This story takes place as Eden moves her final things into Tyler's flat in Portland, ready to properly begin her new life with him and start at her new University, Portland State.
Eden's POV
I sat in the driver's seat of Tyler's car, my hair blowing behind me and sunglasses my one protection from the scorching sun. Seriously, did it want to make me crash? It was nothing like Santa Monica, but for us locals here we were exhausted by this heat. I turned a corner, adapting to the strange feel of driving stick shift and leaving the ease of an automatic. I tuned my head to look at the passenger seat beside me and sadly it was empty, Tyler was at home. I felt a smile creep onto my lips at the thought of returning to him, a luxury I could now receive every day. The backseats were inhabited by my suite case, my final bit of luggage to move into Tyler's place (so in other words my whole wardrobe was stuffed in there). As I came to a halt due to an annoyingly slow traffic light I looked around at the "Keep Portland Weird Mural" and the smile on my face only grew. My phone beeped, filling my ears with the familiar sound of my text ringtone. I looked over at it to see one message from Rachel and another from my Mum, demanding I call her later to say I had survived the tiresome journey from L.A back to Portland. I didn't read the rest as I intended to do so later and carried on with the journey back.
My keys fitted reassuringly into the keyhole, reminding me this was now officially my home. I pushed the door open to our now freshly panted flat, with all its windows open, luring out the paint fumes. It was a sweet gesture since I had been complaining about it a few days before. I made my way to our bedroom and dumped my suitcase on the floor, we were looking for a wardrobe appropriate for the two of us (if that was possible) but for now I would be living out of my suitcase. I passed the spare room / study for my Uni work and sighed blissfully. I felt everything was finally going how I imagined: Rachel and Snake were spending the final week of the holidays on a last minute trip to Spain, now an official and pubic couple. Mum and Jack were busy wedding planning, an event I was beyond excited for and I felt dad was finally coming around. We both had things we needed to change between the two of us, him and Ella would be coming to stay the first weekend after the new school year begins. Hence mine and Tyler's sudden urgency to make our flat look spotless. I walked to the kitchen and a felt a sense of pride as I looked at the space. Recently is seemed all our family had been flashing money at us; my mum wanting to give us some cash to start our new life together, Ella insisting and being well, Ella. Even Tyler's dad (who I was slowly trying to build a relationship with, and when I say slowly, I mean it. But I was trying.) had offered to help. We had refused practically all offers and those we did accept went straight to our savings, not spent on things that were not necessity's. So, as I looked around our home it felt amazing that we, Tyler and Eden, had done all this already.
I pushed the "Starting at Portland State" flyers away that clattered our beautiful glass table and started to lay it. I then made my way to the kitchen where I got to work on a vegetarian lunch for the two of us, I had turned to the vegetarian diet without hesitation. Firstly, it simply made sense secondly, I knew it made Tyler happy which is always a bonus and finally, it was far healthier. I was sticking to my resolution that if I wanted to lose more weight, I had to be more healthy instead of cutting out meals. Tyler could never stop emphasizing that it didn't matter, that nobody cared, but I did. So, I got some ingredients out of the fridge and got to work.
I felt someone put their arms around my waist and kiss my neck. I jumped and blushed in reaction.
"I didn't hear you come in", I whispered to him.
"Well you seemed distracted", Tyler replied against my neck, making my skin tingle. It took me a while to fully realise what he meant before it came to me.
"Surprise!" I announced, turning around to look at him in his incredible emerald eyes and. I had laid the table and got out some candles, yet they weren't really that necessary since it was only lunch time and bright, natural light was flooding the dining room. I walked over to the table to lay our lunch out I wasn't the best cook but I was learning. Either way Tyler said it looked delicious.
"How come you're spoiling me when you're the one who just survived the journey here. Shouldn't you have been studying or relaxing?" Tyler asked, half-jokingly as we sat down opposite to one another.
"Well you're the one who has been working all morning and you've been painting and decorating the flat!" I told him, another smile spreading on my face. Well what could I say, it seemed that was all I could do when I was around Tyler.
