Anzu held her head down, trying to not cry. She didn't want to break the vow she made all those years ago which was to never cry over anyone ever again. To never cry over Atem again.
Atem gazed at Anzu as the hologram of Horakhty disappeared. This was the first time he had ever fused the three god cards together to defeat an opponent. Taking a step forward, the male soon stopped himself and looked away. He then said. "All is fair in love and duelling, right?"
Anzu turned around as tears fell. She nodded. "Yeah! I will keep up my end of the deal."
The female walked back to her house in the middle of the night. This was her first duelling lost both officially and unofficially and in return lost the biggest prize which was Atem's heart.
The male walked back to his room.
The Next Day
Atem laid in his bed, staring at the ceiling. He only had on a black shorts.
Clutching a cell phone in his hand, the male let out a soft sigh.
Hearing a knock from his bedroom door, Atem sat up before saying. "Come in."
Soon his mother entered the room. She had on a purple and white dress and had a box wrapped in a purple wrapping paper and a blue envelope.
She mentioned to the male while handing the gift to him. "This is from Anzu. She came by earlier to give you this before leaving."
"Leaving?" Atem raised a brow, taking the box. "Did she say where?"
Cecilia mentioned. "She is going back to Egypt for another duelling league. Her sponsor, Kabia Crop is throwing a tournament there and want her there as soon as possible to start promoting it."
Hearing, Pegasus calling her, Cecilia left the room.
Atem opened the gift to see a cartouche with his first name spelled out in an ancient language used in Egypt back when Pharaohs ruled the country. He whispered. "She remembered."
Atem had always been fascinated with the Egyptian history as his father's side of the family came from that country. The more he read, the more it captivated him. It had even influenced him to do history when he attended college. He had plans on going back to finish up his undergrad in history with a minor in business.
He then opened the envelope to see a card. It said, 'As promised, my wedding gift to you. Good bye Atem.'
Hearing someone clearing their throat, Atem looked up to see Yugi resting against the door. He had on a white shirt with blue shorts.
"Atem, what are you still doing here?" Yugi asked. "Shouldn't you be going after Anzu."
Atem glanced over to the brunette's room before looking back at his younger brother.
Yugi continued. "You know, I have never seen you truly happy unless Anzu is with you. Even when you are duelling, it's like you lost the fire and spark you had for the game and only doing it because it's job that pays you well. That's goes for Anzu as well. Whenever I watched her duelling on TV or online, she doesn't have the passion for it like she had whenever she was with you or duelling in front of you. It seemed like you were her passion or the driving force to be the best in the game. What Mom didn't tell you is that Anzu had mentioned that she isn't coming back. She said it would break her heart even more seeing you with someone else. After she finishes up the duelling league, Anzu said she will be moving to New York permanently. Kabia will be giving her the keys to one of his apartments over there. Guess that's one of the perks of being one of the company's biggest stars."
Yugi checked the time before leaving the room to get ready to meet his girlfriend.
Anzu was sitting in the airport lobby, waiting on her flight to Cairo. The brunette had on a blue mini skirt, black blouse, blue jacket and matching colour knee length high heel boots. She also had on black shades, to cover her red eyes.
She didn't want people to see that she was crying and ask her questions about what happened. After her duel with Atem, depending accepted Kabia's offer to participate in a new duelling tournament. The only reason she came back to Domino was to be near Atem and hopefully be with him once more. After he beat her, Anzu couldn't deal with the only person she had ever loved and been with marry Mana and spend the rest of their days doing things Anzu wished Atem had only done with her.
'Anzu, you were stupid and selfish. How could you duel Atem and expect that if you win he would leave his fiancee to be with you. If he didn't love her, he wouldn't have purposed to her in the first place. He was the one that dumped you in college. If he wanted to be with you then he would stayed with me.' The brunette thought, placing her hands onto her head. As she saw the tears fall to her skirt, she continued. 'I didn't think I had any tears left. How pathetic am I? To be crying over getting rejected. It's my fault why we broke up in the first place. I wasn't there for him when he needed me in the first place. How did I survive without Atem the first time? I can't think straight, my heart aches. I don't think I can survive spending the rest of my life without him in it. I know I can't survive the rest of my life without Atem's love and touch.'
Hearing that the flight from Domino to Cario was now boarding, Anzu slowly got up. While walking to the area to board the plane, the brunette was thinking of ways to numb her feelings, to numb the pain she felt and to block out the thoughts of how to leave this world so she would never have to continue living without Atem by her side.
She soon felt someone place their hands onto her shoulders. The person then placed their forehead onto the back of her head.
