Anzu stood before her dormitory, in shock. Wearing black leggings and a long and slightly loose pink blouse, the brunette was trying to fight back the tears.
Standing before her was Atem. He had on black jeans with a black shirt.
Biting her lower lip for a moment, Anzu asked. "Why? Why are you breaking up with me? Did you find someone else?"
Atem shook his head before answering. "No! I am just going through some stuff and I need some time alone to figure them out."
"Atem! I am suppose to be your best friend and girlfriend. Anything you are going through, I am here to help you through it." Anzu mentally told herself that she wasn't going to break down before him.
"I don't want to drag you down with the crap I am going through right now. With my parent's divorce..." Atem started.
Anzu cut him off. "I have known you your entire life Atem. Tell me the truth. Is it that girl, you met at the party the other day. I believe her name is Mana. You two seemed really close when I went there the other day."
Atem sighed. "Mana and I are really just friends."
"Friends don't usually behave like a couple." Anzu pointed out. "Am I not enough for you anymore? Just because I am duelling more and not spending as much time as we use to, you decide to find another girl to talk to, to be with, to kiss and make love to."
Atem reassured her. "I have never cheated on you. Mana has just been there for me more. I can talk to her about all the crap that is going on in my life."
"I am a phone call away." Anzu almost yelled. "Every time you needed me I dropped everything to be with you. I even sneaked out of my dorm after curfew to be with you. What? Just because I am not kissing the very ground you walk on, you decide to be with another girl."
"Anzu..." Atem wasn't sure what to say. "Things haven't been the same like they use to. I think it's for the best we separate so I can focus on my own path. I am dropping out of school to go pro. School isn't for me. Mana supports me in this decision and I know you would have tried to stop me. My Mom has already tired talking me out of it."
Anzu turned her back to them male. "So I am the last to know."
"I have already made up my mind." The male stated. "I still love you, Anzu and we can still be friends?"
Anzu snarled. "Friends? We can never go back to just being friends. You basically disregarded my feelings and saying that I am not good enough to be with you. That I am not good enough anymore for your love. If you loved me the way you said you did, you wouldn't have been interested in another girl romantically. You wouldn't be ending things with me. You wouldn't accept us just being friends. You would have come to me with your problems and doubts. You would have considered my feelings. Good bye Atem."
Atem took a step forward to touch Anzu but stopped. Backing away, he said. "Good bye Anzu."
Anzu turned her head to see Atem walking away. Tears fell as her heart broke.
Three Years Later
Anzu was sitting by the window of her apartment in Cairo, Egypt. She had on a blue blouse with a matching colour shorts.
The TV was on but she wasn't paying attention. It was the news and she only understood little of the native language.
The apartment was a little bare in terms of personal items. The brunette didn't bother to unpack when she came because as soon as she is finished with the tournament in Cairo she would be heading back to Domino for a few weeks before leaving again to New York for another tournament.
During her time at Domino University, Kaiba Crop began sponsoring her and with the increase in popularity when it comes to female duelling, Anzu began travelling move. Being the face of a duelling company also involved her doing promotions, ads and the face of any tournament Kaiba decides to throw.
Anzu sighed as she thought about Atem. She has come across Yugi and Joey in some of the tournaments she has played in. She has beaten Joey each time they play but has drawn with Yugi. The guys told her that Atem is doing well and seems happy. He comes home once in a while to visit them plus along with their mother and step father, Pegasus. His mother recently remarried and was happier now than in her previous marriage.
Yugi also mentioned that Atem was still with Mana and they were now engaged. The wedding was in a few weeks time. The news crushed Anzu as she still had strong romantic feelings for the male.
Hearing her phone ring, she saw Kaiba's name flashing on the screen.
Answering it, she spoke in her native language. "Hey Seto."
"Good night Anzu." Kaiba answered. "Enjoying Cairo so far?"
Anzu nodded. "Yeah. First time in Egypt and it's different from Domino."
"I heard your last interview. Your're English is improving greatly. Barely anyone can tell it isn't your first language." Kaiba complemented her. "Just call to say good luck in the finals tomorrow and wondering if you would reconsider you're decision to not participate in my Battle City Tournament. I know you didn't want to play because you didn't want to see Atem again. You know at some point in time you will have to see him again."
Anzu sighed. "I know. Alright. Sign me up. I have to face him sooner or later."
Seto smiled. "Well it will have to be later. Atem dropped out. Was told by his agent that he is at the Domino hospital."
Anzu's eyes widen. She opened her mouth but quickly closed it. She and Atem still had the same agent and he didn't tell her anything about the male's injury. "Okay."
"Seto, are you ready to go?" Anzu heard a woman said.
"Coming Kisara." Seto replied. "Anzu, I have plans so later."
"Later Seto." Anzu replied before they hung up.
Kisara was Seto's girlfriend. They met at one of the tournaments the male was hosting in Domino. Anzu had beaten her in the final but Kisara won a bigger prize when she won Kaiba's heart. It was like love at first sight. Anzu was happy for Seto because he finally found someone that made him happy and could give him a hundred percent of her heart. Before Kisara, Seto had feelings for Anzu but the brunette was still hung up on Atem.
Even to this day Anzu was still in love with Atem. She has never been with anyone else apart from him.
Sighing, she locked off the TV and headed to bed. She wanted to get enough rest for the final tomorrow.
