Po was currently walking around the Valley. The guards at the Valley gateway were kind enough to give him a speedy entry to re-supply, so re-supply he would. The marketplace was rather calm compared to other towns he had been to. Although that is probably why it is called the Valley of Peace. The large panda towered over the citizens that milled around the street, causing many a curious stare to focus on him. But that's okay, tall creatures such as himself were rare in cities such as this so it was not unusual for Po to receive such attention.
Seeing a common goods store, Po moved over to the side of the street when a delicious scent entered his nose. 'NOODLES!' Swiftly turning back to where the scent originated, Po saw a small-ish courtyard. Tables were set inside that many families were enjoying meals on. All of which consisted of either a bowl of steaming noodles or a bowl of dumplings. Behind the counter of the shop stood a duck. The duck was happily chopping away at vegetables for customer's orders.
Po ordered a bowl of noodles himself and sat at an empty table on a far table. The duck appeared soon after dropping a large bowl of noodles onto his table. "Well, that must be the largest bowl I've had all day!" the duck joked. "You must be new around here; I'd remember a face like that."
Po smiled at the duck. 'So, he doesn't remember. Probably for the best.' "Yup. Just got here today. That path on the mountain is a pain on the knees!" Po joked back. "I wouldn't know, never had to climb it." The duck replied. "Well, as a citizen of the Valley, allow me to welcome you properly. I am Mr Ping." The duck held out his small wing for the panda to shake.
"Nice to meet you, thanks." Po said as he shook the smaller creatures wing, engulfing it with his paw.
"Well, I'll leave you to your food. Enjoy!" And like that he was gone, back to the kitchen to banter with other customers. 'Some things never change, do they?' Po continued with his meal, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and the sounds of families enjoying their food with the consistent clicking of a knife hitting a chopping board. Almost half an hour later, Po noticed two more people enter the restaurant, a pig and a duck. Both were dressed in high quality robes, green cloth with gold accents. The duck quickly plastered a poster onto the inner wall whilst the pig bashed a gong they brought with them.
The poster showed the image of a sun rising behind a team of five warriors: a tiger, a crane, a monkey, a viper and what looked like a mantis, though it was hard to tell with the small image. Written in kanji across the poster read, "All gather in the Jade Palace. Master Oogway will choose one of the Furious Five to become the Dragon Warrior!" Most of the families quickly began packing up to leave, likely for the palace, though some remained to finish their meals. Po however was deep in thought.
'What luck! I wonder who Oogway will choose? Probably her, Shifu has always had a problem with over-training tigers. Should be fun to watch.'
With his mind made up, Po finished off his meal, leaving the bowl on the side of the kitchen as he went (Mr Ping left already to see the dragon Warrior selection) before leaving the restaurant well after the announcement was made. The streets seemed to be empty now. 'Wow, everyone sure left quickly. Must be really excited about this selection.' Now Po was starting to look forward to it more. The festivities put on by the Jade Palace were few and were known throughout China to be the most wonderous showcasing of Kung-Fu anywhere.
Thirty Minutes of Stair Climbing Later…
'I. HATE. STAIRS!' Po thought as he reached the top of the Palace stairs, panting with his hands on his knees. With his rotund- and all natural- state of body, stairs had and always will be one of his greatest weaknesses. Just the thought of having to climb them again caused him to shudder with anxiety and fear!
Looking up from the ground, Po looked to see the gates of the palace closed. He was too late! All that climbing for NOTHING. Po could hear the festival going on in the place courtyard, loud cheering for a 'Mantis'. Probably the small one on the poster. Looking around, Po could see he wasn't alone in his suffering. A piglet seemed to be despaired at not getting in and tried making a ladder to watch over the wall. Amused by the display, Po sat down on the floor and watched the pig try and get in, whilst listening to the cheers of the crowd.
The pig, inevitably, gave up after many more attempts-How did they even manage to pull down a tree? - and sat down on the stairs, glum and sulking. A loud voice then rung out, "Master Oogway will now choose the Dragon Warrior!" The pig then quickly shot up, looking for a way to see who was chosen. Po, for his part, also wanted to see his choice. It was bound to be a spectacle at the very least and may not be announced aloud. Though Po was definitely concerned when the young pig began roping fireworks to a chair the lighting each one.
Po decided that that was definitely too much. He didn't want the small pig to be turned into porkchops after all! "Kid, stop!"
The pig turned over to Po, surprised that he was being watched. "Mister, you don't understand, Master Oogway is about to choose the DRAGON WARRIOR! This will never happen again, and I need to see this!"
"Okay, but is seeing this worth dying over?" Po gestured to the large number of fireworks strapped to the chair legs, which was still burning. "If the heat from those don't cook you, the fall from that height will definitely finish you off."
The child's eyes widened as he realised what was about to happen. The pig quickly jumped off the chair but was not quick enough. The chair was about to go into the sky, with a rope around the pig's chest! Po, acting fast, ripped the rope off the pig but forgot to let go as he was dragged up into the sky instead.
Fifty feet into the air, the fireworks went off, eliciting a large amount of oooh's and ahhh's. After the beautiful array of colour went off, the chair and rope that Po held onto disintegrated. And gravity made itself known once again, as he fell directly inside the courtyard of the Jade Palace and smacked his head on the ground.
A/N So, I have another chapter of this up. This one is really coming quick to me so expect more of these to appear before Lost and Found. Hope you enjoyed! Also thanks LegoFiend12 for following me, sorry that's a bit late.
