The next morning, Olivia got up before Elliot would even be awake. She dreaded walking into their bedroom but she had to because that is where all her work clothes.
She walked through their room quietly using her phone flashlight so she didn't have to turn their main light on which would cause Elliot to wake up. She went into their closet and shut the door. She grabbed a blouse and pants and quickly changed.
Olivia snuck back out of the closet and into the bathroom. She usually curled her hair but decided just to brush it and throw it up. Without even touching her makeup, she just went straight to the kitchen.
She filled her coffee cup and thought about how it was going to be going back to work. She hadn't been to work in such a long time and she hoped she could just jump back into the swing of things.
Olivia thought about Nick and the phone call from the day before. She just prayed that he wouldn't say anything to her while she was at work. She wanted to completely immerse herself in work and forget about her life. It was just easier to forget if she was dealing with other peoples cases.
She slipped out of the apartment quietly without a peep from Elliot. She got in the car and took a deep breath to prepare herself for the day. On her way, she blasted some music to get her in the mood for the day. She needed to be prepared for anything she was going to get thrown at her that day.
When she walked into the squad room, Cragen was already waiting for her to bring her into the office. She set her bag down and went in.
As they both sat down, Olivia waited for him to speak. She could tell he was examining the healing bruises on her face. His eyes traced her face from side to side.
"Captain," Olivia started quietly as he opened his mouth to speak. She motioned for him to go ahead first.
"Olivia, I am sorry for what happened in this office the other day. I am very worried about you but now I see," He motioned to her face, "there is more going on."
She wanted to start talking but her throat felt like it was starting to close up and her tears started to well in her eyes. "It's gotten bad, Don. I don't know what to do." She cries.
Olivia leaned forward resting her elbows on her keys as she started to cry harder. This was the first time she was fully going to admit everything that had happened. She wanted to tell him everything from beginning to end because if anybody was going to believe her, it would be her Captain.
Olivia broke down and told him everything. Cragen moved to the chair next to her to let her talk and nodded when it was appropriate.
At the end, she took a shuddering breath. She felt beyond relieved that she had finally let out all of the emotional and physically abuse she had suffered since the shooting of Jenna.
"But, please, Don. Let me work." She begged with tears still in her eyes. He reached over and grasped her hand tightly before nodding.
"I will allow you to work. I know this is hard for you but you need to make sure that you stay objective in your work." He explains to her and she nods along.
Soon, he let her out of the office and she got straight to work. Amaro watched her come out of the office and sat down. They made eye contact and he gave her a small smile. She returned it before getting down to work.
Olivia kept her focus all day long. She was surprised at how well she was able to put aside her personal life.
She stopped working for a minute and went into the breakroom to get a snack from the vending machine. When she turned around, Nick was standing right behind her. She gasped and clutched her chest in fear. "Sorry, Liv. Sorry." He says holding his hands up. When he noticed the new bruises on her face, he felt a sinking feeling in his stomach just hoping those new bruises weren't his fault.
"If you don't want to talk, that is okay. I just need you to know that I am here to support you. If you need, please give me a call." He told her gently. He felt so bad that this was happening to her. Nick just knew that the woman was at a loss and didn't know where to go so he just wanted her to know that he was going to be there for her.
She put her hand on his arm before walking around him to go back to her desk.
By the end of the day, Olivia was exhausted. It was nearing 7pm by the time she turned off her computer and packed up her bag. She stopped in the office before heading out.
"Olivia, if you need, please call me." Cragen says. He gave her the saddest smile and the most sympathetic glance. She smiled back before leaving.
In the car ride home, she thought about everything she had told Cragen. He gave her many options but the best one was just to leave. On the drive, she officially decided that she was going to go home and pack a bag. She was going to rent a hotel room that night and deal with the rest later.
When Olivia walked in the door to her apartment, her mind was set. She was leaving Elliot. She knew deep down that she would still be able to see his kids because Kathy would never take them away from her. Though, it still made her nervous that she could potentially never see the children again.
Olivia unlocked the door and walked in. She dropped her purse on the table and rounded the corner to go down the hallway. She tried to ignore Elliot who she knew was sitting on the couch drinking. She could smell the alcohol when she walked in.
She kept walking until she heard the unmistakeable sound of the safety coming off a trigger of a gun. Olivia stopped dead in her tracks. She slowly turned to see Elliot holding the gun in his hand on the couch. He was turning the gun around in his hands and staring down at it.
"I told you I didn't want you going back to work, Olivia." He says. His voice was so level it kind of scared her. He was deadly calm.
"I'm done, Elliot. I can't do this anymore." She said simply. She wasn't going to let him run the show anymore. She wanted to just get out and file for divorce for as soon as she could.
"You can't leave, Olivia!" He shouts wildly standing up waving the gun around. She jumped at the erratic change in his behavior. She knew she needed to be careful to make this situation as safe as possible for the both of them. This was very unlike the other two occasions. He wasn't acting suicidal, he was acting manic. "Sit down!" He yelled pointing at the couch.
