Prologue

This is our part of our story on how our life changed. It became much bigger than the game. Ever since, we met with the hero.

"Emergency Call: I need your help"

Kirito POV

The day arrived that we were told to be ready for. The voice message was sent by an unknown number but the voice was clear to me. The tone of his voice wasn't serious but that's just him. I can imagine him smiling sending the message.

However, that gave us more of a reason to meet him. There was an address following that message. It's a little far from where we live by foot but by motorcycle, we will get there in no time.

Asuna hopped behind me on the motorcycle, wrapping her arms around my waist. She was wearing a white coat and brown leather boots. She had a white helmet with a rose on the side of it. It's newly worn, I believe this is the second time she rides with me.

I was wearing the usual black leather jacket. My favorite colour but many see it has a depressing colour.

"We should hurry" Asuna spoke behind me, acting serious, that pulled on my heart string.

I pressed on the gas and sped into the street. There was no time to waste. If what he said was true, then it was going to be a life and death situation.

The streets were empty, no cars in sight. Not even people walking on the sidewalk could be seen. The street lights were flickering. I wasn't complaining since I don't need to stop anytime soon.

A loud snap of thunder echoed in the crimson red sky above us. I almost forgot what the sky looked like. I thought I could ignore it. Guess I was wrong. I could hear Asuna cough behind me. The breeze I normally feel isn't the same. No fresh scent.

A strike of thunder rained down, striking buildings in front of me breaking pieces of the building that started falling down like a rock slide.

"Hold on!" I shout gripping the handle harder and accelerating faster to avoid the debris. I don't plan on dying that easy.

It became harder to drive because the debris was cracking the road when it made contact with it. The smoke clouded my vision. I took a nasty turn and quickly got my balance back.

There was a ramp in front of me. Asuna held my waist tighter making it harder to breath. I hate making her feel scared but I know she trusts me.

"Ahhhh!" I shouted, riding up the ramp and making it across into an alleyway.

It was a dead end with a wall of debris blocking me to the other side. There was someone standing tall on it wearing a black suit with armour palettes on his chest and shoulders and knees. He had a long red scarf wrapped around his neck that was swaying behind him.

His helmet was a unique colour of black. Surprisingly something like that exists. It reminds me of space. It was an empty abyss with no end. I couldn't see the person's face.

I slowed down and stopped a few minutes away from the debris. In the far distance. I started hearing explosions and screams well more like battle cries.

Asuna takes her helmet off and lets her hair out, shaking it a little then moving some strains away from her face. While I was taking mine off, he came sliding down the debris landing on two feet before us.

"You made it!" He said in a cheerful tone a little muffled by the mask.

Suddenly, his whole suit started to glow an aqua blue colour. It looked like it was fading away. The material turned into liquid almost and slid against his body into his bulky bracelet on his right wrist.

I was able to see his face and his outfit. He was an inch taller than me with slightly pointed hair in front of his head. He had brown hair and eyes. He was wearing a dark green coat and blue jeans.

"Nice to see you again Peter...though, can you explain what's happening?" Asuna asked in a cute tone noticing portals were opening in the sky.

"I would like to know the same thing" I started to regret coming here. This was no virtual world. This was the real world. I knew that because this feeling of overwhelming power and fear course through my veins causing my legs to shake.

"I did tell you...a war was coming" Peter said with a grin. "I was going to handle this myself but...that plan went out the window...so I asked a few who are willing to help me"

Another explosion occurred in the distance behind Peter who didn't look worried. From what I can guess, I wasn't the only one who received the call.

A herd of roars echoed in the sky. My eyes widen seeing flying beasts with thick legs and arms coming out from the portables. Their heads were like lizards. Their roar sent shivers down my spine and there were thousands of them in the sky. I turned to Peter who showed no fear. He was calm.

"Those monsters...are they..real?" Asuna said with disbelief in her tone.

"Real enough that if you don't watch yourself...you die" Peter replies.

"Alright, Peter, why did you ask us for our help!...we aren't like we are in Aincrad. This is on a totally another level" I stated fully regretting coming here.

"So why did you come?" Peter asked plainly.

I hesitated to respond when he stared at me with his intense brown eyes. My other half responded instead showing no doubt in her expression.

"We owe you for what you did for us" Asuna spoke in a confident tone. "We can't think of any price that would be enough to give you what you did for us..so the moment you send out this message...we didn't hesitate. In our eyes, we owe you are lives"

Peter turned his head to me, probably for my reaction to what Asuna said. I just smiled and nodded. I may be afraid and out of my world for this but like Asuna said. We owe him our lives for helping us. A little info on how we met him. It was during my rescue for Asuna. I was desperate to save her and Peter was actually an anomaly in the game.

Neither a player or a CPU. Later we found out, he entered the online world in his physical form. He did another miracle that changed mines and Asuna's life forever after that event.

"Of course I know that the two of you are weak now... however-" Peter said, pulling out two cards and giving it to us.

I had my avatar in the card with some info. I raised the card to eye level mesmerizing on how transparent it is. There was a digital glow. This wasn't any ordinary card. He gave us another item which was a small stone, coin size.

