Shades Of Gray-Ch 18
Derek had been holding the baby for quite a while and he heard something he thought he would never hear, he heard his daughter cry and it sounded beautiful, so so beautiful. Chelsea was thankfully still recording that wonderful sound, he looked up at her and said, "did you hear that, she cried, she cried".
Chelsea said, "I did, I heard it and I recorded it for you" as she waved his cell in front of her, he then looked down at his daughter and said, "I can't wait to take you and your mommy home". He continued holding his baby girl for a few more minutes before Chelsea took her from his arms and laid her back down gently in her incubator./div
He stood grinning at her for a few minutes and then said, "daddy will be back sweetie, I'm gonna go check on your mommy", he then looked at Chelsea and said, "thank you for taking the pictures and video for me". She said, "no problem at all Derek" she then grinned as she watched him excitedly turn around and walk out of the nursery.
Fran and the girls were sitting and talking to Penelope when Derek walked back into the room Fran said, "well, how is my beautiful granddaughter today"?, Derek pulled his cell phone out and showed her and his sisters the pictures. Sarah said, "ohhhh baby brother, she's gorgeous and getting bigger".
Derek said, "she's gained almost 7 ounces so far", Desi said, "she's so adorable big brother", Derek looked at her and said, "and we were able to get some video, well Chelsea, that's the babies nurse for today, she was able to get video for us". He started showing his mom and sisters the video of him holding the baby.
Penelope was in a deep fog, she couldn't see anything but she could hear mumbled sounds and what she thought were voices but she couldn't be sure, not yet. She tried to move her arms and legs but couldn't, what had happened to her, what was wrong, she said to herself, "calm down Garcie, calm down and think, what was the last thing you remember"? and then she remembered, the last thing she remembered was Danny shooting her.
Her mind then flew to Derek and she wondered if he were alright, she said to herself, he has to be alright, I can't lose him", then her thoughts went to her daughter and she thought, "my baby, my baby, please let my baby be alright". Finally after a few minutes the fog started to lift and she could see light, bright light.
It was like the light was pulling her toward it, the sounds were getting clearer and it was definitely voices that she was hearing, she could make out the voices of Fran, Sarah and Desiree. She wondered where Derek was and then she heard his voice and a strange noise, what was that noise and then it registered, it was a cry, her daughter was crying.
She said to herself, "you can do this, you can wake up, your baby needs you, your family needs you, come on Garcie" and then her heart monitor started going crazy. Derek looked up from his cell and felt his heart racing as he watched her eyes starting to slowly open.
He was beside her in seconds, he took her hand in his and said, "you can do it baby girl, come on, come on, open those beautiful eyes for me, I know you can do it". Her eyes opened and he could tell that she was terrified, he leaned over her so that she could see his face and he said, "it's alright baby girl, you're here with us and you're safe, you and our daughter are safe".
Sarah ran out and told the doctor that she was waking up and then everybody was asked to step out so that they could check Penelope out since she had been unconscious for several days. Derek kissed her forehead and said, "I love you, I'll be right out in the hall and just as soon as they're finished I'll be right back in".
She blinked at him letting him know that she heard and understood him, she then watched as him, his mother and sisters were escorted from the room. Once they were out into the hall Derek sent a group text letting their family know that Penelope had finally woke up and it didn't take long before he got a text from JJ letting him know that they were all on the way to the hospital.
