Chapter 1: Today's the Day
"It's hard to believe that it's been almost two years since this began." Tim thought as he stepped through the gates for UA"s exam. He was early, the only other arrival was a well-built boy with black hair in a leather jacket.
"Bit angsty, but he seems strong. This won't be easy." Tim analyzes.
Slowly, more and more people enter and sit down.
There was another black-haired kid who didn't like wearing shirts, probably has a durability quirk.
Across from him, was a boy who has a pair of engines protruding from his legs, most likely mobility focused.
One boy had some kind of apparatus on his stomach. Perhaps a laser of some kind?
Tim himself was in a pair of black slacks and a red sweatshirt. Soon, the test began. He passed. In fact, it was rather easy. The hard, and more important, part was soon to come.
While the hero describing the practical exam only got a reaction from a hyperactive boy in the front row, he did give some useful information. These zero pointers would most likely be hard to miss if the charts were anything to go by. Tim wound up being sent to area 3. Once there, he studied the other students.
Out of all of them, he probably only needed to worry about three.
The muscular one from earlier, while obviously flirtatious and unfocused, clearly had a strength enhancing quirk if his build and stance was anything to go by. That meant he was well suited for this test.
The hyperactive kid who responded to Mic seemed to have a speed quirk. His constant vibration and specialized runners' garb were a dead giveaway. He would probably have little trouble amounting a large score in little time.
The third was a blond girl in a blue tank top, over black sweatpants. Whatever her powers were, they weren't easily apparent. As such, she could prove to be quite the wild card during the exam.
Tim had slowly been inching towards the city. Not quick enough to draw attention, but enough to give him a head start. Now just outside the layer of buildings, he held his staff tightly.
"Start!" Mic's voice boomed through the air, shocking most of the students present. It took roughly ten seconds for them to start moving. It took Tim two.
As soon as he was in the city, Tim immediately headed for the side streets. If the main fighting was kept to the main streets, that should leave him plenty of robots to destroy. Seeing a group of one pointers, he darted at them, brandishing his staff he destroyed all four.
While normally robots would be a difficult target due to lacking pressure points, these were designed to be taken down by teenagers. As such, well placed strikes could disable them quickly.
…
"Start" blared through the false city.
While Mic explained that heroes didn't get to wait for a countdown, Conner tried to refocus. Eventually he managed to leap forward, ending up landing on a three pointer.
Smirking, he yelled "How do you metalheads like that!" He was then jumped by a whole group of the two- and three-point robots. Even without doing that well on the written, he could tell this exam was already in the bag.
…
"Start" blared through the false city.
Avoiding the kid in red nearest in the city, Bart rushed in. Pushing just under the sound barrier, he began to build up quite the score.
In the first minute, he gained 50 points. From their he focused mostly on lining robots up for others. That didn't stop him from breaking 70 at the 2-minute mark.
…
"Start" blared through the false city.
After gathering herself, Cassie Sandsmark jets forward. Flying just over the buildings, she looks towards a group of 3 pointers ahead.
Crashing down in the center of them, she destroys most of the group in an instant. Grasping the arm of one, she bats it against two remaining bots, gaining her 15 points from that group.
… 1 minute warning
"18 points" Tim thinks as he smashes another 2-point bot. Not enough to be certain, but he might have a chance if he hurries.
"Crash!" He heard from outside the Ally.
Glancing out, he sees a giant robot coming towards the students, a few only narrowly dodging the rubble from destroyed buildings. Before he could turn to make his own retreat, he noticed something. Many of the students seemed to be tripping up. They were moving too slowly to escape.
Focusing again on the robot, he realized that while large, it seemed to follow the same rules as the other enemies. Fragile head, clunky legs (or tank treads), and durable torso. With a plan formed, he looks for people to enact it. Seeing the three from earlier, he motions them over.
"Hey! I need to talk to you." He calls.
"What do you want!" The girl fires back, clearly a bit startled by the robot as well. "I'm a little busy here, if you didn't notice." She snarks.
"This is so cool are you seeing this?cjndcncascasx-" the hyper teen continued.
"How'd you three like to fight a giant robot?" Tim asked grinning.
…
This was crazy. Why she agreed to it, Cassie might never know. But here she was, flying towards the 40ft high robot, that she probably wouldn't even get points for.
But if that kid was right, then this could help the other entrants out. And that, she did want. Looking down she saw the speedy kid clearing the way of students. Then the showboat stopped the 0-pointers treads, now it was her turn.
Focusing on the target in front of her, she pulls back a punch aiming for the head.
With a "Boom!" She rockets into the mechanical monstrosity.
Smiling to herself, looks at the fallen robot proudly as the exam ends.
…
All four went to their respective student apartments to wait for the results. While the three with powers felt quite sure of their entrance, Tim wasn't quite as certain. Even counting the 0 pointer, he still had a low score. And that was if they gave him points for it, he didn't exactly do much.
In the end though, he couldn't speed the process up at all, worrying himself sleepless would only harm him long-term. With that he slept, awaiting the new day.
