Chapter 9: The Two Gods

Sorry for not updating for over 2 weeks, but I was sick. With the sickness known as writer's block. I'm better now *coughs*.

"Now, Bane, attack!" The cloaked boy cried.
As the other boy countered, a third person watched from on top of a building.
"Uuugh…" I groaned as I rubbed my eyes. I had stayed up for most of the night practicing combos and strategies with my deck. Yuzu hadn't woken up yet, and I was pretty worried. My duel disk beeped. A new message from Yuya.
"Hey, Thomas. Sorry if I woke you up, but there's some guy at You Show who's looking for you. He says it's important."
"Crap!" I shouted as I realized I was late for "school". I ran out the door. Then ran back in to grab my deck. And ran back out.
"Hey… Yuya… sorry I'm… late." I gasped. I really should exercise more.
"Hey Thomas. This is Ethan. He's the guy who's looking for you." Oh my god. Another counterpart! I am so sick of this! Ethan had my face, but spiked black hair, kind of like Chazz, but darker. He wore a coat like Jack Atlas's, but gold and silver instead of white and blue.
"Pleasure to meet you, Thomas. I've heard many things about you."
"So… um…" Sora interrupted. "Are you two twins?"
"Nope. Never met him before." I answered.
"Okay…" Yuya responded.
"So, Ethan, why were you looking for me?"
Ethan leaned over and whispered in my ear. "Because we're in the same boat." Louder, so everyone could hear he announced he had heard of my dueling abilities (seriously, why did he use so many big words?) and wanted to enroll at You Show. I just stood silently. Did that mean he was from Earth, too?
"So, Thomas," Ethan said, "I challenge you to a duel! I want to test my skills against you!"
"Ok…" I muttered. I needed to grill him after this.
"Thomas, you don't seem very excited…" Yuya said.
"Oh, I'm just, uhh, worried about Yuzu!"
"So am I. Maybe a good duel could take our minds off it for a bit."
"Okay, I guess."
Ethan and I walked into the action field.
"Oh, one more thing!" Ethan cried. "May I use one of my field spells as the action field?"
"If the field spell registers, you can use it!" Yuya shouted. Shuzo was looking after Yuzu, so Yuya was in charge for now.
"Okay then! Action field activate! Earthbound Geoglyph!" The field around us turned into asphalt and concrete. In the background, crumbling buildings loomed. Suddenly, purple fire burst from the ground, surrounding us and forming patterns.
"Let's duel!"
Thomas: 4000
Ethan: 4000
"I'll take the first move!" Ethan shouted, running through the maze-like spirals to look for action cards. "I activate the effect of Ascator, Dawnwalker in my hand! By discarding Earthbound Greater Linewalker, I can summon him from my hand and Fire Ant Ascator from my deck!" Fire Ant Ascator was a red and the size of a person, and Dawnwalker was a muscular man with a staff that had a sun carved on top. Fire Ant Ascator (LV 3. DEF 1300) Ascator, Dawnwalker (LV 5. DEF 1500).
"Now, I use the effect of Supay, Duskwalker in my hand to discard Call Of The Reaper and summon her from my hand and Supay from my deck!" Supay was a small demon made of wood with horns, and Duskwalker was an *ahem* attractive woman in a skirt with a staff with an empty space on top. Supay, Duskwalker (LV 5. DEF 1900) Supay (LV 1. DEF 100)
"Also, Supay and Ascator are both tuners! So I tune them with their respective 'walkers to synchro summon! Blazing flames rise on the horizon! Come forth and burn away the darkness! Synchro summon! Sun Dragon Inti (LV 8. ATK 3000)!"
Dawnwalker hopped on Ascator, which turned into green rings that Dawnwalker jumped through. From behind a building, a four-headed dragon emerged. It had a golden sun face in the center of its chest, and no legs or arms. It had a white and gold color scheme.
"Creeping shadows rise on the horizon! Come forth and snuff out the light! Synchro summon! Moon Dragon Quilla (LV 6. ATK 2500)!
Quilla looked exactly like Inti, but with a blue and white color scheme, and a blue frowning moon face in its chest.
"I end my turn."
Damn, that was a strong field. Guess I'd just have to break it! "My turn! Draw! I activate Pot Of Greed to draw two cards! Now, with the scale 3 Amorphage Greed and the scale 5 Amorphage Gluttony, I set the pendulum scale! Swing, my pendulum, and carve an arc to our future! Pendulum summon! Come! Amorphage Wrath (LV 4. ATK 1650. SC 3) and Amorphage Pride (LV 4. ATK 1750. SC 3)! Now, I tribute both of them to tribute summon! Great titan, creator of sin! Come forth and bring devastation to this world! Amorphage Goliath (LV 8. ATK 2750. SC 5)!"
Everyone started cheering.
"Now, I activate the field spell, Amorphous Persona, so Goliath gains 300 attack!"
Goliath (ATK 2750+300=3050)
"Now, attack Inti! And, with the effect of Gluttony in my pendulum zone, you can't use monster effects!"
Ethan ran into a building as Goliath readied a blast of fire.
"I activate Evasion! It negates your attack!"
"I set one card and end my turn."
"My turn! Draw! I activate the action card High Dive! So Inti gains 1000 attack!"
Inti (ATK 3000+1000=4000
"Now, attack Goliath!"
"I activate the trap card, Amorphage Lysis! So all your monsters lose 400 attack and defense because I control four Amorphage cards!"
Inti (ATK 4000-400=3600) Quilla (ATK 2500-400=2100)
"The attack continues!"
