I remember tears streaming down your face when I said I'll never let you go

"Alright kid, listen to me."

Eda was supposed to be here. Safe. Away from the clutches of her sister and the Emperor's Coven. She would be waiting at the door to surprise her protégé with a gift. In return, Luz would smile back with a gift of her own.

Eda would get to hear about how Luz managed to pull off a heist inside one of the most heavily guarded places in the Boiling Isles and stole one of the relics with help from her friends. A relic which wouldn't have healed Eda's curse, but at least the witch would've known the lengths Luz was willing to go for her.

Eda would've ruffled her hair affectionately, with a sly smile and brush off Luz's disappointment by brightening the mood with the gift she had made the teen herself. A cape made just for her. Of course, Eda would say in her own way how much adored the kid she somehow managed to adopt over the course of a month and receive a hug from her student that would probably crush her ribcage a bit.

A celebration would follow, one that would commemorate how far Luz had come as a witch. They'd laugh over how King would claim the cake for himself because he hid in it. Eda would take Luz away from King's rant of him being the king of cake and voice how proud she was of her apprentice. Luz would hug her again, probably with some tears in her eyes and thank her for believing in her when no one else in her life had. For teaching her it's okay to be weird and different and she didn't need to conform to society's standards for anyone. Eda would've snorted and casually remark she would always be there for her kid.

Luz couldn't believe how wrong it had all gone.

When all those shadows almost killed your light

"I'm going away and I don't know if I can bounce back this time."

All it took was for King's blissful innocence of the situation to send the teenager into a heap on the floor and start sobbing. They wouldn't know. How could she tell them she lost Eda? How could she tell them she had no idea how to fix this?

She knew Eda's curse was unstable. She believed she could fix it. She honestly thought the answer was within reach and she could repay Eda for everything she's done.

The only payback Eda received was a fate worse than death and imprisonment in the one place she never wanted to be in. All because she came after Luz. She knew she was walking directly into a trap and went because Luz had meant more to her than her own well being.

It was her fault. The only thing her mind refused to shut up about was the fact Eda's capture had been her fault. Eda could be gone forever, stuck in her beast form for the rest of her life because she used the last of her power to save Luz.

It was all her fault. If she hadn't been stupid enough to think she could steal something like a magical relic and not get caught, Eda would still be here. If she hadn't decided to sneak away from her tour group, she wouldn't have gotten caught. If she didn't go on the field trip, Eda would've been at the Owl House with King waiting for her to come home.

It was her fault. She was always rushing into situations and always ended up in over her head. She always bit off more than she could chew and someone always needed to fix her mistakes. If she had just learned and listened then it could've been prevented. If she hadn't been so stubborn and seen the realistic point of view, then maybe her mistake wouldn't have come with the cost of someone close to her.

Luz tried. She tried to explain to King what happened, but her voice was restricted by wails of heartbreak and her mind raced with thoughts of blame. She didn't know if she should be sad or angry, but the overwhelming emotions caused her to feel a mix of everything at once.

She wanted to rip Lilith's hair out, shove her off the bridge Luz herself had almost met her demise at the bottom of. At least she managed to choke the dark haired witch, even if it was for a fraction of a second. It was surprising Lilith didn't kill her right after, but perhaps letting Luz deal with the aftermath was worse than death.

She wanted to cry and scream until her throat hurt and she couldn't shed anymore tears. She wanted to drown out the voices in her head dragging her down into a whirlpool of emotions. She was feeling too much at once and wanted to let it out until she felt nothing.

I remember you said don't leave me here alone

"Watch over King, remember to feed Hooty."

"Please, No!"

As she fell apart on the floor while King and Hooty desperately tried to hold her together, she prayed that something, anything, would bring Eda back to them so this whole mess could be fixed.

She wanted Eda here more than anything in the world. Eda would know what to do. Eda would comfort her in the way she does, where it's laid back and there's no chiding for making mistakes. She could cling onto Eda and cry about how badly she messed up.

She didn't want to be alone like this again. She didn't want Eda's sacrifice to be the last interaction they had. She wanted to scream at Eda how the witch was the mother she wished she had. How Eda was everything she needed her to be and more. She didn't want to say goodbye.

As she held onto King like a lifeline, she wasn't an apprentice under the most powerful witch of the Boiling Isles, but a scared fourteen year old whose entire life had fallen apart and had no idea how to fix it.

But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight

"And Luz, thank you for being in my life."

King and Luz occupied Eda's nest for their own comfort. Familiar signs of the witch made them feel safe.

Luz had run out of tears to cry. As she laid curled up into a ball holding onto King, she mused on Eda's farewell. Her mentor hadn't told her to leave, unlike the attempted child murder who cursed her own sister. Eda told her to look after the house, Hooty, and King. She trusted Luz would stay. She would.

She found her heart clenching at the idea of Eda believing she had done nothing but wasted her magic until Luz came along. It meant that the only good thing Eda believed she had done was teach this fantasy loving child how to become a proper witch. That Luz, becoming a daughter to this lonely witch, was the best thing to ever happen in Eda's life.

Just close your eyes,

Luz let out a sigh as she felt her eyes grow heavy from the exhaustion of crying and finally allowing her mind and body to catch up with her. She was only human after all.

you'll be alright.

She wasn't convinced yet that she could fix her mistake, but believed it was worth a shot. She wasn't the same socially awkward shy kid she was at the start of summer. She had gained a mother figure, a demon as a best friend, and three witches who would literally ride or die with her. She managed to learn magic on her own and change a school system so she could study all coven types. She was strong enough to do this.

Come morning light,

It was a new day today. What happened in the past doesn't matter. They were going to rescue Eda from the coven. Luz was a witch. Eda trained her to be a witch. The most powerful witch anyone has ever met believed in a teenage human that she could do the impossible.

you and I'll be safe and sound.

She was going to get Eda back, and there was nothing in this world that could stop her.

A/N: Yeah, so I cried while writing this. It's almost three am so yeah, I'm kinda tired but my brain wouldn't let me sleep till I got this done. Agony of a Witch killed me inside and then I heard this song and wanted to write a fantic with inspiration from said song. This was also my very first songfic. Not sure if I like it. But, try something new.
