I dedicate this fanfiction to my girlfriend and all my readers, reviewers and the beta reader floodmaster16.
I know it's been over a month, but me and my girlfriend have moved home and I had to do some renovation work.
But to celebrate my twenty-fifth birthday I give you this gift.
March 15, 1990 - March 15, 2015 Happy birthday to me!
Just one thing, in chapter 14, I left out a part of the first fight between Mavis and Ruthven, I report it below:
"You want to fight us, little princess?" Ruthven asked, "Or ado you understand that there is a diplomatic solution?"
Mavis replied unsheathing her claws.
"I see..." The Lord sighed, dissatisfied.
"Go easy on her, she has a lot of potential, so try not to kill her." Erzsebeth said looking at the girl with a veil of sadness, "How can you prefer humans instead of us who are your brothers, after all they have done to us monsters, after all they have done to you."
"Humans are changed, of course, there are bad people, but there are also evil monsters like you, but we can't tarred them with the same brush. Humans are not as bad as when they killed my mother, not more, and I can't punish them for their ancestors' atrocities. and so I can't do anything but forgive them and let it pass." Mavis replied, promptly.
Erzsebet chuckled amused, "But then you forgive everyone except us?" And shifted her gaze to Ruthven, he seemed to understand what it meant that look.
The Lord reached into his pocket and pulled out a gold medallion that he made it turn through his fingers, it was a seven-pointed star with a large ruby.
"That's your medallion Drac, right? I saw it on your paintings of when you were human, it was on your crown. Also it's a cliché that appears in every movie about you." Jonny said.
"Yes, it's true, that is my jewel, why do you have it? I thought I'd lost it many years ago."
"I see you're informed guy, what story is told about Count Dracula in the human world?" Ruth asked.
The boy was confused about why he asked this, but chatterbox as he was, he did not need to ask twice, "Dracula bought a palace in England because the population in Transylvania was hiding from him, however he was not known abroad and he would have had more food ... "Jonathan stopped seeing the count puffed bored for the slanders about him, but the boy continued," In Britain he began to make victims and no one suspected of a monster, except Abraham Van Helsing who gave him hunting, Drac fled to his castle in Transylvania, but was hunted down and killed. "
The count rolled his eyes as a sign of dissent, "How many bullshit have been said about me, I've never been in Britain..." But he stopped suddenly, thoughtfully, as if he had got a revelation and looked up at Ruthven, "I don't, but you are, you're British..."
The Lord chuckled, "Perspicacious." He cut short.
"Don't take all credits, Ruth," Erzsebet exclaimed, "After all, the plan was mine, but Vlad is so spineless that it didn't work as I thought..."
"Dad, what are you talking about?" Mavis asked, confused.
"They ... They are responsible for the death of your mother ..." The count said, growling by rage of not being strong enough to avenge his wife, "He pretended to be me to put humans against me, is due to them if Martha is dead!"
Mavis clenched her fists and gritted her teeth, she was blinded by rage.
And now the new chapter!
CHAPTER 16 – The last attempt – part 2
"Mavy... how are you?" The boy asked, as he felt his heart pounding fast. He was afraid of her, and he was ashamed of himself for what he was feeling.
"I can't change what I am." Mavis said, avoiding Jonathan's question , "But even thought I can't accept what I now am, I did what I thought was right at the time. Even though my mother forbid me from doing it, even though I knew that I had to hide this thing inside me... it's just that... when I learned that my mother died because of them, I was blinded by anger. I got carried away by emotion and I... did what I did." Then she raised her head and looked at Johnathan, but what she saw saddened her even more. In fact, she lowered her gaze again and covered her face with her hands.
The boy was confused by the behavior of the girl, but before he could ask anything to her she began to speak:
"You are afraid of me..." She said in a voice that was broken by sobs, "I feel so alone..."
"M-Mavy... you must not say that, you're not alone. It's true, I'm afraid, but not of you. I'm afraid of what you have inside of you. But I cannot live without you, and I don't care if you're a vampire, a human, or a demon, you will forever be my little vampire with black bangs." These words made Johnathan calm himself, so much that he no longer had any fear of being alone with Mavis.
The young vampire lifted her gaze back and wiped the tears away, "Are you serious?"
The human smiled, and that sweet gesture was worth a thousand words for the girl, who once again felt heartened; finally, she felt better with herself, and she let herself fall slowly to the ground, where she was taken into the arms of Johnathan. She was light as a feather.
The couple took a moment to look into their eyes, their faces then approaching slowly until their lips touched softly...
SPLAT!