"Yeah, we all know who has really been doing all the work in that department?" he mocked me as he raised an eyebrow and we tucked into our food. Tyler's interior design tastes, I was sorry to say, had not improved from that day he wanted to paint the apartment red. So, my job was to pick out everything and Tyler's was to get it; though I was enjoying the fact it hadn't all been done for us. Now it felt truly our place. Eden and Tyler's. I squeezed his hand under the table, an action I couldn't resist, and he soon squeezed mine back.
Tyler's POV
I woke up, feeling groggy and I groaned as I rolled to my other side and bumped into something. My once sleepy state vanished, and a sense of happiness replaced it. I wrapped my arm round Eden, so my chest was against her back and prepared myself to go back to sleep. Until Eden jolted awake, causing me to as well.
"Oh my god!" Eden exclaimed, as she stumbled out of bed, adjusting her night dress and messy hair. She still looked beautiful though. She reached for her alarm clock and gasped down at the time, the alarm clock she had been adamant to set on an annoyingly high volume and clearly had been a lost cause. She must have slept through it, I certainly had.
"Tyler! Get up! I'm going to be late for my first day!" Eden screamed, looking adorable in her anger. I couldn't help but mess with her as I pretended to drift back to sleep. Only to be greeted by a handful of clothes chucked in my face, I inspected them and recognised them as the attire I usually wore for work. Eden was now nowhere in sight, yet I could see light shining through the keyhole of our bathroom. I could only imagine the rushed state she was in as she got ready for her first day at Portland State. I soon copied her hasty manner as I too wanted her time at her new university to go well, the guilt I had felt from her having to leave Chicago had not fully went away. I was soon ready with a coffee in my hand and toasted sandwiches in the other. Eden would probably skip breakfast due to her panicky rush, though I couldn't have that; whatever her reason may be. And the coffee, well, let's just say I didn't want to have to deal with a coffee deprived Eden. She came running in in a pair of high wasted black button up jeans and a loosely tucked in smart, yet casual white and blue striped shirt, paired with her signature converse. The ones with "no te rindas" written stealthily on its side. I smiled as the sight of her. She grabbed the coffee greedily and sent me a grateful look, knowing just as well as me her desperate need for it. We got in my car and she rode shotgun as I took the wheal, I passed her the toasty and she ate quickly but carefully, scared to ruin her carefully chosen outfit.
"I'll see you later, okay" I tell her as we reach the parking lot, it was a miracle I had managed to secure a space, though we already had another car breathing down our backs.
"You sound like my dad!" Eden said with a laugh, before tensing up at the thought of her father treating her like this, the thought must feel foreign to her. You and me both I though. "Like a dad" Eden corrected with a small, sad smile. "See you at home, Amelia's giving me a lift back," I nodded in understanding, hiding my small sense of sadness at not being able to pick her up myself. The gap between seeing each other now extended. She reached over to my seat before giving me a quick kiss that ended to soon as she rushed off into the swarm of students. She turned back at me for a final wave, an enthusiastic look on her face. I was about to get out of the car to wave back (me currently being shielded by the tinted windows) yet the car behind me was becoming more and more impatient and I was then exposed to the unpleasant sound of a horn beeping loudly.
With a sigh I made my way out of the parking lot and headed to the youth group where I was to meet Emily. My phone pinged and I looked at it quickly, the screen was lit up with Eden's name and her short text of: No Te Rindas. Our motto these days. Things were going up hill for us, it wasn't perfect but right at that moment, it felt it. No Te Rindas, I thought to myself; and I now beside Eden, I knew I never would never would.
Hope you enjoyed! It was again a fairly short but sweat Eden and Tyler moment. A guest reader suggested a story on their engagement, expect that in the next chapter! I will get it to you guys as soon as possible though I am going to work on my other story a bit more for the next week. Please send me some more one-shot ideas! Xx
Also, if you were confused and read the books a while ago (or were just confused) "No te rindas" means "never give up". Awww.
