This story does not perfectly follow Season 12, but this story does happen during that season. Please review! Thanks!
Aurora dodged the swing of the angel blade by a hair, her blouse ripping in the process. She backed up, her own blade in hand, but she was injured, her strength weakening. She had tried to heal herself, but from all the other times she'd done it in the last 2 hours, she was too weak to do it again. She felt her back hit the wall behind her and she was forced to shuffle to the side before her attackers blade ended her.
"You will comply," he demanded. Aurora shook her head as she let out a sardonic laugh. She had been a pawn in the politics of heaven for far too long. Angels were supposed to care for humanity, help it, nurture it. But, much too often in the recent years, too many angels had been hungry for power with all the archangels gone. And with Lucifer's spawn on the way, the turmoil in heaven continued to get more and more intense. She refused to continue being a part of the corruption in ranks.
"I'd rather be human," she spit back, dodging another slash of the angel blade.
"That can be arranged," he dove forward, catching Aurora off guard for just a split second and slashed her across her abdomen. She screamed in pain, the ringing of her grace deafeningly loud in her own ears. She stumbled back, realizing she had to leave before she either lost her grace or was killed for rebelling against her faction. Using the last of her strength, she flew from heaven, the force of her wings blasting back her attacker as she headed for Earth. The wind stung her wounds, and she felt herself losing control of her speed and flight as she soared towards the Earth. Suddenly, things went black and she felt herself slam into the ground.
Shock waves cascaded across the field, causing a low magnitude earthquake. Aurora woke within a minute of her less-than-graceful landing, trying to stand. Pain tore through her stomach, and she clutched her injury, blood seeping through her fingers. Damn vessel, she thought as she fell back to the ground. She leaned back into the crater she had created in the field, trying to catch her breath and apply pressure on her wound. She was too badly injured to heal herself now. She needed to find another angel on Earth to help her. She only knew of one who would offer her assistance.
"Castiel, I need you," she whispered through her pain, groaning as she felt more blood seep through her fingers.
Back in the bunker, the alarms went off, just like they did the night that angels fell from the heavens. Dean, Sam, and Cass looked at each other, then felt the ground shake and tremble.
"Was that an earthquake?" Sam asked, concern on his face as the shock waves subsided.
"Sure as hell felt like it," Dean ground out as the alarms ceased. "What happened?"
"An angel has fallen," Cass stated, his gaze shifted towards the ceiling of the bunker, apparently hearing something. "She needs my help."
"Who needs your help?" Dean demanded, taking two steps towards his friend.
"Aurora," Cass stated as if Dean and Sam would know who he was talking about.
"Who?" Sam asked, reading the same confusion he felt on Dean's face.
"She's a friend. Not much of a warrior, but more of a peace keeper in heaven. I must find her. She called to me."
Dean grabbed the keys to the impala and snagged his jacket off the back of his chair. "Where is she?" He asked, leading the way.
"Not far. That earthquake was her." Cass, Sam and Dean made their way out of the bunker and to the impala. Cass directed Dean where to go, feeling Aurora's essence growing stronger and stronger. He knew that if Aurora had left heaven, that she had a damn good reason. Within twenty minutes, Dean pulled the impala to a stop just outside of a corn field where all of the stalks were flattened to the ground.
"Must be the place," Dean commented, turning Baby off as the men got out of the car. Dean and Sam walked around to the back of Baby, opening the trunk.
"You don't nee guns, you'll be safe with Aurora," Cass stated, looking confused as to why they thought guns would be necessary.
"If an angel just escaped heaven and asked for your help, Cass, others may follow." Dean put his gun in his waistband before grabbing an angel blade. Sam did the same.
"Where is she?" Sam asked Cass as they made their way into the corn field.
"Somewhere in this direction," Cass nodded further into the field. They slowly progressed through the field, looking around as they made their way to the assumed landing site for the angel. After a couple of minutes, they heard a woman screech in pain, along with the familiar ringing of angel grace. "We must hurry," Cass said and the men ran towards the sound. Coming upon the crater, the scene before them was bloody. A man, likely an angel, stood above Aurora with a bloody angel blade in his hand. Aurora was bleedy from her cheek, her stomach, her arms, and it seems likely that wasn't the extent of her injuries.
"Hey," Dean called to the assailant angel.
"Leave human, this doesn't have anything to do with... ah, Castiel. Of course she would call another traitor to her aid."
"Heath," Cass called to the other angel authoritatively. "Leave Aurora alone."
"You see," Heath replied as he slowly ran his angel blade across her other cheek, her light peeking out, causing Aurora to grit her teeth in pain. "She must return to heaven. We must make an example for all those who wish to follow Joshua."
"I can't let you do that," Cass' angel blade slid down his sleeve and into his hand, readying him for the fight he knew was coming. Dean and Sam pulled their angel blades out in a show of unity. Heath laughed, stepping away from Aurora.
"Wait there," he said to her, as if they were being interrupted. "This will only take a second."