The two retracted suddenly, shifting their gaze to the window from where that sound of something soft and squishy hitting on a glass came from.
SPLAT!
Again that sound. In fact, there was something smashed against the window. It was brown and had a muddy consistency.
"What's going on?" Johnathan said, "Who is throwing mud balls?"
Mavis stood up and walked to the window, intrigued.
SPLAT!
"Nobody is throwing mud balls, it's the mud that is climbing up the walls of the castle... they are clay golems..." The girl said, thoughtfully, "What's my father up to?"
The human smiled proudly, "And so... he has put my plan into practice" he said, while the mud men totally darkened the window.
"Your plan?" Mavis asked, raising an eyebrow.
"If you can't stop someone, give him what he wants and disappoint him, so he will leave you in peace forever." The boy said with a conceited air, "It will be enough to cover the castle with rock to make it look like a mountain."
"I hope it works. Because, to protect me, dad has faced the demon alone, without alerting the Order, and because of that a dragon and a spear are dead. My father is risking being condemned by the Order of the Dragons, but he was able to demonstrate his ability to manage the most critical situations and this hotel, as well as being a point of reference for all the monsters, maybe they could grant clemency." Mavis's voice trembled with concern.
Jonathan came up to her and put his arm around her neck, "Everything will be fine. He defeated Van Helsing, stopped a demon, and, above all, he has endured me for more than a month. There is nothing that your father can't do!" The boy concluded, chuckling, and he managed to make Mavis smile.
"Let's go see if my father needs us?" The girl asked, finally seeming to be back in a good mood.
Johnathan smiled, "Drac will be glad to see you feeling good. Let's go!"
The two went down to the bottom floor, all the windows now covered and the hotel completely dark without any lit lanterns. The only light that penetrated into the castle was that coming from the main entrance door.
The young couple rushed out. The sun was still high in the sky, but the few clouds remaining were sufficient to protect the sensitive skin of the two vampires, as if they too had wanted to help the old Count Dracula and his daughter.
Mavis and Jonathan looked around, amazed and happy to see that this idea, their last chance, was working well. The building was almost completely covered with clay, looking like a huge block of stone, but it was still barren of vegetation and that made it look too unnatural.
Shortly after, the two noticed a floating table that darted around the boundary walls. Above it was Dracula, with a bag over his shoulder, from which he took handfuls of magic sheets and threw them to the ground. They were seeds, and from the earth sprang many golems that walked slowly toward the castle, crossing over the boundary walls, now totally covered, and climbed on the walls up to the roof of the hotel. They walked past the two youngsters without showing any interest on them, seeming to have even less feelings than zombies.
"There are so many of them..." Jonathan said in awe. He brought his hand to one of them, but, before he could touch it, he was stopped by Mavis, who took his arm away.
"That's not a good idea..." The girl giggled.
He looked at her, worried, "Are they dangerous?"
The vampire smiled and shook her head slowly, "They are dangerous only if they are given the order to be dangerous."
"So why shouldn't I touch them?"
Mavis stood in front of him and looked into his eyes. Her gaze was mischievous, almost evil, so Johnny gulped, worried,
"Find out for yourself" She sighed between the teeth of her naughty smile, and then she pushed the boy, who fell against a golem.
The clay man lost his balance but didn't fall, and it also managed to sustain Jonathan. Then it kindly helped him get up on his feet.
"T-thanks, man ..." The boy replied, embarrassed, "Mavis, why did you do that?", but she was chuckling, amused. Initially, he did not understand why, but then he saw his hands, arms, legs... they were covered in mud. He looked one of those golems.
"Ah, is that so ..." Jonathan said, as if to take up a challenge, "Take that!" And he picked up a handful of clay from a golem and threw it against Mavis, hitting her right in the chest.
She crossed her arms and pouted, seeming seriously angry. Johnny approached timidly her, thinking that maybe he had exaggerated, but when he was close enough, she decapitated a golem that was passing next to her with her bare hands and splattered it on the boy's face like a cake in a clown's sketch. This was not a problem for the golem, since a new head grew back immediately. Instead, Johnathan stood still for a moment, still embarrassed to have fallen into that trap. In any case, the boy now did look like a mud golem.
The boy wiped his face with his hands, and when he opened his eyes he saw Mavis, who was laughing heartily, and he could not help but smile, satisfied to have driven out the concerns that oppressed the young vampire.
"Hey, you two! This is no time to relax!" Dracula exclaimed to them, but when the two looked up to him, he recognized them, and his mood changed radically, especially so when he realized that his daughter was having fun, "M-Mavy?" The Count asked in a voice choked by happiness and jumped off the table, flying rapidly towards his daughter and hugged her, not caring that he would probably be fouled.
