CHAPTER 2: REACQUAINTED

As Dominick was walking into Joe's Café for a meal before heading to Cobra's house, he spotted his ex-girlfriend Mallory seated at a booth enjoying her meal. Dominick was hesitant to make his presence known with her being there. Mallory had always held out hope that Dominick would "come to his senses" and welcome her back into his life. But he was with Cobra now and they were happy. And even before hooking up with Cobra, Dom was already over Mallory.

As he grabbed his meal, he went to another booth so Mallory couldn't see him. He was almost scot-free when a rather loud and obnoxious kid went to greet Dominick.

"DOMINICK, WHASSUP, DUDE!" the kid yelled. "WOW IT IS GREAT TO SEE YOU HERE!"

"Not so loud, Kevin!" said Dominick, hoping Mallory wouldn't look over. "Just getting something to eat and going to Sylvia's afterwards."

"HAVE YOU MET THE NEW GIRL MALLORY, YET? WOW! WHAT A LOOKER, EH?"

"I know her, Kevin! We used to date back in Leeville. Now please knock it down a few notches!"

"YOU KNOW HER?! THAT'S SO AWESOME! HEY, YOU TWO SHOULD CATCH UP!"

"No, Kevin, you don't understand-"

"HEY MALLORY, MY FRIEND HERE SAYS HE KNOWS YOU!"

"Good grief!"

"Hi, Dominick," said Mallory, seeing her ex. A smile came across her face as she looked at him.

"I'LL LEAVE YOU TWO TO CATCH UP!" said Kevin.

"THANKS A HEAP, YOU BLOCKHEAD!" retorted Dominick.

"Care to join me?" offered Mallory. Dominick's plan to avoid Mallory was ruined, so he figured might as well. At least he could tell her about Cobra and how they were dating.

"So who would have thought you and I at the same school?" Mallory began.

"I know, right?" said Dominick, playing nice. "So, when did you move here to Sparkyville?"

"Last week. My dad got a new job at Gray Industries."

"I know the daughter of the owner. Her name is Violet."

"Oh yeah, I met her. I told her my dad was going to work for hers. Then she went on about how her father was a better driver than mine, or something like that. Anyway, how have you been?"

"I've been fine. Made a bunch of new friends here. I'm even dating this wonderful girl named Sylvia. Sylvia Martinez."

"She's in my math class. So she's your current girlfriend, eh?"

"Yes." Dominick waited to see Mallory's reaction.

"That's great, Dom," she said. Dominick couldn't believe it. She seemingly accepted that he was dating someone else. "I know I messed up with you, and I just wanted to let you know that I am happy that you are happy. But, I just hope even if we couldn't be boyfriend/girlfriend again, could we at least be friends?"

Dominick looked at his ex. She seemed sincere in her offer. He felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulder. Finally he said, "Sure, Mallory. We can be friends."

"Thank you so much, Dom. Well I better be going. Got a ton of homework to do. I'll see you at school on Monday."

"See you later, Mal." And she left for home. Dominick breathed a sigh of relief. His ex-girlfriend had accepted that they would not be together, at least in his mind. So he finished his meal and went to meet up with Cobra. Unbeknownst to him, Mallory hung back and watched him leave Joe's.

"You'll be mine again, Dominick Kendall," she said to herself. "You will see I'm the only girl for you!"