I spotted an action card in a pile of rubble and dove for it.
"I activate Miracle! Goliath survives and the damage is halved!"
Thomas: 4000-225=3775
"I end my turn."
"My turn! Draw! Since I can't tribute a monster without being wide open, Greed and Gluttony are destroyed!"
Inti (2600+200=2800) Quilla (ATK 2100+200=2300)
I saw an action card on top of a fallen building and climbed up to get it.
"Battle! Goliath attacks Quilla!"
"When Quilla is attacked, I gain life equal to half the attack of the attacking monster!"
Ethan: 4000+1575-950=4625
"I end my turn."
"My turn! I activate Pot Of Greed. I hope you know how it works."
Ethan started laughing.
"It's here! I activate the field spell Earthbound Geoglyph! Then I activate the effect of Earthbound Greater Linewalker in my hand! Since I have a synchro monster on my field and in my graveyard, I can summon him!"
Greater Linewalker (LV 8. ATK 2900-200=2700)
"Now, I can use his effect to add 1 Earthbound Immortal monster from my deck to my hand! Now, with the effect of Geoglyph, I can tribute summon an Earthbound Immortal monster by tributing one synchro monster! I tribute Inti to tribute summon! Great creator, use your power to shape the path to my victory! Tribute summon! Earthbound Immortal Wiraqocha Rasca (LV 10. ATK 100-200=0)!"
Inti disappeared into a pillar of white light. As the pillar faded, only a massive stone heart remained floating in the air. The heart began to beat, and it unfolded to reveal a massive black and magenta condor, bigger than the tallest skyscrapers.
"Wait, that monster only has 100 attack! What gives?" Questioned Sora.
"When Rasca is summoned, I can shuffle up to three cards from my field to my deck, then my opponent is forced to discard an equal amount of cards, and Rasca gains 1000 attack for each! So by shuffling my field spell and my Linewalker, I can make you discard your hand, and Rasca gains 2000 attack!"
Rasca (ATK 0+2000-100=1900)
"Normally, when there's no field spell active Rasca would be destroyed, but since an action field counts as a field spell…"
"Oh no."
"Next, I activate Return Of The Dragon Lords! With this, I can summon Inti from the grave!"
Inti (ATK 3000-200=2800)
"Inti attacks Goliath!"
Ethan: 4625-250=4375
"When Inti is destroyed, the monster that destroyed him is destroyed, and you take damage equal to half its attack!"
Thomas: 3775-1575=2200
Rasca (ATK 1900+100=2000)
"And now, Rasca, attack directly with polar star eclipse!"
Rasca dove towards me, blasting me backwards into some rubble with the force of the attack.
Thomas: 2200-2000=200
"I end my turn."
"Thomas is in big trouble. He's barely holding on while Ethan has even more life points than he started with. Also, he has no cards in his hand or on his field." Yuya observed.
"Do you think I don't know that?!" I snapped. "My turn! Draw!"
"Since Inti and Quilla are in the graveyard, Inti's effect resurrects Quilla during your standby phase."
"I… I end my turn." What was with my losing streak?! If I lost here, I might not be able to make it into the tournament! Wait… I saw an action card lying near a line of purple fire. I ran over and grabbed it. Yes!
"My turn, draw! I attack with Rasca! End this duel!"
"I activate the action card Great Escape! It ends the battle phase."
"I end my turn."
"My turn! Draw! I activate a second Amorphous Persona, destroying the first! The action card on the ground next to me started… glowing? Now, I activate the action card Quick Rebirth! It summons Goliath back from the extra deck until the end phase! Now… using Persona's effect in the graveyard, I can ritual summon by tributing Goliath! Come forth! The star of this show! Amorphactor Pain, The Imagination Dracoverlord (LV 8. ATK 2950)!"
My ace monster appeared on the field. I climbed on it, and flew off to look for action cards. I grabbed one from on top of a building.
"I activate Riryoku! This halves Quilla's attack and gives the lost attack to Pain!"
Quilla (ATK 2500/2=1250) Pain (ATK 2950+1250=4200)
"Now I activate High Dive! This gives Pain 1000 more attack!"
Pain (ATK 4200+1000=5200)
"Now, attack!"
As Pain flew towards Quilla, I jumped off and grabbed an action card from the windowsill of a building. Unfortunately, I forgot gravity wasn't a thing, causing me to bounce off the sill a floor below, then fall another floor and land on the ground.
"Ouch… I activate… gasp… Life Steal. It halves… my god it hurts… Quilla's attack… and adds it to Pain's. Also… Quilla's effect is negated."
Quilla (ATK 1250/2=625) Pain (ATK 4200+625=4825)
Ethan: 4375-4200=175
"So what! Quilla's effect revives Inti! I will win next turn!"
Goliath came back to me, an action card clutched in its jaws.
"Please be good, please be… gasp… good. Yes! I activate *ouch* Flame Ball. You take 200 damage."
Ethan: 175-200=0
"Thomas! You did it!" Yuya shouted as the action field faded.
"Medic…" I responded, pulling myself into a sitting position.
Ethan walked up to me. "Nice duel." He pulled me up.
"Thanks. You were good too. Now, about that medic…"
Apparently, I was fine, I only had the wind knocked out of me and some bruises. How are anime characters so resilient? And why was that card glowing? I don't think there was an action card that did what that card did. Was Ethan from earth too? What time was lunch? My duel disk rang.
"'Ello?"
"Thomas, this is Yuzu. I just woke up, and you have some explaining to do!" I could see she looked pissed and was holding her fan.
"Oh fuuuu-"
