Author's Notes: Hey guys, now I know I usually write about Fallout, but this is an idea I've had for a long time. Hope you guys like it. Reviews and PMs are appreciated.

Prologue

Second Lieutenant Mark Andrews, U.S Army, 101st Airborne Division

July 4th, 2017

JFK International Airport

0900 hours

Stepping into the cool New York morning, Mark Andrews stepped off of the plane that had taken him from Fort Bragg, Georgia. See, Mark was in the army, but he was specifically in the 101st Airborne. The "Airborne" patch on the left shoulder of his military uniform made that very clear. But even more so, Mark was happy, more happy than he'd been in a long time. This was going to be his first leave since he started his sixth tour in the army, which had been almost one year ago. He was home for the 4th of July, and he was going to go back home.

Walking through the terminal towards the parking lot and his car, he thought about what he was going to say when he got back to his hometown. His only family, his one brother, Fred and his nephew, Archie, lived there. He also had two other brothers, Frank and Oscar. Oscar had died a few years into his service in the army, being killed by a sniper in Afghanistan. And Frank, well Frank was Frank. He had served his original term of service, but then after that, he just ran off to god-knows-where. And his parents, John and Melinda, were both deceased. John Andrews had been a Vietnam war veteran, while Melinda had been a nurse. John died when Mark and Fred had been in high school, and Melinda died when Mark had gone to West Point. So in his mind, his brother Fred and his son Archie were his only family.

Getting to his car, which was a retrofitted military jeep, he put his duffel bag in his car and began to drive towards his hometown, Riverdale: The Town of Pep.

*3 hours later*

It had taken him around three hours to arrive in Riverdale. The town still looked virtually the same since he had last seen it. He had stopped at a rest stop before entering the town to stretch his legs. Getting out, Mark saw literally no one, so he thought this would be a good place to take a minute and get some shuteye. The second lieutenant was about to fall asleep when he heard a gunshot.

He immediately jolted up. He looked around, but saw no one.

"Okay, the shot must have come from behind the tree-line. And it must have come from some kind of a high-caliber rifle. Ok, I need to see if anyone was hurt!" he told himself as he got out of the car and ran towards the tree-line.

. As he got closer to where the shot came from, Mark pulled out his military-issue 1911 handgun, just in case the shooter was nearby. But as Mark cleared the tree-line, he saw a sight that surprised him: a teenage girl, around 16, in a white dress, sitting next to an overturned boat. The experienced army soldier sprinted over to her.

"Ma'am, are you all right? Are you hit?" he asked her. The girl had been obviously crying for some reason.

"Jason!" she replied, still crying.

"Ma'am, can you at least tell me your name?" he inquired.

"Che..ryl. I'm Cheryl." she choked out.

"Well Cheryl, was Jason shot? Ma'am?" he tried to ask her, but it was no use. She was in shock. He had seen the same things with soldiers in Iraq.

"Okay Cheryl, stay here. I'm gonna call the cops, and have them see what happened here. " he told her as he picked up my cell phone and dialed for the Riverdale Sheriff's Department.

*1 hour later*

The cops had arrived, as well as the girl's parents. They were obviously well-off, as they wore business suits and drove in on a limousine. But when the cops arrived, he saw one face I did not accept to see: Tom Keller as Sheriff.

He walked over to him and began to talk.

"Tom?" he asked the sheriff.

"Mark? What are you doing here?" Tom asked me.

"Well, I was on leave for the 4th and I decided to come home to see Fred and Archie. And this is what happened." he told the cop.

"Oh, well we're going to investigate. Anyway, I wanted to ask you about a job." the sheriff responded.

"A job?" he inquired.

"Well, we have an opening in the Sheriff's Department as a head deputy. You have experience, so yes or no? Are you going to join?" he asked him.

"Uh, I don't know. This is because my tour is over in 3 months, but maybe when it is over, I'll come back and see. But I have to go now. My flight is in 5 hours, and there are still some things I have to do. Hope you find that kid." he told Tom as he walked away, not knowing by the time he came back what impact his actions would have on himself, and the town of Riverdale.

Author's Notes: Hope you liked. If this gets good views, I might make Chapter 1. Thanks for reading.
