Chapter 2-Unexpected Results
2 weeks had passed since the day of the exam.
Mail had been received by all 4 students.
Tim opened the letter with bated breath. This was it. This would be final.
Suddenly, a hologram of All Might exploded from the newly revealed projector. "I am here as a projection!" It shouted through the room. "Greetings young Drake! I am glad to inform you that you have been accepted into UA Highschool! While your villain points were lower than accepted, and your rescue points were also low, You successfully lead your fellow students in their attack which aided your peers. Because of this, we felt compelled to create a new point category. The leadership points. Welcome to your hero academia!"
Tim was shocked. All Might seemed to be even more boisterous than usual in that.
Ignoring the oddness of manor, Tim was overjoyed!
He would go to UA. And he would soon do his part in taking over All Might's workload.
Examining the score list, he began to read it.
"Conner Kent 92 8 1st
Cassie Sandsmark 72 28 1st
Bart Allen 80 20 1st
Katsuki Bakugo 77 0 3rd
Eijiro Kirishima 39 35 4th
Ochaco Uraraka 28 45 5th
Ibara Shiozaki 36 32 6th
Itsuka Kendo 25 40 7th
Tenya Iida 52 9 8th
Izuku Midoriya 0 60 9th
Timothy Drake 18 32 10th"
He didn't expect to make it in, let alone the top ten. But he did wonder, why was he accepted? He wasn't sure about these so called "Leadership points." Rationally they made sense, but why would UA add such a thing when the exam didn't make it obvious to entrants to team up. For now, though, he looked forward to the oncoming challenges.
The first day of school
30 minutes. That was how long till class began. Tim was sitting alone at the back of the large classroom 1A. 10 minutes later, several students began arriving. First the blond girl from the exam, accompanied by a girl with pink skin and antenna.
"Looks like we're not the first ones here after all!" The pink girl exclaimed in surprise. Energetically introducing the both. "I'm Mina Ashido! And this is Sandsmark!" She volunteered
"I told you to call me Cassie." The now identified Cassie told her energetic counterpart.
"The names Tim." He interrupted calmly nodding in greeting to the blond. "Nice to meet you both."
"Same!" Ashido loudly responded. By this point a red-haired boy, who bore a striking resemblance to the person with a durability quirk Tim saw at the exam, entered with what appears to be a… floating school uniform? This caused Ashido to rush off to talk to them. Cassie decided to find a seat in the back as well.
… 5 minutes until class.
Conner lavishly entered through the large classroom doors. The variety of faces he saw was staggering. He glanced dejectedly at the lack of front row seats. That's what he got for tardiness he supposed. He slid his backpack onto a back-row seat, smirking at all he passed. From the back he overheard a conversation of some green haired big shot that just entered. He seemed to have some competition after all if the Somei kid was to be believed. But he knew he was the best.
… 10 seconds until class starts.
'whoosh!' wind blasted past all the students as a white streak slid through the room.
"Yeah! On time!" He yelled to no one in particular. This earned him some scrutinizing glances. Especially from a certain engine bearing student.
But before the heir to Ingenium could reprimand the speedster, he was cut off by a 6ft tall cocoon. Or at least what looked like one.
"Go somewhere else if you want to play at being friends. This is the hero course." The now revealed walking sleeping bag stated. His sudden appearance visibly startling all but Tim and Todoroki. He waited for those not seated to find one.
"Okay, it took eight seconds before you were quiet.
Time is limited. You kids are not rational enough." He ground out.
Tim smiled. Quite happy with his appointed homeroom. The Erasure hero, Eraserhead. He was a little-known hero who worked underground. His preferred style of fighting crime harkened back to vigilantes of old.
The teacher proceeded to explain the quirk apprehension test they would all be taking. While most students were either confused or excited, Tim was quickly filled with dread. Even with his training, Tim would stand little chance of scoring well on such a quirk driven test.
As if he noticed this change of expression, Aizawa spoke up "Not you." He said oriented towards Drake. At the puzzled expression he continued. "The principal was clear that you need to be at the orientation. So, go."
This puzzled the class quite a bit. But they ignored it as something to ask about later and went to change. Whatever the day had in store; it would be interesting.
…
The rest of class soon found themselves at the test site.
"Sandsmark!" Eraser barked towards the blond student. "You were tied for first in the exam. What was your record softball throw in middle school?" He asked sternly.
Cassie gulped at his glare. "48 meters," she said to the laughter of a couple students.
He tossed her a softball. "Try with your quirk." He told her.
Grasping the ball, she readied herself at the plate. Swinging forward, she tossed the ball whooshing air around it. The machine loaded "958 meters"
This left most of the crowd in shock at such a difference in strength. All were quite excited at the prospect of using their quirks fully.
""It looks fun," huh?" Eraser sighed. "You have three years to become a hero. Will you have an attitude like that the whole time? All right. Whoever comes in last place in all eight tests will be judged to have no potential and will be punished with expulsion."
This left the students in a frenzy, before resting themselves for the upcoming tests.
50 Meter Dash.
The first students to be assigned were Iida and Bart. As they ran Iida burst forward. On arrival, he chided himself for not not being able to reach full speed in such a narrow span. He soon realized that Bart was already at the end of the track.
Examination of the screen showed their speeds.
Tenya Iida: 3.04 seconds
Bart Allen: 0.16 seconds
The students were speechless. Eventually Momo began putting it together. "He must have been going about 300 meters per second.!"
"What speed!" The engine hero cried out.
Meanwhile a certain fanboy noticed Bart's last name. 'Allen? As in Barry Allen? The second Flash?'. First the son of Endeavor, now a relative of the Flash!?
The next pair up were Cassie and Conner. Soon the board showed:
Conner Kent: 3.52 seconds
Cassandra Sandsmark: 4.50 seconds
The test went on, with Conner and Cassie leading in strength, while Bart led in anything speed related. The final score ended with Conner, Cassie, and Bart as the top 3.
…
Most of the teens were exhausted upon return to the classroom. They found Tim in the same place as before, with a curious look on his face.
"How'd the orientation go?" Ashido asked breathing heavily.
"Uneventful." Tim responded with a dry laugh. "And the Test?"
"It was awful!" Mineta yelled in response. "He threatened us all with being expelled if we ranked last!"
"It was merely a deception." Iida remarked. "Although such behavior from a pro hero is unsettling."
Tim smirked a bit. After what he had read about Eraserhead, he was doubtful that their teacher did not mean what he said. More likely he saw certain potential in whoever came in last. "I can imagine."
"They recorded the orientation for you all to see." Aizawa told the class. "Pay attention". He said motioning towards the screen before leaning into the wall for a nap.
Well, that's the test. Sorry if that seemed rushed. The rest of the day will be given more care next time. Leadership points may seem a bit contrived, I admit they are partially, but I do believe that with all their cooperative exercises UA would have something designed to reward those who work together. Granted, not as much as the rescue points for taking down a giant robot single handedly.