Anzu didn't need to turn around to know who the person was. She could pick him out by his scent. The scent that had intoxicated her for so many years. When they had broken up, she had kept a bottle of his cologne. Whenever she had missed him, she would spray it onto her pillow and it gave her ease. It had become a daily routine for her to do that. It helped her to sleep at night. Anzu thought. 'I am so pathetic.'
Finding the strength to speak without crying, she asked. "What are you doing here, Atem?"
"You know why, Anzu." Atem bluntly said. "You know I came for you."
Anzu felt like she wasn't hearing right. She felt like she was dreaming. 'The lack of sleep is finally getting to me. Wake up, Anzu.'
She hit herself on one of her cheeks and tried to move. The male stopped her from moving.
"This isn't a dream." Anzu softly spoke.
"Please Anzu." Atem sounded like he was pleading. "Please come back to me after you kick butt in the tournament."
"Why?" Anzu wanted to hear the words from Atem's mouth. "Why should I put myself through that suffering again? I know I can't handle you being with someone else. I can't handle the thought of you being with another person like you were with me. If the thought alone drives me crazy, just imagine how I would react when I see you and Mana displaying public affection. Just imagine how I will be when you two are making love. I can't handle it Atem."
"You don't have to, Anzu." Atem reassured her. "I called Mana earlier to call off the wedding. Last night I wanted so badly to take you into my arms, kiss you and make love to you. I didn't do that because I wanted to close one chapter before starting another one. I wanted to end things with Mana first before telling you that our feelings are the same. I never stopped loving you, Anzu. I have watched all of your duels and cheering you on because I wanted to see you in action. There have been so many times when I wanted to call you, to see you and tell you that I never stopped loving you. I was scared... I was scared that you wouldn't want me back after I had stupidly ended things with you. When I heard rumours that you were with Kaiba and saw pictures of you two together, I thought you had moved on so I purposed to Mana to officially move on. When I found out that Kaiba was nothing more than your sponsor I began to have some hope again. I had began to hope again but wasn't sure how to go about ending things with Mana or if you even still had feelings for me. Last night when you challenged me to a duel for my heart, I knew that no matter who won I couldn't continue lying to Mana anymore. I couldn't continue to hurt the both of us. Anzu, please come back to me when you win the tournament."
Anzu moved away from Atem and turned around to see the male wearing a black shirt with navy blue pants, matching jacket and black shoes.
She quickly wrapped her arms around his neck. Atem embraced her waist before she said. "I promise to come back to you, Atem. I have missed and love you so much."
Atem quickly captured Anzu's lips with his and they shared a passionate kiss.
Hearing the final call for people to board the flight to Egypt, the two eventually parted. Anzu boarded the flight with a smile on her face.
Atem watched till her flight left before going home.
Years Later
Sitting in a packed arena, Atem was seen in the front row with a little boy in his lap. The boy was almost a year old and had Atem's hairstyle and skin completion. His eyes however were blue like his mother's own.
The male announcer called out as the arena's lights dimmed. "Ladies and Gentlemen it is time for the final of the Domino Women's Battle City Tournament. On the left, the first finalist is Vivian Wong!"
A spotlight shined onto a female with black hair, light complexion and green colour eyes. She had on a yellow dress with red high heel shoes.
There were a few cheers in the crowd.
The announcer continued. "On the right is our defending champion and Queen of Games Anzu Mutou!"
The spotlight shined onto the brunette who had on a blue jeans shorts with a white blouse and blue jacket. On her feet were blue knee length high heel shoes.
A longer cheer was heard for Anzu with Atem being the loudest.
He said to his and Anzu's son. "Say go Mommy!"
"Mommy!" The baby spoke jumping up and down on his father's lap upon seeing his mother.
Anzu saw Atem and blew a kiss towards him and their child.
After she won the tournament, Anzu returned to Atem in Domino where he purposed to her the same night of her return.
They had a small wedding with close family and friends before Atem went back to college. After he had finished school, the male started duelling again before Anzu became pregnant.
With female duelling becoming just as popular as the men's own, Atem and Anzu could continue playing the game both were so passionate about and earn a good income from it.
As the two females activated their duel disk, Anzu smiled knowing that she was going to beat Vivian's butt quickly. She wanted to finish it quickly so that she and Atem could go on a date. She wanted to tell her husband that in a few months time they have another member in the family. This time a girl.
Anzu locked eyes with Atem. The male saw the passion in her eyes. The passion she lacked when she wasn't with him.
Atem blew her back a kiss before giving her a thumbs up. He had faith in Anzu's abilities and knew she could beat her opponent with ease.
The duel soon began and cheers filled the arena.