"Dad, take it easy, you're choking me!" She complained, jokingly.
"H-how are you?" He continued, loosening the hug, but keeping his hands on her shoulders.
"I feel better right now, but..." The young vampiress looked down, "I'm sorry I didn't tell you the truth, it's just that-" but she was interrupted by her father, who gently put his finger on her lips.
"Don't worry honey-guts, you're okay now and that's what counts." Drac comforted her with a smile, but she was still a bit worried.
The golems were all in place and the castle was now unrecognizable.
"Ok guys, here we are." The Count said, and right after he whistled, as if to call someone.
A moment later a buzz was heard, like a group of motorcycles coming towards them. They were the witches, who, riding their brooms and arriving on site, landed in front of the hotel owner all in line and with the handles of brooms raised and kept in the rest position as if they were rifles.
"The golems that cover the hotel have been created with the earth of the lake's beaches, so they are rich with seeds that you must make sprout. Now go!" Dracula ordered.
"Yes sir!" The witches answered in unison at attention, doing a military salute, just after they returned to riding their brooms, and with feet their they delivered a blow to them, as if to press the kick-starter of an old motorcycle, and the bristles began to emit shining sparks. Immediately after that, they takeoff, one after another.
"Enjoy the show." Drac said to the couple.
They looked up and saw the maids fly in single file around the castle, launching their magic against it, which looked a lot like colored laser beams, not unlike those of Star Wars, sound effects included. But the most amazing thing was yet to come. From the ground that was hit, various plants and shrubs typical of that forest began to sprout and grow at an unnatural speed, and soon the difference between the natural part of the island and the recently created mountain became indistinguishable.
Finished their work, the witches flew into the hotel through the revolving door and the last in the row fired a magic beam on the ground in front of the door, crossing a moment before it was sealed by the climbing plants just grown on it.
"It was too darned cool!" Jonathan exclaimed, "I wish I had been able to use magic when my old roommate and I grew some plants in our basement. You can't imagine the electricity bills that came in because of us keeping the lamps lit day and night, but it was worth it."
"Enough chatter," Drac interrupted the boy, "We are not yet finished." He turned towards the long stone bridge, then he reached into his pocket and pulled out a handful of magic sheets similar to those he used to awaken the clay golems, but the writings in ancient Hebrew were slightly different, "We reach the forest, then I'll have to dismantle the bridge."
"Going into the forest?" Johnathan asked, "we are not going back into the castle?"
"No." The Count replied, curtly, "We have to keep an eye on the humans, and you're perfect for this task. You will infiltrate among them."
"I-infiltrate among them? As an undercover agent? And what if they discover me? What would they do to me?" The boy said, putting his hands through his hair in despair.
The vampire lowered his head and put a hand over his eyes, "How can they discover you? You are a human being, just like them... And Mavis will also be with you, anyways, so she will keep an eye on you."
"Me? I will come into direct contact with a group of humans?" Mavis asked, puzzledly pointing to herself and then, after a short wait, "Holy rabies! It's fantastic!" She exclaimed excitedly, jumping on her father, hugging him tightly.
"Yes, yes, but do not get your hopes up ..." He replied, falsely disinterested, then looked down and smiled to his daughter, "Mavy, you are grown up now. I trust you."
She reciprocated the smile, broke the hug, then took Jonathan's hand and began to cross the bridge, running. Drac followed, staying behind them and occasionally throwing one of his magical sheets to the ground.
There was a strong earthquake that nearly made Jonathan trip. He would have fallen if he had not been kept on his feet by the vampiress.
"Don't stop! Don't stop!" the Count urged them.
The two turned toward him and knew immediately what had caused the earthquake, which was followed by another; it was the bridge, taking life. There were already two stone golems behind the vampire and a third stood up, generating another earthquake.
"I said do not stop running!" Dracula insisted, almost upon them.
Meanwhile, the risen golems let themselves fall, dead weight sinking into the water of the lake, but in doing so they generated a tidal wave that spread towards them dangerously.
The three of them widened their eyes, worried; Mavis and Jonathan finally understood why Drac was in such a hurry. The girl took Johnny in her arms and ran as she had never run before, so much that he closed his eyes, scared. If they fell probably he would not get out of it alive.
At the end of the bridge, instead of going through the tunnel, the girl jumped directly on top the high cliff, where she stopped and put the human down, while the waves generated by the stone golem crashed loudly against the rocks.
