Shades Of Gray-Ch 15
Derek and the rest of the family spent a few more minutes with the baby and then made their way back to the waiting room across from Penelopes room and they had only been sitting there a few minutes before Natalie walked into the room and said, "we were able to successfully find and remove the small piece that had lodged close to her heart".
Derek stood up and said, "is she"?, Natalie said, "she's doing good, she's stable and all of her vitals are doing great", Derek and the others blew out a breath they didn't know they were holding. Natalie said, "she's in recovery and will be there for a few hours and then we'll be bringing her right back to her room across the hall".
Fran said, "we will be able to stay with her, right"?, Natalie said, "yes of course, that won't be a problem", Reid said, "now that you were able to find and remove what was causing her the problem how long before she wakes up"?, Natalie said, "that depends on her, she has been through not one but three major traumas, she was shot, she had a C-section and surgery and after all of that trauma her body needs time to heal".
Natalie looked at Derek and said, "her chances have greatly improved now so all we can do is wait for her to wake up", Derek said, "will she be able to have more babies if she wants to"?, Natalie said, "I see no reason why she couldn't, I didn't see any damage during the surgery that would prevent her having as many babies as the two of you wanted".
Derek smiled and said, "thank you", Natalie said, "you're very welcome", Derek sighed and sat back down and ran his hand over his face, his baby girl was going to be okay". Everybody looked up to see Sarah and Desiree walking toward them, Sarah said, "how are Penelope and the baby doing"?, Derek and Fran took a few minutes to get them caught up on everything.
They had just finished explaining everything to the girls when a doctor walked over to them and said, "Derek Morgan"?, he stood up and said, "that's me". The man held out his hand and said, "my name is Sean Homes and I'm your daughters primary physician", Derek instantly panicked and Sean quickly calmed him down by saying, "she's alright, she's alright".
Derek sat back down and Sean sat down beside him and said, "her condition is slowly improving", Derek said, "meaning"? and Sean said ,"she's doing better but she's still 6 weeks early, she's under weight and her lungs aren't fully developed". Derek and the others listened as he said, "but all signs are pointing that things are moving in the right directions".
Fran said, "any indication of when we will get to hold the baby"?, Sean said, "I'd say it will be a few more days, but I want to encourage all of the contact you can give her because right now she needs that as much as you do". Derek smiled and said, "we've already been up there a few times today".
Sean smiled and said, "good, good", he stood up and started walking away and Derek said, "Sean"?, the man turned around and looked at Derek and said, "yes". Derek said, "is my daughter going to be alright"?, Sean smiled and said, "I see no reason why she can't make a full recovery and be as good as new by the time she gets to go home".
Fran said, "any idea when that might be"?, Sean said, "I'd say that will be several weeks, we need to get her weight up and make sure that her lungs are doing better before we send her home". Derek and the others nodded their heads and said, "thank you", Sean smiled and said, "you're very welcome" before turning around and heading back up the hall.
Derek ran his hand over his head and said, "now if only baby girl would wake up ", Desi hugged her brother and said, "everything is going to be fine big brother, you'll see". Derek smiled and sighed happily as for the first time in a few days he was optimistic that things were falling into place for him and his baby girls.
