Sunday morning, Olivia woke up before Elliot. Some point during the night, he had rolled away from her and was sleeping on his own side of the bed. Slipping on her robe from the back of the door, she went to start cooking some breakfast for them. She hoped that they would get some good quality time together before she had to go back to work the next day. She got updates on the case they were working on from Fin and there were no new developments. If there was, they would call her back in.
She finished flipping the last pancake when Elliot entered the kitchen. She handed him a freshly poured cup of coffee and he smiled. "Good morning, my love", he says leaning forward to drop a kiss on her lips.
They take their plates to the table and sit down to enjoy the breakfast Olivia had prepared. For a long time, she couldn't cook. She was the type of person who burned water. She lived on takeout and frozen meals. Once they started dating, she started to learn to cook more because she didn't want his kids to feel like they weren't getting adequate meals when they came to their fathers. She found a love for cooking when she had the time to do it. Her favorite meal to make was breakfast because that was her favorite meal of the day.
They ate their pancakes relatively silent till Elliot cleared his throat, "Tell me about the case you guys are working on.". She knew the shock of the request registered on her face. She didn't think he would want to hear about the cases of the job after everything that happened.
She started out with telling him about when she got called away from home two nights before and everything they have figured out since then but they seemed to be at a dead end. There were no leads and the victim couldn't remember anything else that was helpful to them.
Together, they started tossing ideas around and possibilities. She knew she shouldn't be telling him about the case. But, he wasn't just any random person. It is Elliot. Elliot Stabler who had been her partner for the better part of the last 12 years.
After they finished, they both worked to finish the dishes and pick up the kitchen. As she put the last plate in the cupboard, he started pulling her hand towards their bedroom. She smirked and they both climbed back into their bed.
He turned on their TV and searched for a movie they would both like. Finally, he found The Godfather and turned it on. She rolled her eyes and lightly slapped at his chest. She hated this movie but every time it was on, Elliot just had to watch it.
She cuddled into his arms and closed her eyes. One hand ran up and down her back while the other hand rested on her hip stroking the skin above her pajamas. She winced when he moved and pressed down on her hip.
"What is it?" He asks looking at her with concern in his eyes.
"My hip is bruised," She tells him softly. She slid down her shorts just enough to show him a large black and blue mark on the expanse of her hip and thigh. He stared at it with confusion and concern. "It happened when I fell over the coffee table yesterday," she informs him. She could see the realization wash over his features.
He was silent as he rolled her onto her back. She looked at him questioningly as he slipped her shorts down her legs and tossed them on the floor. He sat back and examined the mark on her tan skin. She watched his face as he stared at her leg.
She reached out and brushed her hand across his face. He leaned down and placed feather-like kisses all around the bruise. She brushed her hands through his cropped hair and reached to pull him up to her. As he hovered over her, he just gazed at her face taking in all of her features.
Olivia leaned up and placed a soft kiss on his lips. He hesitated for a second before deepening the kiss and draping his body over hers.
Soon, she lightly pushed against his chest and he broke off the kiss. "I'm sorry, El. I'm just really not in the mood."
With a resigned sigh, he slid over next to her and just held her in his arms. "I'm sorry, Olivia." He says again. She blew out a breath and stares at the ceiling. "You believe that don't' you?", he asks her.
As she opened her mouth to respond, her phone rang. She grabbed it off the side table and she saw it was Cragen. "Sorry, duty calls." She leaned over and kissed his lips before hopping out of bed to change into work clothes and dash out the door.
As she got ready, he prepared her coffee and met her at the door with her travel mug she takes to work. "Thank you. Bye!" She called over her shoulder as she ran out the door.
When she arrived in the squad room, she saw some faces she didn't recognize. She dropped her bag and approached her squad who was gathered around the whiteboard in the room. They quickly informed her of the newest developments. They had found their guy and they needed to move swiftly and safely.
As she was getting ready, Cragen, and one of the men she didn't recognize approached her. "Benson, this is your new partner, Nick Amaro." Her eyes grew wide as she looked back and forth between the two men.
"Welcome to SVU, Amaro." She said politely as she shook his hand before walking around him to head out to catch their perp. She wanted nothing to do with this newbie. While she knew, ultimately, it was Elliot's decision to leave, she did not want another partner. Elliot was her partner. Partners for life. If she couldn't have Elliot, she was going solo. Cragen could find somebody else to work with this Amaro guy.
As soon as they arrived on-site, Cragen instructed Amaro must be with her. She groaned internally but didn't argue. Nobody was going in alone because they were unsure of how it was going to go down. The perp was armed and dangerous so they were all taking extra precautions.
Olivia entered the abandoned building first with Amaro following behind. Fin was going around back with the blonde detective who she didn't know as well. As soon as she got halfway down the stairs, they heard a gunshot. Olivia felt a searing pain in her thigh. She looked down and realized she had been shot. She yelled for Nick to go down and that she was fine.
She immediately started putting pressure on the wound as she tried to go back up the stairs and call for a bus. She heard Fin yell that he got him. Amaro came bounding back up the stairs and dropped next to Olivia. Her face was scrunched up in pain and he took over holding pressure on the wound that was bleeding profusely.
They didn't have to wait long before an ambulance finally showed up and started checking her out. After taking initial vitals, she waved them off insisting that she was fine.
The EMTs only left after Amaro and Fin promised that they would get her to the hospital to check out the gunshot wound.
Olivia was cursing herself as the pain radiated through her leg. She felt the tears beginning to bubble up in her eyes but she willed them to stay away. The worst pain she had ever felt was this. Out of all the years, she has been a cop she had never gotten shot.
They got her into the car and took her to the nearest hospital. On the way, she called Elliot and let him know what had just happened. As soon as he found out, he raced to the hospital to meet her there.
The walk into the hospital was almost unbearable. Amaro held her up on one side and Fin held her up on the other. Rollins, she found out her name was, walked in front of them to make sure there was a doctor ready for her.
Olivia was taken to a room where she was met with a nurse holding a hospital gown. Groaning, she took it to put it on. She hated hospital gowns with a burning passion. They were uncomfortable and made her feel way too exposed. Stripping off her shirt and pants, she slipped the gown on over her tank top and panties. The pain in her thigh just kept getting worse to the point it felt like it was numb.
Soon, the doctors had her laying back so they could tend to her injury. As she slid the the gown over, it exposed her entire leg. Amaro in a chair by the door watching over her to make sure his new partner was okay. She glanced over at him and knew that he was going to be a good partner. As much as she didn't want him, he was here to stay and he was obviously going to always have her back which made her feel slightly more comfortable. However, she did not trust him fully yet. She didn't know him and it was going to take her awhile for him to gain that trust.
Olivia was acutely aware of how she was exposed right now. She felt beyond uncomfortable with him sitting there. When she looked at him again, he was staring at her but not her face. She followed his eye line and realized exactly what he was staring at. Her giant bruise on her hip and thigh. She cleared her throat and scrunched up the gown so she could pull it over the bruise. He was giving her concerned glances but she refused to look at him. Thankfully, he said nothing.
Elliot entered the hospital room with a nurse. She could visibly see how worried he was. The only thing she told him was that she had gotten shot and was on her way to the hospital. He stopped short when he see a random guy sitting next to Olivia's beside.
He looked back and forth between them and she knew the anger was starting to build within him.
She had no idea what was about to happen.
