"The cracks in the courtyard will take a while to fix Po."
Both Po and Master Oogway were sitting in the turtle's quarters. Oogway's room was similar to the students, except much larger. The wooden walls were covered in a red and green paint, similar to the style of the columns in the Hall of Warriors. The wooden panelling on the floor was only covered by a single rug. The rug was a lovely emerald colouring with a golden dragon stitched into the material. Shelves lined the back wall, covered in what Po could only guess to be souvenirs from the Master's long life. Among them were a belt, a horn from a rhino and a green gem of some kind that radiated Chi.
"I had hoped you would remember to restrain yourself over the years."
Oogway's voice dragged Po back to the conversation. Both were seated at a small table, steaming cups of tea left by servants of the palace.
"Maybe I wanted to show-off a bit" Po retorted, a smile dancing across his face. "Maybe a get a round of applause-Ow!"
"Unfortunately, you were not going to receive one." Oogway's frown stretched further, pulling back his staff from the panda's head. "What you did to Shifu was entirely unnecessary. Not only causing damage to the courtyard but to the Fives master. A fall like that will certainly keep Shifu off his feet for days at least. All to prove a point?"
Oogway sighed.
"I understand you and Shifu will not get along. It's unlikely after what happened and how it was handled. But, as residents of the Jade Palace, I will not tolerate you two fighting amongst each other. We are proud warriors, master's of Kung Fu. Not thick-headed bandits who use their fists to solve any problem. Act like it!"
"I understand," Po grumbled. "So long as he play's nice I will as well."
Oogway immediately brightened. "Excellent! Now, that's all I wanted you for, I'm sure you want to talk to Tigress now."
Po winced. "I honestly don't know how I'm going to start that conversation. 'Hey Tigress, want to talk about the incident in which I was thrown out of the palace and Tai got thrown into Chorh-Ghom prison?'"
Po slouched, his face falling into his massive paws. "I just don't want to mess things up even more."
"So far, I will admit, you have not been very good with your words." Oogway started. "You've thrown nothing but aggression towards the only man she can see as a father, and just finished putting him in the medical wing of the Jade palace during a spar-"
"Not helping Oogway!"
"…But, Tigress has missed you. She has never found it easy to express herself, you know that better than I. Talk to her. Having you back is certainly going to help bring back the happy child she once was. If not for you, not for me, but for Tigress."
Elsewhere…
"Mantis, stop asking."
"Oh, c'mon Tigress! You're the only one who seems to be willing to talk about the guy who just smashed Shifu into a crater with magic!" Mantis was waving his raptoriales* around madly. "And if this guy was banished, what did he do?!"
"You have to admit Tigress, it doesn't really make much sense." Viper spoke up now. "He may be a bit prone to overdoing it, but he doesn't seem like someone who would break one of the rules of the palace."
The three of them were in Tigress's room, Mantis having barged in and refusing to move until Tigress answered his questions, all related to a certain panda.
Tigress crossed her arms, baring her teeth in annoyance. "So, I tell you what happened, you leave and I can finally get some sleep?" Tigress growled out. At Mantis's nod, Tigress pushed the bug off her bed and sat down.
"It happened nearly 7 years ago. I don't know exactly when he arrived at the palace, but he was found young by… Tai Lung."
Mantis's jaw dropped. "You mean to tell me that Po was brought here by a lunatic?!"
"He wasn't like that then," Tigress snapped. "At that point he was still learning Kung Fu. Oogway gave Po a place to stay, he'd been living on the streets, taking food where he could get it or eating the bamboo around the Valley."
"Expectedly, Tai Lung and Po became friends quick. The two ate, trained and at some points slept in the same room. They matched each other, so much so that, when I arrived here from the orphanage, they were the two most powerful students in the palace."
A five-year-old Tigress heard slapping and yells inside the large hall in front of her. Shifu said that it was called the training hall or something like that. When the red panda moved to open the large door, Tigress moved behind him. Inside two students were fighting inside, one was a light grey snow leopard who easily towered over her and Shifu. The other was a rather rounded Panda, moving rather fast for someone that size. The leopard charged towards his opponent; claws outstretched.
The panda however stood firm waiting. When the leopard reached him, the panda grabbed the outstretched claw and pulled it past him. Moving around the leopard, the panda then grabbed the leopard's tail. Immediately, the leopard stiffened and quickly started talking to the panda.
"Po don't you dAHHHHHHHH-"
The panda started laughing boisterously as he swung the leopard by his tail into a wall near 5 meters away.
"Maybe you shouldn't make it so easy to grab your tail then Tai!"
A loud clapping sound distracting the two fighters from each other. Tigress looked to Shifu to see he had caused the sound.
"Excellent use of your opponent's weakness Po, though you certainly need to work on a style that works for you. You're simply predictable without one."
The master turned to the leopard who was rubbing his pulled tail and walking toward the group.
"And you need to work on hiding your tail. The moment someone grabs it you turn to a stiff block of wood."
"Yes Master" came from the two students. Shifu then turned to face Tigress once more.
"Tigress, these two boys are students of the Jade Palace, like you are now. The large Panda is named Po, and the Leopard with the tail problem is Tai Lung." Shifu said with a chuckle.
The moment Shifu had turned around though, Tai Lung had swatted Po in the back of the head, muttering about his tail.
"Boy's if you could at least act mature around the newest student, it would be greatly appreciated."
"New student?" Tai Lung asked. "You sure? She doesn't really look like much."
"And what's that supposed to mean!?" Tigress asked heatedly, claws coming out on reflex.
"Oooo! Got a bit of spunk in ya, kitten!" Po laughed, wrapping an arm around the small tiger. "A warm welcome from the future master Panda and the Dragon Warrior Tai Lung! C'mon, you gotta be hungry from the trip."
Po then lead Tigress toward the kitchen area, followed by Shifu and Tai Lung.
Present
"Things were a lot different back then."
"I'll say." Viper said. "But, what happened?"
"Tai-," Tigress started.
"That's something of a personal matter"
All three warriors turned to the door, a large and rotund shadow blocking light on the other side.
"Mind if we talk Tigress. Privately?"
"Uh, we'll just leave then…" Viper said, feeling a bit awkward.
"Yeah, we'll leave you to it." Mantis then opened the door and entered his own room.
The two stood there, quietly, trying to figure out what to say.
"Po-"
"Not here." Po interrupted. "The walls have nosy bugs in 'em" Po chuckled.
"Peach tree?" Tigress asked.
"Peach tree."
A/N Thanks to K-Rock 1315, CalvinFujii Skullkruncher13 and Wolf81 for following/favouriting the story. Sorry this took a while, I was having trouble figuring out how to put Po's backstory in.
Jim Helcon: I never said that Po was out of training. Just that he was unused to being woken up by a loud gong and sleeping in a normal bed, which is what caused him to sleep in and have to be woken up by said gong. Also, what is a lob? I don't know if that's a typo or just a term I've never seen before.
*Yes, that is what his thingies are called, according to google.
