With three seconds to spare, the TARDIS froze Yaz in time. It would be up to the next Doctor to heal her. The Doctor used up her last breath. Now she just had to let go and let nature take its course. She felt pain she hadn't felt in a good seven years. That's how long she had that face. But now, she was getting another one. More correctly, he was getting another one.

The Doctor was growing in height, and he was growing in other areas as well. His skin tone was darkened to a tanned level. The hair curled and blackened. The eyes were now a dark brown. He put a hand to his face and discovered he had facial hair, something he hadn't had in a very long time and never even started out with. He felt...young. Very young. How old was this body?

He got himself up with no trouble and looked at the reflective surface on the console. And he laughed (he made note of the voice, definitely deeper than it was a few seconds ago). He was a baby compared to his previous regenerations (or at least, the ones he remembered specifically). He guessed his body was somewhere in the seventeen to twenty range.

His smile fell when he looked back on Yaz, still frozen in time. He went right to work and did some doctoring. He got the bullet out of her body, and managed to fix her up. Eventually, after a few minutes with the universe's best medical tools, she might've been even healthier than she was before she got shot.

With that, he unlocked the time freeze. Yaz breathed in as if it was her first breath after spending hours with her head underwater. She was hyperventilating for a bit before she calmed down and looked at her surroundings.

She saw the Doctor's outline on the other side of the console and thought she looked a bit different. When the Doctor walked around, she saw why. The Doctor wasn't a woman anymore. She then remembered what happened to her not just four minutes ago from her perspective. They were shot. She knew the Doctor could change her appearance when (s)he was close to death, but she wasn't prepared for her to change back into a him.

"Doctor?"

The new Doctor smiled and said, "Hello. It's good to see you not dying."

They were both taken aback. He had an Irish accent!

"Um...you too, I guess."

The Doctor went to the control panel and saw what he did wrong. He accidentally put the settings to subtraction. Once he put it to multiplication, he was able to get the location exact. He even did an outside sweep to make sure, and they were indeed in Malibu, 2019.

"Okay. We are definitely in Malibu this time. Unless you'd rather just go straight home?"

Yaz considered her options. On the one hand, she almost died, like actually down to the second. On the other hand, she couldn't afford to go to Malibu once she leaves.

"Let's go to the beach."

The Doctor grinned, and was on his way to the door when he could finally feel how tight his clothes were. Damn, his last incarnation was tiny!

"Hold on, Yaz, I need to get more comfortable clothes. You might want to change too, you look like a bloody mess!"

Yaz changed into a new top and waited for the Doctor. Huh, the woman was now waiting for the man to get dressed. When the Doctor finally did come back, what he was wearing did seem comfortable. That might be due to the bathrobe he was wearing around his T-shirt and basketball shorts.

"Right then, let's go."

The Doctor and Yaz spent their final few hours together having fun on the beach, but they never did end up going surfing. Either way, Yaz still got her vacation and her one last hurrah in the TARDIS. The Doctor, now with a hat, and Yaz finally arrived in Sheffield.

"Well, guess this is goodbye, then," the Doctor said, opening the door.

"Hopefully not, you will visit, right? Maybe I can get Ryan and Graham, and we can all meet up in a cafe or something?"

The Doctor smiled and said, "Oh, Yaz, I'd be an idiot not to. Who knows? Might be a woman the next time you see me, or when I see you. Either way..."

With one final hug, Yaz walked to her front doorstep and unlocked the door. She opened it, but turned around when she heard the noise of the TARDIS leaving. She sighed, straightened up, and walked through the door.

A/N: And there is the special before the real adventures begin. If you read my summary, you would know that it is very different from what I have here. For one thing, it had Graham instead of Yaz, and the companion doesn't die in this one, nor does the Doctor regenerate in the alleyway. She still regenerates lying down, something different from all the other modern regenerations. And yeah, the new Doctor described here is a self description except for the Irish accent. That is just for the sake of an Irish Doctor, who will return next week probably.
