Chapter Two

Let the fun begin

Searching down the path, Sam was happy to see Daniel walking towards her carrying a small chest. She had become concerned for him when the wind was beginning to pick up. "Daniel," Sam said. "We were about to leave. That storm is going to be bigger than I predicted. We need to go now."

"Are you taking the chest back, Daniel Jackson?" Teal'c asked him.

"Yes, Teal'c. I'm going to bring it back to my lab."

"May I help you carry it?"

"NO!" Daniel shouted. Realizing he said it a bit to forceful, he apologetically smiled. "It's not heavy, Teal'c. I can manage."

"Very well." Teal'c bowed his head and picked up his backpack.

"Okay, campers," Jack said. "We are now leaving Camp-sweat-a lot. When we get back home, I'm going to crank my air conditioner to eleven."

An hour later, they were walking down the ramp in Star Gate Command.

"Close the iris," General Hammond declared from the bottom of the ramp. "Welcome home, SG1."

"Good to be back, sir," Jack said. "And I have to say, I'll never complain about summer again."

Hammond chuckled; he saw they were covered in sweat. "I imagine you're all happy to be home."

"If you'll excuse me, General," Jack said. "I'm going to sit inside one of the freezers in the lunchroom. Care to join me, Teal'c?"

"O'Neill, I would be…"

Jack patted Teal'c on the shoulder. "Joke, Teal'c."

"Indeed," Teal'c said, as they walked out of the gate room.

Hammond pointed to the small chest Daniel carried. "Doctor Jackson, what do you have there?"

Daniel blinked. He realized he was holding a chest. A chest he wasn't going to bring back. "Uh, it contains artifacts found at the site, sir. I'm, I'm just going to take them to my lab for studying."

"Why don't you change clothes and rest a bit first, son? I'm sure you're exhausted from all that heat."

"Yes, sir," Daniel said. "I am. When I cool down, I guess I'll start examining these." He quickly left the gate room, leaving Sam with Hammond.

"Sir," Sam said. "If you don't mind, I'm going to stop off at the lab and see if they were able to scan the sample of the box we found on the planet."

"Very well, Major. I'll go with you; I was headed there anyway."

Daniel swiftly walked through the corridors of the facility. Coming to his room, he carried the chest inside. Placing it on the floor, he stared at the chest.

"Why did I bring you back?"

Shaking it off, he went to a small sink. Taking his glasses off he splashed his face with the cool water. He yawned widely as he put his glasses back on. He didn't realize just how tired he was from the heat.

"The heat," he took in a deep breath. "Had to be the heat. I'll just rest for a while; I should feel better."

As he rested on his bed, the lid on the chest slowly opened. Coyotl quietly climbed out of the chest and jumped on the bed. Feeling something on his bed, Daniel opened his eyes. He saw Coyotl, on his bed!

"Hi, Daniel!" Coyotl started jumping on the bed. "This is great, is this your room? I like all the things you have in here."

"Coyotl! No, you can't be here. If Jack finds out he'll kill me." Daniel could swear he saw Coyotl's eyes sparkle as he was sitting up. He heard Coyotl say, "Stay down."

He promptly fell back on the bed. He became alarmed when he found he couldn't get up. Coyotl sat on the bed next to him. Staring at Daniel, his whole body began to shimmer. His color changed, he grew larger, hair began to grow on his head. When the glow died down, Daniel couldn't believe his eyes. Coyotl changed into a perfect copy of himself. A perfect naked copy.

"You're me," Daniel said. "How?" He struggled to sit up, but his body just wouldn't listen.

Grinning Coyotl jumped off the bed. "I've always liked your bodies, such a simple shape." He looked down at himself. "I can't go out like this, it's too cold here."

Coyotl went to Daniels closet. "Look at all the colors." He searched through the hanging clothes. "Boring, boring, same boring. Yes! I really like this." He picked the desert camouflage pants and shirt.

Daniel continued his struggle to get up as he saw Coyotl dressing.

"What are you? Why are you doing this, how are you doing this?" Daniel gave up, he was just not getting up.

"If you know the names of my brothers, then you know me. I am, Huehecóyotl."

Daniel had to think. "Aztec mythology, the coyote trickster. He was a minor god, the god of mischief, a shapeshifter." Now Daniel knew how he was able to look like him.

