Disclaimer: Death Note was never been mine to begin with.

Hello there, it's nice to be back after 5 years of hiatus. This is my first time writing fanfiction in this fandom. I used to write UlquiHime only. Because we are currently in pandemic, I was thinking of coming back from my hiatus, but I'm not sure I can write UlquiHime anymore. So after checking my OTP list, I found that there are only few fanfics of non angst/ non tragedy LightXMisa. Then I was thinking to contribute. While writing this, I realize that is unlikely for me to get many responses since this fandom is not as popular as it has been once. Well, it's been more than a decade, what do I expect?

For the sake of writing happier nuance, the characters will be a bit OOC. And this will be AU.

As it has been so long since I last write fanfiction, please bear with me because I'm quite sure my writing style has been out of shape.

"Light-kun, your girlfriend is here…."

The handsome 23 years old Yagami Light stopped typing to give his colleague undivided attention.

"Who?" he simply asked in confusion.

The brilliant guy was sure he was not in a relationship currently. Well, the young Yagami was popular with ladies, but Light was never one to give attention to simple things such as relationship between man and woman. He was still young, there would be much time to think about that later.

The obsidian-eyed man couldn't help but tease the younger guy.

"Come on, blond hair, blue eyes. Ring a bell?" he chuckled a bit.

The brunette just huffed to his friend's delight.

"Matsuda-san, I've already told you Amane-san is not my girlfriend."

Matsuda just continued chuckling that it started to irritate Light. Seriously, why were they chatting like this when there were cases to investigate? People really needed to take their jobs seriously, the young Yagami thought.

"Sorry, Light-kun. But it's so funny. Any man would fight to be in your position right now. Imagine, having Misa-Misa heads over heels with you…" Matsuda answered. His eyes looked dreamy already.

Light decided not to answer his friend and reached for his blazer. He stopped to glance at Matsuda after taking only five steps.

"I will see her now. Please inform me if Chief is asking about me."

Matsuda just grinned and waved his hand.

There was no way he would allow anything to disturb Misa-Misa's quality time with the young Inspector. Besides, he was sure the Chief wouldn't mind if his brilliant son paid attention to things other than his job.

Those blue eyes unmistakably shone when Light came into the young woman's peripheral vision.

"Light-kunnnn" she waved enthusiastically.

The Inspector just sighed as he headed to where she was seating.

"Amane-san," he started when he reached her, "I told you to stop coming here to see me, and this is already six times for the past three months. It's still working hours, you know. And I don't think someone your status should come to this kind of place if there is nothing wrong. You don't want to feed media gossips, do you?"

The young idol just giggled.

"Please just call me Misa, Light-kun. No need to be so formal. And I don't think there is nothing wrong to be here. Let the media spread issues all they want. I just need to deny them if they start getting out of hand."

"Amane-san,"

"Misa" she cut stubbornly.

Light just sighed. Interacting with the young idol tired him. He was used to smart banter, but this woman was childish and a bit airheaded. Well, at least she was beautiful. Even he wouldn't deny that.

"Okay, Misa. Why are you here?" he asked impatiently.

Misa took his hand and gave him radiant smile.

"Let's go on date." she asked hopefully.

Light just pulled his hand from hers.

"Not now. I am working, and there is this case I'm busying over to work over." he answered uninterestedly.

The idol blinked her doe-liked eyes and smiled.

"Okay then."

The brunette guy stared at her.

"Where does your next schedule take place? Do you need me to take you there?" he offered.

Always a gentleman. This was one of the young Yagami qualities that made women fell for him.

"No need. My manager is here waiting. Now back to your work, Inspector!" she chirped.

Light was a bit reluctant to leave her, but Misa was insisting. After making sure he was out of her vision, Misa called for a cab. She couldn't help but sighed. Her manager was waiting for her in the agency. She was serious in taking Yagami Light to a date. Well, scratched that. She was serious in Yagami Light. Too bad he was not interested in someone like her.

Three months ago Misa and her manager asked for PSB's help. Her popularity was rising, and while she was happy for her growing career, it also caused the birth of obsessive fans. While Misa understood that was the consequence of being a public figure, she couldn't help but fear for her life because there was an obsessive fan that went too far by stalking her and sending her private photographs. Yagami Light was appointed to work on her case. After a week, the Chief's son successfully arrested the culprit.

It only took him a week to work on the case, and it only took a week for Misa to fall for the young Inspector. As an idol, she had her share of good looking men, but she thought Light was beyond his handsome look. Okay, his visage might pass him as a model, and he was charming and a gentleman. Not to mention his IQ was above average. He was famous in PSB not only as the Chief Inspector's son, but also young brilliant Inspector who could solve any cases, no matter how difficult they were.

Her attraction was beyond his physical. It was about his character. It was about his calm eyes. It was about him. He might mistake it as obsession, but Amane Misa was seriously in love with Yagami Light.

"Misa-Misa is not coming to see you?" L Lawliet, or widely known as Ryuzaki, asked Light one day.

Light raised one of his eyebrows at his best friend.

"I never know you are close."

L gave him a stare. The pale man snorted.

"Unlike you, I am more engaged in human relationship."

Light had to doubt him on that. He was sure L had no friend but him. Well, there were two sergeants directly under him that seemed to idolize the man a lot, but that aside, Light was the only one who could stand his eccentric behavior.

"Misa-Misa brought me a box of Ferrero the last time she visited" he continued.

The brunette rolled his eyes. Of course.

"If you want to see her that much just call her. Here, I will give you her number." he replied.

Light was checking his phone for her contact number only for L to stop him.

"Nah, I already have her number. I will contact her later."

