He knew the first day of school would be stressful, but he hadn't expected the nerves to be as bad as they were. He could only imagine what it must feel like for the students given his own feelings as a teacher. A few months ago, he'd been hired to work at Mitaka Hero Academy but was shocked to find out he'd be the homeroom teacher for a first-year class so soon. Fortunately, since M.H.A. was a smaller school, his class only had ten students. It would probably be easier to handle than a bigger school's student body would contain.
"Homeroom will be starting soon. Do you have everything ready, Mr. Chimihiku?"
He'd been so focused on going over the student list, Chimihiku hadn't even noticed one of the other teachers coming over to him. He straightened his papers and gave his colleague a nod of affirmation.
Shoshi Chimihiku had been working as a local hero in Mitaka since getting his license, using his control over the four elements to battle crime but the idea of trying to lead the next generation made his almost as concerned as battle did. If anything, he felt he could take comfort in knowing it wasn't U.A. As prestigious as that school was, Chimihiku didn't think he could handle working at such a big school.
As he reached his classroom, he took a deep breath and opened the door. Suddenly, a bucket of water fell on his head, soaking him. His already mop like, black hair now looked even more like a mop. It was going to be one of those classes. Several students tried to stifle laughter, a couple didn't even try, and a few others looked horrified. Chimihiku let out a sigh before turning to look at the students.
"I don't suppose any of you would care to confess to this." He said, dryly.
For a moment, no one said anything. Finally, a girl stood up, her face completely bereft of emotion.
"It was Sarumara, sir."
Behind her, a boy with brown hair circling his face down to his chin went from laughing to shock, unable to believe that she had ratted him out. She turned to face him, not bothered at all by his anger.
"I am sorry," she said. "but I cannot lie."
Chimihiku watched Sarumara sulk as the water covering his head began to lift off of him. After a moment, he was completely dry, with a ball of water hovering above him. The students looked on in wonder as he drew his hand towards the prankster. Suddenly, the water ball flew, splashing into Sarumara's face. The other students began to laugh and after a moment, even the now wet prankster did as well.
"Let's save the surprises for after school, shall we?" Chimihiku said with a smile before starting to take attendance and look over his students.
Seat 1: Aiko Ugoku. Quirk: telekenisis. Ugoku could move things with her mind, an extremely powerful quirk which made Chimihiku wonder why she's chosen such a small school when a bigger one like U.A. would potentially have loved having her.
Seat 2: Jin Sokudo. Quirk: speed force. Able to think and move at amazing levels of speed. His biggest challenge was keeping himself slowed down to the rest of the world's level.
Seat 3: Kai Chiyusu. Quirk: reform. Chiyusu could heal himself and others at accelerated levels. Rumor had it, he had once regrown someone's limb, but amazingly, there seemed to be no evidence as the alleged missing limb was never found.
Seat 4: Kabi Kankaku. Quirk: hypersensitivity. All five of his senses were enhanced which had, apparently, made for a difficult childhood with several bouts of sensory overload induced panic attacks.
Seat 5: Ryuji Tatsuma. Quirk: dragon. Younger cousin of Dragoon Hero: Ryukyu, Tatsuma had failed the U.A. entrance exam by a slim margin and was clearly not happy to be at this smaller school.
Seat 6: Sunpo Fumejigen. Quirk: micro massive. At a touch, she could shrink or grow any item. She'd never tried using her ability on humans, worried what that kind of bodily change could do.
Seat 7: Raku Inazuma. Quirk: shock. Inazuma could produce and project electricity. Chimihiku didn't know much else about him. The young man seemed to prefer to stay an enigma.
Seat 8: Maho Tsuragi. Quirk: magical girl. Tsuragi seemed to have the abilities of most magical girls seen on tv shows including transformation and several offensive attacks.
Seat 9: Seven. Quirk: none. Seven was an android in the class as a test to see how such beings could work as heroes. Chimihiku wasn't sold on the idea himself, but wasn't in a position as the new guy, to argue.
Seat 10: Kumozaru Sarumara. Quirk: monkey. He could do anything a monkey could and clearly had the mischievous side to match.
With everyone accounted for, Chimihiku began going through the syllabus. His nerves started calming. Almost all the students seemed fairly attentive and open to participation. Only Inazuma and Tatsuma looked like they might be difficult, one out of bitterness, the other, seclusion.
The first half of the day went by quickly. After homeroom, the class joined other students for an assembly led by principal Arashi. It was pretty basic and the principal's style of speech had more than a few students fighting sleep. When it was finally over, the students gathered for lunch which gave them a good chance to get to know one another.
"So you don't need to eat then?" Tsuragi inquired of her android classmate.
"No. I have other forms of sustenance to keep my body working properly."
"Wow. I don't think I could stand not having food."
The peppy young girl's tray was filled to capacity with the different food options they had offered. Her shoulder length pink hair, normally allowed to flow free, was currently tied back to avoid getting in the way of her eating.
Fumejigen watched her for a moment before asking, "How are you about to eat so much and stay so thin?'
"Magic, of course." Tsuragi answered with a giggle.
A similar food based conversation was happening at the next table over as some of the boys marveled at the bland and flavorless looking selections on Kankaku's tray.
"I have to eat simple." He was explaining. "With my enhanced sense of taste, overly flavored foods end up making me sick.
"That makes sense. I guess it's easy to forget hypersensitivity is more than just vision and hearing." Commented Sokudo.
His plate, much like Tsuragi, was full though mostly with carbs.
"My metabolism is also super fast so I have to eat a lot to keep fueled."
As the conversations continued, Kankaku took notice of something.
"Isn't somebody missing?"
The boys looked around and despite the students from many classes gathered, there seemed to be one from their class not in the lunchroom. After a moment, they realized the missing person was Inazuma. He'd been very quiet before and during homeroom, not interacting with his classmates at all and now he wasn't around for lunch.
Tatsuma just shrugged and said, "Some guys aren't into hanging out. I'm sure he's fine."
They found Inazuma after lunch, back in the classroom where he'd eaten alone. He assured them that it was nothing personal. He just preferred to be by himself. Mr. Chimihiku entered before the conversation could go any further and took them to a massive room in the lower levels of the school.
"This room looks empty," He began. "But with advanced holographic technology, it'll make a perfect testing ground for all of you."
"How can the school afford something like this?" Asked Chiyusu.
"As many of you may have heard, the Kagaku Lab is studying if an android can work as a hero. MHA has allowed them to use our school as a test, hence Seven being a part of the class. In return, they've outfitted us with this tech to assist in hero training."
The students looked around the room in wonder at the huge space.
"One at a time, you're all going to be put in a situation that will challenge your respective quirk." Chimihiku continued. "We saw what you can do in the entrance exam but now we want to test your upper levels. There's no danger of death or serious injury but you can still get hurt so I recommend taking it seriously. Kabi Kankaku, you'll be up first."
Kankaku nervously stepped forward as Mr. Chimihiku and the other students moved to the observation area. The young man took a deep breath and braced himself for what was to come.
