Endeavor was fuming. His son appeared to be entering his "rebellious phase" early. And that only added upon the constant praise the masses shot towards Almight! That insufferable egotist truly made his blood boil.
He was brought out of his rage temporarily by the ringing of the bell. Curious whom would disturb the number 2 hero at this time of night, he decided to answer personally.
Pulling the door open he was confused to see a child. The kid was skinny, with Black hair wearing black slacks and a red hoody. Silently he stood there glaring at the child.
"Hello!" The young man let out as he stepped back an inch.
"Child" Endeavor began slowly, "Who are you and why are you here." While curious, his voiced exuded sheer cold.
"Sir, my name is Timothy Drake." He squeaked out as quickly, but respectfully as he could.
Endeavor's face had a showing of puzzlement for a split second. Why would a child who was clearly American raised, seem to speak high school level Japanese?
The boy continued, "I'm here…because you need to… become the symbol of peace." He let out hesitantly.
Endeavor groaned. Yet again, a reminder of that super strong showman outclassing him.
Done with this conversation, he slammed the door in Timothy's face.
…
"Well. That could have gone better." Timothy thought looking up at the door. He had spent months preparing for this, and it was over.
He frowned on his way back to the train station, wondering what to do now. Endeavor was the only option.
After a half hour walk, he came out of his stupor as he approached the train. He couldn't help but laugh at how humorous this was in concept. A quirckless child telling the number 2 hero how to be a hero. Of course, he didn't even get a chance to do that.
Sitting in the train he opened his favorite book. "The continuing legacy." Most found his fascination with this book odd. A 12-year-old kid who read mostly mystery and textbooks reading the memoir of a dead billionaire? That would be quite odd. But then again, so was Tim.
While fascinated with heroes, Tim hadn't thought of becoming one for years. He had however put his mind to the mysteries surrounding them. One of his favorites being the quirk somehow passed down otherwise unrelated heroes. His true favorite though, was a little different.
About a year earlier, Tim had started researching vigilantes. While there had only been one widely known vigilante for years, there had been many more nearly a fifty years ago. The Arrow, Huntress, and Question were only a small number of them. But none of them compared to the Batman.
And in researching the Batman, Tim found many dates that had him puzzled. Occasionally, when researching a date, he found articles describing the late Bruce Wayne. This occurrence quickly became more and more frequent, until it seemed like he was researching Wayne himself.
And that connection eventually drove Tim to looking into Wayne's autobiography. That was when he understood. That was when he discovered that Bruce Wayne was the Batman.
It began with dates. Every date mentioned in the book coincided with a sighting of Batman. They also seemed to lack any photos, only having a few quotes from close associates. It fit with other vigilantes being rich. Oliver Queen and Ted Cord had both also been rich businessmen turned vigilante.
This identity of course led to others. The two Robins, Batgirl, and Batwoman were only a few who were related to Wayne in some manner.
But that wasn't the only Secret Tim knew. He knew that Almight, the number one hero, was dying. His feats of strength and their frequency began lowering almost a year ago, after a hiatus from the public eye. Knowing that, his split with Sir Nighteye seemed to indicate a disagreement about something, probably Almight continuing heroics with his condition worsening.
And without Endeavor there to pick up the slack, Almight's death, or preferably retirement, will signal villains to flock back to the open. And there's nothing Tim could do about it.
He focused again on his book. He seemed to be in a part focusing on Wayne's college courses. Apparently, he was tutored by a woman named Shiva. She apparently had a quirk that slowed aging. Tim assumed that she did not really teach calculus.
Tim smirked, imagining if he could only find this woman, and have her train someone who could become a hero in Almight's place. But without more information, she would be almost unreachable.
Clearing his mind of these thoughts he reminded himself once again why he was doing this. The world needs to be inspired. It needed someone, something to believe in. And without Almight, someone else needed to step up. Now he only had one last option.
Steeling himself, he began planning how to talk to of the two richest men in the world
