CHAPTER 39 – The truth

"Dad, are you all right? It looks like you're hiding something from me..." I ask almost menacingly. I don't want to hurt him, but I'm tired of all of his lies.

My father immediately retracts back pretending nothing happened, but doing so only makes me even more curious.

"Dad?!" I try to grumble at him, but he still does not respond.

"What happened in the last few days? I remember almost nothing! And why are all the guests happy to "see me in good health"? What happened to me?"

Silence.

I'm anxious and the fact of not knowing the reason makes me nervous, and with my father continuing to hide the truth makes me lose my patience.

"Damn dad, do you want to answer me?!" I yell at him standing up and clapping my hands on the table, rattling dishes and glasses.

My father sighs sadly.

"I'm sorry my child, I was a fool..."

"What did you do?" I ask him, worried.

"But I did it for your own good, you got to understand... I... you were suffering too much..."

My father tries to hold back tears, but he was not succeeding very well.

"What did you do?"

"I... have erased your memory..."

I'm blown away by these words; so much so that I cannot say anything.

"But as I feared I deleted only the memories, but the emotions remained, including the love you feel for Jonathan..." Says my father, turning; he doesn't seem to have the courage to look me in the eyes after what he did.

"J-Jonny..." I mumble as I've already heard this name; just the thought makes me happy.

"W-where is he?"

My father lowers his head, takes a moment and answers me:

"He's dead." He says bluntly.

I can't answer, I wanted the truth at all costs, but now I'm not so sure I want to hear it.

"When you were a demon... he ran towards you while you blew a flame against him. He embraced you and your soul felt his warmth allowing you to take control of yourself... but the shadow fire didn't give him a chance..."

"He sacrificed himself to save me?" I muttered, shaking.

My father sighs, turns to me and hugs me, but his fatherly embrace would never be able to warm my frozen heart, nobody could ever do it...