"It's temporary but...it should be enough until I end this war" Peter said bringing out his serious expression. "The moment you download your avatar card...head over there"

Peter pointed at the tall stone tower at the center of the city. Anyone could have mistaken it with a skyscraper but it was even taller. It passes the clouds that surround it. Lightning was around it giving out different voltage.

"Where are you going to be?" I asked.

"Up that tower" Peter answers looking beyond the clouds. "Once I finish my business….this should all be over"

A white light flares from Peter's bracelet. A liquid type fabric was wrapping itself around Peter who just gave us a smile. In a second, he was back to wearing that outfit without the helmet. We could still see his eyes but half his face was covered by his red scarf.

Suddenly, Peter gets two inches taller which surprised me at first until I felt a strong breeze hitting my ankles. I looked at his shoes, noticing he was on a metallic hoverboard. There was light coming from underneath it.

"What the-"

"Take care of each other" He quickly speeds off toward the tower like a bullet train.

I looked at Asuna who had the same stunned expression as I did.

"What are we supposed too-" I looked at the card confused on how we would activate its power, then I noticed something falling above me.

A piece of torn paper. I reached for it noticing writing on it. Asuna got the same paper.

"Oh, almost forgot...Just insert it into your chest - Peter"

I turned my head fast in Peter's direction wondering how he sent this paper.

"What did we get ourselves into" Asuna said in a lighter tone.

It was odd. What was happening around us did scare us at first but after talking with Peter it's like it went away. Instead, I felt confident in my ability to help him in this war.

I pressed the card against my chest so did Asuna. A small glow came out of the cards that went through our bodies. I didn't feel it go through but felt something growing within me. Soon both of our bodies glowed like a lava lamp.

In a flash, we were in our avatars clothes. I chuckled seeing myself wearing my old attire. This brings back memories both good and bad. I looked up at Asuna who gave a confident look.

I felt extra weight added on my back. Literally, never knew how heavy these swords were. This was going to be tough to get used to. I wonder what kind of data was in the card. I imagined an image and a pair of fairy wings appeared on my back.

"So that's how I would summon those" I said softly looking at my wings.

"Alright enough trying to figure things out now" Asuna said flying up changing her hair colour to aqua blue along with her outfit.

I couldn't stop staring at the beautiful transformation but if I don't follow, I would be left behind.

OOO

We started flying over the city which was surreal like a dream. Well, a nightmare since the colour of the sky was reflecting off the building giving it a crimson colour. There were large fires scattered in the city along with smoke. I could sense other people's power fighting against the enemy. This felt hundred times better than entering aincrad using the nerve gear.

My geek side was slipping out but I kept my composure. I didn't show it in my face. This was serious and I need to prepare for anything coming at me.

"Arhhh!" I heard Asuna shout above me.

My eyes widen, noticing three of those flying monsters coming at us. Asuna got to them first. She slid her sword out. In one slash, three heads came falling down to the ground.

"Stay focus...don't let your guard down now Kirito" Asuna said with a slight smirk.

I felt a little embarrassed. I grip the handles of my swords and pull them out of my back. I quickly flew past Asuna. I could see those monsters coming at us a mile away. One came at my right. I sliced it's chest and spun myself slicing the other with my second sword.

The monster split open. The blood was pure black, not something you would see everyday. I sensed another one coming above me. I raised my head up. I didn't realize how close the monster was. Before I could react, Asuna went for her combo strike. I couldn't count how many hits. It was too fast for my eyes.

I'm really lucky to have a woman like her. With that thought, I felt like a train hit me. I slammed into a building and flew out the other side. My back smashes into a glass window of a tall building.

"Argh" The only sound that came out of my mouth.

"KIRITO!" Asuna yells flying toward me.

It was a far distance from where I was. The pain is real but if I was my normal self, I would be in the hospital for months.

While Asuna was coming to me, the thing that attacked me was hovering in the air. It looked different from the other monster. It had horns and a pair of black vampire wings. It's mouth looks like from a pumpkin carving. It's body was thin enough that I could see the rib cage. At the center of his chest was a black stone shaped like a diamond.

It spread its wings and a gust of darkness came out rapidly. Asuna was caught by the darkness and so was I.

It felt so cold.

One year later….

It never was the same after that day. I thought, staring out of the window of my school. I was laying my head against the desk feeling drowsy.

I felt a strong flick from the girl next to me. I looked at Asuna who gave me a look that I must obey or I will have to face her lecture after class. I raised my head up and started tapping the desk.

It felt like a dream. That's all I could explain. So surreal but it happened to and now it's over.

Then again, I believe we were lied to about those cards being temporary. I stare at my hand intensely. A faint darkness came out of it and was gone in a second.

OOO

Five months before…

Two police officers were out on patrol one night at the city's national park. They stumbled upon a young man laying on the bench.

"Another one" said the first officer soon flashing his light to the boy. "Let's bring him to the shelter-"

"Wait...he's not sleeping," the second officer.

A closer look at the male. They could see his eyes were opened but faded like there was no light in his eyes. They notice he had large amounts of blood on his shirt.

"Blood" said the first officer in a worried tone and looked at the body. "What happened?"

The boy didn't answer. He just stared at the officer with a blank expression. The officers look at each other wondering who was this boy.