Olivia slowly put her hands up to her chest and walked to the couch before sitting down on the edge.
Elliot walked back and forth in front of her mumbling things she couldn't understand. "You went back to work today even though I told you no!" He screams. As he yells, he reaches out and hits her hard across the face. She falls backwards onto the couch and her hands flew to her face. She needed to get out and she needed to get out now.
Olivia decided her best option was to just get out now. As she stood up and started to move, he grabbed her by the hair and pulled her until she was close to his body. "You aren't fucking leaving me!" He roared. His hand went from her hair to her throat and threw her against the nearest wall.
The fear in Olivia's body went through the roof as she felt the cold metal of the gun touch her face. It was a stark contrast from his hot hand around her throat. Her eyes went wide as she tried to push him away.
Elliot threw his body into hers and stepped so close to her she could feel his breath on her face. "You think you can just ruin my life and then fucking leave me? You are such a fucking bitch." He seethed spitting all over her face as he screams.
Olivia felt as if she wanted to completely melt into the wall. She had no where to go. He had her pinned. She didn't even have her own weapon to defend herself back.
"Elliot, please. Please let's just talk. I'll do anything you want. What do you want?" She begs trying to look him in the eye without pushing down harder on barrel of the gun that was pressed against her pulse point. She could feel herself shaking. She had been in situations like this plenty of times. Granted, the gun never touched her. But, this situation was different and the perp was Elliot. Elliot her husband. The man she married a year ago after being in love with for twelve years. Her husband had a gun pressed to her throat.
"There is no talking about this, Olivia! You are trying to leave. You are trying to leave me after everything I have done for you? I gave you a life. I gave you a family. You never would have gotten that without me." He pushed her even hard.
Olivia found some newfound strength with the anger that went through her body at his words. She took her elbow and effectively elbowed the arm holding the gun and was able to duck under the other.
She ran down the hall to their bedroom and went to shut the door but he was too fast. "You thought you could get away? Everything is your fault!" He shouted walking towards her.
Olivia slowly backed up towards the bed as he walked towards her. The gun was hanging limply from his hand. He continued his ranting while she tried to think of what to do next because reasoning with him was not going to work.
"You are such a sneaky little whore. Did you fuck Amaro when you went back to work?" He asks holding up the gun and toying with it. Her eyes stayed trained on him as he danced around the room. "Did you take him to the place I used to fuck you? All those times you couldn't wait until we got home?" He asks her laughing.
"Shut up, Elliot!" She yells back. The backs of her thighs hit the bed and she just stood there. He was acting so erratic that she couldn't even predict his next move so she could be one step ahead of him.
He looked at her with challenging eyes, "What did you just say to me?".
Olivia held her chin high as she responded, "I told you to shut up. Just shut up! I am fucking done with you Elliot! You are a horrible person and you need help!" She screams. As she starts to yell, all of the emotions from the last week start to bubble over and she couldn't take it anymore.
Elliot surged forward and tackled her into falling into the bed. As she fell, her arms and legs started swinging at him to get him off of her but it didn't work. He pinned her down to the mattress and grabbed her throat once again. This time, he began putting pressure. She felt the panic start to rise as she was having trouble breathing.
She was able to get one arm up and was trying to push him away but he was overpowering her in every way. The gun was resting on her stomach and she tried to reach for it but he was too quick. He had it back trained on her before she could grab it from him.
Olivia opened her eyes wide. All she could see was her husband choking her with a gun trained on her head.
Just then, there was a sound outside the bedroom window. It distacted him just enough to throw her body weight to the side and knock him off of her. He was quick though and tried to get her pinned back down.
Olivia started reaching for the gun but he got half of her body held down with his. They were so close again that she could feel his hot alcohol filled breath. She was beyond terrified of how this night was going to end. She just hoped it wasn't her in a body bag.
A wrestling for the match ensued. There were many times where Olivia almost had it but Elliot regained control. "I fucking hate you, you stupid bitch!" He screams loudly. "You don't deserve to be alive if you're trying to leave me.".
He points the gun at her head and she tries her hardest to get away. He pulls the safety and she just knows if she doesn't act quick, she was going to die.
Last second, she was able to overthrow his strength. His hands were holding onto hers as she pushed the gun down. Olivia was able to get it pressed against his temple and she pulled the trigger.
As soon as she felt the bullet go, she realized what just happened. She scrambled off the bed and stared as his dead body in shock. She dropped the gun and it had bounced right next to his body.
She knew she didn't have a choice or it would have been her. But, she still couldn't believe she just killed her husband.
As she stared as his body, she realized she couldn't spend the rest of her life in jail and she needed to think of a plan fast. As she stood up, she remembered the suicide note he had written a few weeks prior.
Olivia sprints down the hallway into the office and pulls open the drawer. Careful not to get blood on anything, she finds the note and walks back into the room. She placed it on the floor next to the bed like he had dropped it.
She looks around making sure the scene looked plausible. Olivia knew her body was in shock and she needed to move quickly. She got her purse and pulled out her phone before dialing 911.
"Hello? My husband just shot himself." Olivia cried out.