Coyotl's brows furrowed in anger. "Minor god! That's how they remember me? I have another name, Hunahpu."

"The twins, you were one of the hero twins Hunahpu and Xbalanque, from Mayan mythology. The mix up, of Mayan and Aztec, they are connected. But you're a god? Like…a god?"

"God like," he said with a grin. "We're explorers, like you. We came here thousands of years ago. The Mayans, and Aztecs worshiped us."

"I met Quetzalcoatl in a giant pyramid on another world."

Coyotl angrily pulled his shirt on. "Quetzalcoatl, he's a giant windbag. And the others, they were all so serious. They never let me have any fun. They choose to hide. Not me, I liked it here, I liked the people. Then they…he..."

Daniel saw his face twisted with anger. As quick as it was there, it was gone. Coyotl warmly smiled. "I've been gone a long time, but thanks to you, I'm back."

Finished dressing, he stood in front of Daniel. "How do I look, like my clothes?"

Daniel blinked. "I never realized that they bring out my eyes."

"Now, I just need to finish my disguise." He took Daniel's glasses and put them on.

Finding a vest, he pulled it on. "Oooo, I like all the sticky pockets." He opened and closed the Velcro pockets.

"Wait, your legend says that you played tricks on humans. Is that why you're here?"

Laughing like a child he said, "Humans are so easy to trick."

"But the tricks you pulled; it was said they always backfired."

Coyotl frowned. "Not all of them, some were great tricks. I came here to have fun, Daniel. To have so much fun again."

"No, you won't, JACK, TEAL'C!" Daniel shouted.

Daniel saw Coyotl's eyes sparkle. "Sleep, Daniel."

"No…" Daniel mumbled. "Don't…" His eyes slowly closed as he fell into a deep sleep.

Coyotl gently lay his hand on Daniel's shoulder. "Sleep, Daniel. I would never harm you; you risked your life to save me. You are my friend; I don't hurt friends. I'm not like my brothers. When I leave this world, I may make you my ya-te-aj. Now sleep, I'll be back."

Walking to the door Coyotl rubbed his hands with glee. "I'm so excited. A new place to explore and have some fun."

Opening the door, Coyotl quickly left Daniel's room. With a large grin, he walked down the corridors. Two soldiers were walking towards him.

"Doctor Jackson," both of them said, with a nod. Coyotl saw the names Peters and Spears on their pockets.

Coyotl's eyes sparkled. "Peters, are you going to let him talk to you like that?"

Peters shoved Spears. "What the hell did you say that for?"

"Don't let him get away with that, Spears," Coyotl whispered to him.

Spears pushed Peters into the wall. "I didn't say a damn thing."

Seeing Jack coming towards them, Coyotl turned and walked away. "Hey, Peters, Spears," Jack shouted, as he ran down the hallway. "At ease." He pushed them apart. "What's going on, privates?"

Peters and Spears blinked their eyes. Looking at Jack, they both came to attention.

"Sorry, sir.," Peters said.

Spears looked confused. "I don't know what happened, sir."

"Well, don't let it happen again."

They saluted Jack, "Yes, sir."

As they walked away, Jack could swear he heard someone giggling.

Coyotl slowly walked down the hallway. He searched for something he could use to cause more mischief. Spying an air duct, he opened his hands. He held a small green plant in his palm. He gently pushed it through the vents.

Tucking his hands in his pockets, he continued down the corridor. Turning a corner, he gulped. He saw the frowning man that had a golden symbol on his forehead. The one Daniel called, Teal'c.

"I am glad to have run into you, Daniel Jackson," Teal'c said.

"Teal'c, um, why are you glad?"

"General Hammond wishes to meet with us, as well as the rest of SG1."

Coyotl hooked his arm in Teal'c's. "Well let's go."

Frowning, Teal'c gently pulled his arm out, and led the way. Coyotl's eyes sparkled. "Teal'c, you should smile more."

Teal's lips curled into a large grin. Reaching up, he tried to pull the ends of his mouth down. Giving up for now, he continued walking to the briefing room. Coyotl happily followed Teal'c. Climbing the metal staircase that led to the briefing room, Coyotl leaned over the bannister and looked down.

"Hello," he shouted. Walter spun his chair around. He saw Daniel Jackson practically falling off the metal bannister. He was waving at him. His eyes sparkled as he whispered, "Sorry you can't stop burping."

