Ghost Track
Jonathan's green eyes were large and lively, while their color varied as the changes in stage lights.
Mavis' blue eyes were large and equally joyous, the reflection of the boy's eyes was sharp, but not reciprocated.
"Jonny..." The vampire said with a whisper making the human blinked, "For once I would like to be me to dedicate a song to you."
"Some monstrous song? " Jonathan asked, bringing his hands just above his head and pretending to be a threatening monster.
"No, silly! To tell the truth I heard it this morning on your phone before you woke up. I hope you do not mind..."
"All right, what I should say? By now you've also talked with my mother without my permission!" The boy said, playfully angry.
"When I listened to it's reminded me what you've done for me, how you saved me. I hope to be able to convey all the emotions of this song."
"So I should also dedicate it to you for how you saved my life!" Jonathan said, smiling, while gently stroking the cheek of the girl, who blushed.
Mavis took a couple of steps toward the crowd of monsters below, closed her eyes, gripped the microphone with both hands and took a deep breath to concentrate herself.
The "big screen" of fireflies behind her went out, and a moment later the went out also the lights-cauldrons filled of bright potions made floating by witches.
In the pool a silent darkness fell.
"How can you see into my eyes," The vampire began to sing without music, while a soft light was lit on her and, behind, a group of red fireflies drew the outline of a heart.
"like open doors"
A series of electric guitar arpeggios echoed, the heart behind them was filled with red and beating to the rhythm of the guitar, Jonathan was just a black shadow on the red heart. And then again an instrumental silence.
"Leading you down into my core
where I've become so numb."
Jonny started playing, meanwhile Griffin also took the rhythm and began to keep time with the drums, creating a light background.
"Without a soul
my spirit's sleeping somewhere cold,
until you find it there and lead it back home."
Silence, the stage went dark.
"Wake me up!" Jonathan shouted into the Mavis' microphone, loudly breaking the silence with the electric guitar at a fast pace, Griffin also went with him, while behind them there was like an explosion of fireflies that began to overwhelm the whole stage, now also illuminated by the headlights. The spectators shouted amazed.
"Wake me up inside." Mavis said, starting a "singing conversation" with the boy.
"I can't wake up!" The human continued, while the two young were swallowed up by more than a million multi-colored light ball.
"Wake me up inside."
"Save me!" Only now the fireflies began to lower and leave the stage, moving among the spectators.
"Call my name and save me from the dark."
"Wake me up!"
"Bid my blood to run."
"I can't wake up."
"Before I come undone."
"Save me!"
"Save me from the nothing I've become."
A new short silence, then them resumed with a calmer rhythm and Mavis continued as a soloist:
"Now that I know what I'm without
you can't just leave me.
Breathe into me and make me real.
Bring me to life."
Just a short break and the two took turns to sing the refrain.
"Wake me up!"
"Wake me up inside."
"I can't wake up!"
"Wake me up inside."
"Save me!"
"Call my name and save me from the dark."
"Wake me up!"
"Bid my blood to run."
"I can't wake up!"
"Before I come undone."
"Save me!"
"Save me from the nothing I've become."
"Bring me to life.
I've been living a lie.
There's nothing inside. Coff! Coff! Coff!" Jonathan sang in a low and husky voice, too much for his throat. Mavis turned to him worried, but the human, although still bent, raised a thumb to calm everyone down.
"Bring me to life." The vampire continued without music.
"Jonny! Keep vocal cords and carry on!" Griffin shouted to make fun of the human.
The boy stood up and began to play.
"Frozen inside without your touch,
without your love, darling." The girl sang, and then she turned to the human laying a hand on his cheek and slowly approaching her face to his, more and more...
"Only you are the Life Among the Dead." And her lips did fade the word dead with a kiss.
Jonathan, who for a moment seemed to have melted by the kiss, suddenly broke away from her, leaving her hanging, to sing his brief monologue:
"All of this sight,
I can't believe I couldn't see.
Kept in the dark,
but you were there in front of me."
The boy raised his eyes and realized that the girl was sullen and glared him, but a moment later she began to sing as if nothing had happened.
"I've been sleeping a 1000 years it seems.
I've got to open my eyes to everything."
Then it was the turn of Jonny:
"Without a thought.
Without a voice.
Without a soul.
Don't let me die here.
There must be something wrong!"
The end he tried again to make a scream voice, but to avoid poor performances Mavis sang over him:
"Bring me to life!"
"Bring me to life."
"I've been living a lie."
But Jonathan stubborn to want scream, so he used his last chance to do it:
"There's nothing inside!" Many monsters suspected that Jonathan was not human, and perhaps they were right, no human could ever make a sound like that, or at least no human would be so crazy or stupid enough to try. In terms of singing, the result was satisfactory, perhaps thanks to the sound made by 'the blast of his vocal cords, the collapse of his lungs and the gurgling of his blend intestines in his body.
The young man was kneeling, supported by his guitar, exhausted.
Mavis looked at him a moment, but she did not ask him how he was, she went back towards the spectators and concluded:
"Bring me to life!"
As the lights dimmed until leaving in shadow all over the stage except her, who took the praises and compliments by the public with a satisfied smile on her face. Perhaps she had deliberately not concerned with the health of the boy as a little revenge for breaking that kiss.
But she could not hold a grudge to him for a long time, and joined him squeezing him in a bear hug.
All of the monsters seemed to have enjoyed, only one was standing in a corner, his face was gloomy.
Why Dracula not rejoiced for the great party?
Was he worried about the extraordinary council of the Order of the Dragon?
No.
Perhaps because the murder of Victoria would set monsters back hundreds of years?
Not even.
Perhaps because he saw his daughter grow up and moving further away from him?
It saddened him, but not enough to not enjoy the party.
"They were fantastic!" A skeleton lady exclaimed to her husband.
"Yeah, definitely the best singers that this place has ever had!" The husband replied.
Dracula hearing those words wrinkled his nose in disapproval.
The truth?
That stage was "his", the applause was "his", those attentions were "his"... even that girl vampire was "his"! And now? Now he was just one of many.
He could go over to many things, but not to the fact of no longer being the "piece de resistance", unique and irreplaceable of the Hotel Transylvania.
And so he turned on his heel and went back inside, muttering something, and the fact that no one cared about where he was going made him sputter even more.
But Drac was not the only one not to have fun, a black shadow looking at the stage from the top of the ruined tower, while Mavis and Jonathan were enjoying the wonderful night kissing again.
The black of that figure was broken by the white of his sneer filled of contempt and the sparkle of his fangs, before vanishing into the darkness of the night.
End... ?
For those who do not know what is a ghost track is the final scene inserted after the end credits in some films, especially animated. Memorable is the scene of the raven that brings the wooden sculptures that Merida has purchased the film Brave, but there are plenty of examples.
Because I love the ghost track I decided to write one too, I hope you enjoyed it! In addition, I promised that I would have used the song "My Immortal" by Evanescence which was recommended to me by Guest 22/10/13 (I'm sorry, but I do not know your name...).
Greetings to all!