Readying for a battle, Cass and Heath began to circle around each other, eyes locked. Without warning, Heath lunged for Cass, and Dean and Sam both leapt to help. Aurora, laid back into the dirt, hoping that Cass and these two humans could fight off Heath. She certainly couldn't, but she also wasn't much of a fighter. Her job in heaven had been peacekeeper. While she knew the basics of fighting, she was no match for him.
The clang of the angel blades rang through the air, along with the occasional thud of someone being thrown by celestial powers. Aurora tried to sit up to see what was happening, but it was no use. When Heath had landed next to her on Earth, he had sliced her stomach open once again. She knew she wouldn't make it much longer. Suddenly, heavenly light flooded the area before all grew dark again. Aurora looked up to see the most beautiful human staring down at her. Even in the dark, she could make out his strong features, stubbly jaw, and piercing green eyes.
"Cass," Dean called out, looking over his shoulder to where Cass stood over Heath's corpse. "She's not looking so good." Cass rushed over to Aurora and she attempted to sit up again and Dean put a hand on her shoulder. "Don't move."
Aurora sighed, blinking back her pain before Cass made it to her side. "Hi Castiel," she said shyly. She was embarrassed for Castiel to see her in such a state.
"Aurora, what is going on?" He asked while assessing the extent of her wounds.
"Oh, you know, the usual celestial mind games. I refused to pick sides"
"Your wounds are pretty bad. This is going to hurt," Cass warned Aurora and she nodded before closing her eyes, bracing for the pain. Cass laid his hand over the worst injury to her stomach and his hand began to glow a soft white. Aurora groaned in pain, gritting her teeth as she felt Castiel undoing all the harm that Heath had done. After nearly a minute, Aurora was fully healed and Cass slumped over, Dean catching him.
"Cass!" Dean called to his friend, worry etched on his face.
"I'm fine, just exhausted."
"We should go. Heath may not have been the only angel on his way after me," Aurora stated, standing and helping Dean with Castiel.
Dean grabbed 4 beers from the fridge and made his way back to the library where Cass, Sam, and Aurora were sitting. They made it back to the bunker without any trouble, which surprised them all. Dean opened each bottle, handing them out one by one. When he got to Aurora, she looked up into his eyes, making his heart rate quicken. Her eyes were the brightest shade of blue he had ever seen, almost as though her angelic light was shining through her irises.
"Thank you," she spoke softly. Dean simply nodded before sitting on top of the table next to her and Cass.
"Andrew must be mad," Cass said in disbelief.
"I agree. That is why I had to flee."
"What did I miss?" Dean asked, unsure of why Andrew had lost his marbles.
"Apparently there is a faction of angels who want to use Lucifer's spawn for their own agenda." Sam recapped the last minute of conversation.
"Are they insane?" Dean was angry. Who could possibly think that was a good idea. "That child is evil. Pure evil."
"And they expected you to recruit to their cause," Castiel deduced. Given Aurora's history as the peacekeeper, the mediator, she was very influential. Over the millenia, angels had used her to help their agendas, knowing if she would join, others would see this as the righteous path.
"Yes. And when I refused, they attempted to force their will on me." She sighed sadly, looking down at her untouched beer in her hands. She slowly lifted the beer to her lips, tilting the bottle back and taking a sip. After contemplating it for a moment, she tipped it back again, downing the entire thing. Dean and Sam sat there slack jawed, shocked that this seemingly innocent angel would just knock back an entire beer in a matter of 15 seconds.
"Thirsty?" Dean asked sarcastically.
"Yes. I'd love another, please," Aurora smiled at him and handed him the empty bottle. In shock at her honest response, he simply handed over his own bottle, which he had yet to drink from.
"We're going to need more beer," Sam joked as Aurora downed another beer. Dean turned to Cass, who was attempting to hold in laughter.
"What?" Aurora asked, realizing that the Winchester's were staring at her in shock.
"Most people don't drink their whole beer in one drink," Dean commented.
"Or two in less than a minute," Sam commented with a laugh.
"Oh," Aurora said, shyly looking over to Castiel for guidance. He just shrugged. "Well, it was very delicious." Sam smirked at that comment, taking a sip of his own beer.
"Not going to argue with you there," Dean said, getting up to fetch himself a beer.
Dean stumbled sleepily out of his room and into the bathroom. Rubbing his eyes, he yawned and stopped dead in his tracks as he entered the bathroom. Aurora was standing there, just starting to wrap a towel around herself, her hair damp from the shower. Dean covered his eyes, turning to the side and muttered an apology under his breath.
"Good morning Dean," Aurora said softly, not even phased by the fact that she had given him a brief show. Why does she have to be so fucking hot? Dean cursed his attraction to her. She had long, straight blonde hair, bright blue eyes, and an amazing body. She definitely picked her vessel well.
"Morning," he said gruffly, trying to get a hold of his heart rate. She smiled and exited the bathroom, heading to the room they had given her, even though she didn't sleep. Dean roughly rubbed a hand down his face before heading to the shower, planning to take a COLD shower.
