Shades Of Gray-Ch 16
Over the next few days Penelopes condition continued to improve but she still hadn't woke up, Derek stayed by her bed almost constantly, he only left her bedside to go see the baby in the NICU or to grab a quick shower in the doctors on call room. She was never alone, somebody from the team or Dereks mom or sisters was always with her.
The baby was getting stronger every day and Derek was in hopes that he would actually get to hold her today for the first time since she was born. He was beyond excited at the prospects of getting to hold his baby girl, he was currently sitting by Penelopes bedside holding her hand.
He blew out a deep breath and said, "I might get to hold our daughter today, she is getting better and stronger everyday", he then brought her hand to his lips and kissed it and said, "I love you baby girl, I love you so much". He closed his eyes and said, "please come back to me, to us".
A few minutes later he was pulled from his thoughts when he heard Sean walk into the room and clear his throat, Derek looked up at him and said, "is the baby okay"?, Sean nodded his head and said, "she's more than fine". Derek smiled and said, "does this mean"? and Sean grinned and said, "would you like to hold your daughter"?, Derek looked down at Penelope and then back up at Sean and said, "I would love to".
Derek stood up and then leaned over and kissed his wife on the forehead and said, "I love you, I'm going to go see the baby but don't worry I'll be right back". Just as he was walking toward the door his mom and sisters were getting ready to walk in, Fran said, "is everything okay honey"?, Derek hugged her and said, "more than fine momma, I'm on my way to hold my daughter for the first time since she was born".
Fran grinned and said, "awwww baby boy that's wonderful, kiss her for us", Derek said, "I will momma, I will", he then turned and took one final glance at his beautiful wife before following Sean out of the room. After Derek was gowned and masked he was led over to a rocking chair that was sitting by his daughters incubator.
He sat down and smiled as his daughters nurse of the day Chelsea handed him the baby and said, "here you go Derek", Derek beamed with pride as he held her in his arms. Chelsea said, "is their anything I can do for you"?, Derek said, "can you take a few pictures for me and maybe a movie, they're for me and my wife".
Chelsea said, "of course" as she took the cell phone out of Dereks hand, she took a few pictures and smiled as she filmed him kissing the baby on the top of the head. Derek said, "my little angel, daddy and mommy love you so much, so does the rest of our amazing, amazing family".
He kissed his daughter again on the cheek and said, "and this is from your nana Fran, she is going to take great pleasure in spoiling you rotten, of that I have no doubts". Derek sighed happily and said, "you have an amazing momma just like I do, our mothers love us and would do anything in this world to keep us safe and make us happy".
As he sat rocking her he couldn't help but smile knowing that his daughter was well on her way to recovery.
