Shades Of Gray-Ch 14
After what seemed like hours the door opened to Penelopes room and Natalie stepped out, Derek said, "how is she"?, Natalie said, "we were able to revive her, she's stable for now". Reid said, "what do you mean for now, what's happening"?, Natalie said, "we need to get her back to surgery, I'm afraid that a fragment of the bullet could have shifted causing more stress on her body which caused her cardiac arrest".
Derek said, "so what are you going to do"?, Natalie said, "hopefully find and remove the fragment", Derek looked at her and said, "what are Penelpoes chances"?, Natalie said, "if we don't find the fragment she won't make it through the night". Reid said, "and if you can find and remove the fragment"?, Natalie said, "her chances improve immensely".
They stepped aside as Penelopes bed was pushed out into the hallway, Derek said, "can I see her before you take her down"?, Natalie nodded her head and said, "but only for a few seconds". Derek stepped over and kissed her on the forehead and ran his hand over her hair and said, "I love you and I need you to fight for me and our daughter".
Natalie said, "I'm sorry but we really need to go" and Derek stepped back and watched as the love of his life disappeared out of sight as she went through the double doors at the end of the hall. Fran pulled her son into her arms and said, "she's going to be okay, it's Penelope we're talking about".
Derek said, "she was fine and then she started taking a seizure, I can't lose her ma", Fran said, "why don't we go back up and see the baby"?, Derek nodded his head and said, "why don't we all go"?, the others weakly smiled as they followed Derek and Fran toward the elevator that led to the NICU.
Derek and Dave walked through the door and after being gowned and masked they made their way over to the incubator and Dave looked down at the little girl and said, "pictures don't do her justice, she's gorgeous".
Derek said, "she looks like her momma so of course she's beautiful", Dave put his hand on his step sons shoulder and said, "kitten is going to be fine and in no time she's going to be back to her old self" and Derek nodded his head and said, "from your lips man, from your lips" as they stood looking down at the baby.
Fran watched her son through the window and said, "if he loses Penelope I don't know what will happen to him", JJ said, "he's not going to lose her, they have a life time of memories, good memories still to make". Emily said, "Jayje is right, we all know PG and she's not going to give up, not now, not that she has the man of her dreams and a beautiful little girl".
Reid said, "I agree, Garcia is a fighter and she's going to be fine, their is no other outcome", Hotch smiled as he watched Dave and Derek with the baby. After a few minutes Dave came out and Hotch went inside to see the baby, he looked up at Derek and said, "she looks like her mommy doesn't she"?, Derek sighed happily and said, "she sure does, it's baby girls mini me" and both men laughed before their attention then turned back to the adorable baby in front of them.
A few minutes later Hotch walked out and Emily walked in, she quickly gowned and masked up and headed toward Derek, when she looked down at the baby she said, "you and PG did good, she's amazing".
Derek looked up at Emily and said, "thanks Em", Emily said, "she's going to be fine, they are both going to be Derek nodded his head and said, "I can't lose them Em", Emily said, "look at me Derek", he looked at her and she said, "you're not going to lose them, not either of them, they are going to be fine and you are going to spend the rest of your life making good happy memories with them and any other little hotstuffs and baby girls that come along".
Derek smiled and said, "thanks, I needed to hear that", Emily said, "we're all here for you and we will always and I mean always have your back", he grinned again and then turned all of his attention back to his daughter.