The young Yagami's eyes widen, "You've already had her number? How?"

"What do you mean how. Of course I asked her myself." L countered boringly.

"She seemed like a good girl, you know. I hang out with her once. I can tell she is someone genuine."

The unruly haired man glanced at his friend, while Light just processed what he said. It was true that L was a good judge of character.

"Be a little nicer to her. She is not as airhead as you think."

The brunette showed his shocked face unknowingly. L threw a smart smirk before heading back to his cubicle.

Light couldn't concentrate. He was investigating a small case and his mind just couldn't focus. It had been three weeks since he last seen the blond idol. The same three weeks since he had any contact with the same woman. Usually it was Misa who called him almost every night, asking how his day went. Sometimes she only texted him if she had tight schedules. It was Misa that always initiated, never Light. Well, of course he didn't. By initiating it meant giving Misa a false hope, and Light had no intention to play with the blue-eyed idol's heart.

Light leaned back to his chair and sighed. Since when he started to care? It was all Ryuzaki's fault for messing with his head and giving him idea of possible relationship.

As far as he knew, Light was not asexual. He dated a couple of times back in high school and college years. He usually preferred sophisticated women over a simple one. But none of his relationship stayed longer than a few months.

He was convinced that he didn't need to indulge in romantic relationship currently. He was the youngest Inspector of PSB. His father was the Chief. People expected big things from him and Light was never the one who drew back from challenge.

He remembered when he first saw Misa. The young idol cheerfully greeted him even though she was currently in a bad predicament herself with her obsessive fan stalking her for about a week already. Misa was technically not a stranger for Light. His younger sister was a big fan of her since her debut two years ago. Not to mention her face could practically be seen in any media. Public seemed to like her. But Light didn't think he was part of the said public. Misa was barely his type, saved for her pretty face. He was never someone superficial to begin with.

When Misa asked him for a date for the very first time, he declined. Light was professional and he didn't want to be romantically linked to his client. Misa bothered him every single day after that. He knew he would regret to give her his number, but it was needed to work her case.

Light was initially annoyed, until he relented and agreed for going to a date with Misa, just for one time. But he needed to admire her charm and stubbornness. Even he was not immune to that. That was the sole reason for him to agree to a dinner with her a week after. Or lunch a few days after that. And accompanying her to cinema on one Saturday. And several dinners after that.

Well, he was not immune to her charm. And cuteness. And childish antics.

Right, Light still couldn't focus.

"Have you called Amane-san?"

L was busy eating his muffin when his best friend asked him that question.

"Misa-Misa?"

The brunette only nodded.

"Yep. It turned out she was abroad shooting for her new MV. That's why she couldn't visit." the pale man answered.

"Oh really?"

Light tried to appear disinterested. He then cleared his throat.

"So when will she back?"

L smirked inwardly. The young Yagami showed his indifferent face when inwardly he was eager to dig newest information about the idol girl.

"Actually Misa-Misa already back in town since last week." he replied.

Light was unconsciously bit his lower lip and his best friend could see that. The Chief's son was clearly upset.

"If you want to see her that much just call her." L countered, giving him the exact same response as the young man in front of him gave him about a week ago.

Light coughed. L chuckled.

Someone needed to give the almighty Yagami Light the taste of his own medicine.

Misa was taking a break from her photo shoot when she checked her phone. Her doe-like eyes widen when she read the text from very familiar number.

'Misa, are you busy tomorrow? What do you think about quick dinner?'

She had to smile at that.

'Of course. Is the usual place at seven good?' she simply replied.

Light read her text and sighed in relief. He smiled while typing an 'ok'. Light was never someone to initiate in relationship, but no one knew he painstakingly arrange the words for more than half an hour just to ask a certain idol girl for a simple dinner.

Light run hurriedly to a certain cafe. He had been already two hours late for his dinner appointment with the lovely Miss Amane. He should have known it, he was a workaholic. Light was busy with his work until Ryuzaki came and reminded him about his date with the young idol. Misa herself didn't call and text him to ask where he was. After deliberating, Light decided to run to the appointed place without giving her a call or text. It was not that far from PSB building, he could reach that in fifteen minutes knowing how fit he was. Light felt guilty. It was his fault. So he was not perfect after all, he was just human, not God.

The young Inspector reached the place after thirteen minutes of running without stopping once. He bet Misa was mad at him. Who was he kidding, any woman would be mad in that position. He was even sure that the young blonde already left the place and blocked his number. He couldn't blame her for that.

Light sighed. This wouldn't work.

Imagine his surprise when he saw the certain woman sat alone in the corner of the cozy café while fumbling with her phone.

"Misa..." he began when he finally stood on the other side of her table.

The young woman raised her face, and Light could see her face automatically brighten beautifully, since the moment her blue eyes fell on him.

"Oh Light-kun, you are here! I thought something happen to you but then I realized that you might be so busy and work overtime again. Seriously, you should take care of yourself more. I was deliberating to give you a call but I don't want to bother you so I decide just to wait. I know you will come." Misa babbled then gave him a dazzling smile.

Light just stared at her, transfixed. Misa furrowed her eyebrows in concern when she realized his state.

"Light-kun, what happened? Why are you perspiring a lot?"

Light, done with his transfixed state, finally answered her in genuine dazzling smile.

"Thank you for waiting for me, Misa."

"There are several photos of you and a young man holding hands recently in media. Are you currently in a relationship, Misa-Misa?"

"Yes, Misa-Misa is happily in a steady relationship."

The young blonde smiled vibrantly and winked at the camera. A certain brunette chuckled when he watched the talkshow on TV.
