Voices Chapter 1: "You Can't Escape Me"
Yeah, so I really have no idea if I'm going to continue this or not…um…yeah. Also, this is a time-jumping story, meaning I'm going to start near the end, and then, if I post more chapters, we'll see what happened before in the flashbacks.
Enjoy please! ^v^
Bracken shot straight across the forest, his legs taking him as fast as they could go. The unicorn didn't look behind him, only forward, into the unending darkness that looked like it was ready to consume him. The wind howled in his ears and whipped the corner of his shirt, making Bracken feel even colder than he already was, if that was possible. Brambles scratched his arms, leaving bloody marks all over them, but Bracken didn't have any time to react.
Oh, he had to run.
He closed his eyes, feeling them brimming with tears. He tried to keep from crying, tried to keep strong, but the tears just kept on streaming down his face. Hyperventilating, Bracken stopped. Whipping his head around, he opened his eyes to make out the outline of a tall figure with gleaming red eyes, illuminated slightly by the moon.
"No…no…" Bracken shook his head, "It's you." This couldn't be happening. The unicorn tried to run, but every single limb felt paralyzed. He tried to scream, but his throat felt dry. The red eyes of the monster standing before him were practically piercing into his skull.
He never should have left.
"It is me." The figure rasped. Bracken couldn't see the figure's face, but somehow he knew it was grinning. It was grinning a horrible, evil grin. The red-eyed monster moved slightly, and now, Bracken was sure he was grinning, because now the lighting revealed a set of crooked, twisted teeth with dried blood on the ends, somewhat similar to a predator's.
Bracken, figuring out he could finally move again, scrambled away.
"You can't escape me." The monster's voice echoed around the whole forest. Bracken felt queasy, and every muscle in his body tensed. He was running, running away from the monster, but he knew that was what it wanted. It wanted for him to run, so it could chase him around, and finally, when Bracken was too tired to move, it would approach him ever so slowly, and rip his life away in one, single heartbeat.
Bracken looked around, realizing that he was alone. He relaxed, but something rustled in the bushes, making him jolt upright.
"I told you, you can't run little unicorn." The voice of the monster vibrated in his ears. The unicorn's heart pounded inside of him.
He knew he couldn't escape it.