The Count joined them shortly after in the form of a bat, turned back into human form, and looked his daughter, amazed by the speed she had reached, far superior to his. The days when they chased each other or did flight races and he intentionally let her win were over. Human blood and the demon that she carried within herself had given her powerful skills that Drac had taken centuries to get in such a short time. This embittered him a bit. To what extent would his daughter be able to control her new powers without awakening the demon? And then there was the addiction to human blood that she had decided to not resist; sure, there were non-violent ways to obtain human blood, but in case of prolonged abstinence, how long would little and inexperienced Mavis be able to hold off the bloodlust without becoming dangerous? Too many questions plagued the heart of the old count, and too many personal concerns weighed on him, adding up to all the other concerns about the humans, the safety of the hotel and the now imminent Council he already had. It was only two days until October 31st and the representatives of Order of the Dragon would probably arrive soon, not to mention the hundreds of monsters who had booked to attend at what would be the most important Council of all time.
No, Dracula could not allow this amount of monsters to come while humans were besieging the Hotel Transylvania. It would raise a ruckus and the count would lose trust and credibility, which were the only things he had in his defense.
"Dad?" Mavis exclaimed, giving a slight tug to his coat, "Shall we go?"
He smiled, and without another word he walked toward the sounds of humans, now close, until the three saw several figures move among the thick vegetation in the distance.
"Is that them?" The girl asked.
Jonathan and Dracula lowered themselves, hiding behind a bush. Mavis remained up, but the boy grabbed her hand and pulled her down.
"Sssshh!" Jonathan and Dracula said, "We mustn't let they see us, not yet." The boy continued, "We'll go behind their backs."
"Go, I'll stay here." Drac said.
The young couple went. They had no problems making their way, the forest seemed very thick, but many trees were actually trents who moved to their passage to facilitate their walk, and soon, they arrived within a short distance from humans.
"Here we are!" The man leading the group said, looking at his GPS, "We are about twenty yards away from the lake."
Jonathan and Mavis reached the group of human explorers, and had no problem mingling with them. In fact, although the couple were wearing clothes more suited for the city than for a hike in an unexplored woods , they were not so different from all the others. Most of them were dressed exactly like Jonathan, sweatshirt and jeans, someone else had a trekking suit with shoes suitable for rough terrain but with short shorts that had left their legs uncovered from thistles and insects, and others seemed to have prepared for an exploration of the Amazon forest, with huge backpacks full of food supplies, ropes, and climbing gear, so heavy that they were definitely the most exhausted. The disorganization was total and the only tool that was not lacking to anybody was cameras.
But there were four people in particular that caught Johnny's attention. Theywore the same black sweatshirt with a logo that read 'Monster Hunters', and were equipped with expensive cameras and other recording equipment. They posed as leaders of the expedition, with an air of someone who believed to have great experience; and saying that this time those fools had found a real monster lair. What they didn't know was that they were going to fail. Jonathan smiled at this thought.
"Hey, guys!" A woman kindly greeted them; she was not much older than Jonny; had red, curly hair, and was dressed in work clothes a bit too large for her, maybe those of a mechanic, gray with some engine oil stain and safety boots. A bizarre clothing for the place, but at least she was not full of bruises and cuts as many others.
Jonathan winced, while Mavis seemed excited to speak with a human girl, but neither of them replied.
"Can you speak English?" She asked, seeing the two a bit hesitant.
"Y-yes, of course!" Mavis said, still excited.
"Well, I'm not Romanian, but I flew here just after I learned that an old, unexplored castle had been discovered. However, I don't remember having seen you before. Let me guess ..." She continued, eyeing Jonathan and Mavis from head to foot. The boy gulped , "You are left behind because you slipped into a ditch, right? You're dirty!" She concluded, chuckling.
"Oh, well, yeah... It's just so..." Johnny replied, lying and scratching his head with a half-smile.
"Did you get hurt?" Asked a short and plump man dressed as a safari, "It happened to me, look at my pants!" he complained, indicating his ripped and dirty pants.
"No, no, everything ok..." The boy replied, and then he approached to Mavis, "Luckily that girl gave us a good excuse. Infiltration successful!" He said under his breath, and the vampire chuckled in amusement.
"People! Come and see!" A man exclaimed loudly, just ahead, attracting the attention of everyone, who started running towards him.
"Here we are, I hope this plan works..." Mavis said to the boy, her voice trembling. She was really upset.
He tightened his grip on her hand to make her feel his closeness and did a half smile. Despite him trying to instill in her a little courage, he too was worried as she was, then he nodded his head and the couple followed the group.