"Hello, Doctor Jackson," Walter softly replied, with a small wave back. Facing the gate room, Walter burped.

Coyotl resumed climbing the staircase. He giggled as he heard burping coming from below. Reaching the top, he saw the others were waiting for him, plus someone new.

"Doctor Jackson," General Hammond said. "Will you join us?"

"Okay, but won't that hurt?"

"Sit, please," Hammond said.

"Oh, yes, sit. I can do that." He stifled a laugh, when he heard Sam say, "Teal'c, why are you smiling like that?"

"Daniel," Jack said. "Plan on going to the beach?" He pointed to his clothes.

Coyotl rubbed his hand on his sleeve and smiled. "I like the colors. They bring out my eyes." He walked to one of the empty chairs. Sitting down, he was pleased to find that the chair was on wheels. Leaning back, he spun the chair around.

"Daniel," Jack said.

"What?" Coyotl sung.

"We're having a meeting here."

"And?"

"Eyes forward," Jack sternly said.

"Okay." Coyotl spun around. Happily grinning, he saw a pen. He quickly snatched it up and put it in one of the vests pockets.

"Now," General Hamond said. "I've asked you all here because we've just received a report about the metal from that box found on P2H-529, Major Carter."

"Yes, sir. We were finally able to get a reading on the spectrometer. We found traces of carbon, naquadah and Osmium. Osmium is the densest material found on earth. This metal is like nothing we've ever seen before. It's the hardest densest we've ever encountered. If we can find a way to fabricate it, it could help us in our war with the Goulds."

"Thank you, Major Carter, Doctor Jackson," Hammond said. Coyotl was staring at the spiral staircase.

"Doctor Jackson," Hammond said.

"Daniel!" Jack shouted.

Coyotl realized they were talking to him. He spun around. "What?"

Looking confused, Hammond said, "Doctor Jackson, we're going to need you to step up on translating the glyphs on that box. It may give us a key to who made it."

"Translate the box?" A small grin grew on Coyotyl's face. "That's important, isn't it."

"Yes, it is."

Coyotyl's grin grew wider. "That means, I'm important, in what I do."

"Yes, you are an important member of SG1."

Coyotl pointed at General Hammond. "Does it hurt you to talk like that?"

Hammond was taken aback. "Excuse me?"

"See, you did it again. You sound different, does it hurt…"

"Daniel," Jack said.

"…you to talk like that?"

"Daniel!"

"And your head, and Teal'c's, did it hurt…"

"DANIEL!" Jack shouted.

"WHAT!" Coyotl screamed back.

"Daniel, for the love of…" Jack didn't have time to finish his sentence. A call blasted over the intercom. "General Hammond, this is private Peters. There's been an incident, actually several in the corridors."

Hammond punched the intercom. "What is it, soldier?"

"Well, sir. You're not going to believe it, but four men say they were attacked by, by giant green vines growing out of the air ducts."

Coyotl had to spin around in his chair to keep the others from seeing him laughing. Jack jumped up out of his chair. "This sounds familiar, sir. I'll get right on it. Daniel," he pointed to Coyotl. "Later."

Coyotl spun in his chair, he waved at Jack. "Bye, Jack, later."

"I guess the meeting is over then," Hammond said. "Dismissed."

Jack and Teal'c rushed out of the room. Standing, Coyotl rubbed his hands. "Well that was a great meeting. Now I'll just go and start working on that translation."

"You do that, Doctor Jackson," Hammond said, in a deadly voice.

Coyotl placed his hands in his pockets. He cheerfully whistled as he walked up the spiral staircase. Sam was about to get up, until she heard a swishing sound. She saw Daniel sliding down the bannister.

Reaching the bottom, he looked at Sam. "What? Don't tell me you never did that before." He happily smiled, "Sam, you have got to try it." Getting a confused look, he pointed to the exit door, he tried to look serious. "Translations."

Coyotl received concerned stares, as he walked out of the conference room.

"Major Carter," Hammond said. "Did something happen to Doctor Jackson on P2H-529 that you haven't told me?"

Sam shook her head. "General, I really don't know. Daniel does seem a bit…"

"Off," both said.

"I'll keep an eye on him, sir."

"You do that."
