Boone and Locke hadn't come back from the jungle yet and it was almost midnight. People started getting concerned. Shannon more than anyone else. She had confronted Kate about it but she had reassured that it was okay.
"Doctor!! Doctor!!" Walt yelled as he ran through the jungle to the cave. Vincent was following behind.
"I heard someone scream in the jungle! They were crying too! Vincent was barking like crazy!" Walt said frantically.
"Take me there!" Jack said. Shannon wanted in but Jack told her to stay put and wait for him. If it was really Boone and Locke, then he needed backup when coming back. And so Jack followed Walt into the jungle until they got close enough for Jack to make out the rest of the route.
"Go back to camp, Walt." He said and slowly approached the Beechcraft, where the noises were coming from. Small whimpers and soft cries.
"Hello?! Who's there?!" Jack called out.
"Jack...?" The voice was so helpless but Jack immediately recognized it. Boone. He knelt down and brushed the heroin off of Boone's body.
"I've got you. I've got you." Jack assured him. He grabbed Boone's arms and pulled at him. Boone cried out loud due to the pain, but Jack was quick to get him out of the plane. Boone was breathing heavily. Jack leans over him and brushed hair out of his face.
"You're gonna be okay, you hear me? I've got you. Where's John? Where's Locke?" Jack asked.
"Locke...? He was just here..." Boone said, confusion appearing in his voice. Then he started complaining about the pain in his leg.
"My leg... it hurts..." Boone said letting out a strangled cry. Jack was by his head within a second. He placed his hand on Boone's cheek.
"You're gonna be okay. But I have to get you back to camp. I'm so sorry."
Jack gently reached his arm under Boone's back and knees and slowly picked him up, making Boone scream at the top of his lungs. Jack wasn't sure wether the people at camp could hear him or not, but he didn't care either. He apologized and started walking. Boone's whimpers slowly died down and Jack realized that Boone had fainted.
Jack ran as fast as he could back to the cave. He was met by a lot of gasps and people who circled them.
"Space! Space! I need space!" Jack yelled and placed Boone on a mattress.
"Kate I need alcohol. All of Sawyer's alcohol! And Sun! I need a needle and a thread!" Jack ripped up Boone's shirt, seeing how badly cut it was. Kate ran off and Sun found the things, he had ordered. Boone was gaining consciousness again and he complained about the pain. Jack rubbed his cheek and said that it was gonna be fine. Then Boone started having trouble breathing and Jack realized that his lung collapsed.
"You're gonna be fine, Boone." Jack said and grabbed a knitting needle. He jabbed it into Boone's chest, who sucked up a breath.
"That's it. Let's get a tube in there, then it'll be fine." Jack said. Kate came back with the alcohol shortly after and Jack started stitching up Boone's wounds. Boone himself was almost too weak to respond.
Then Jack wrapped Boone up in a blanket and gently rubbed his arm while he was resting.
"How is he?" Kate asked. Jack looked at her.
"Bad... but I'm gonna fix him. The leg is the issue though. It will need surgery, but he's too awake to make it through the pain."
"Don't you have something to knock him out?" Kate asked and Jack hesitated.
"Sedatives should do it."
Kate turned around by the sound of Sawyer's voice.
"I said I didn't want you here." She said.
"Since when have I ever given a damn, Freckes?" Sawyer chuckled. "Look, I know I don't have a degree or anything, but I do know how to patch people up and I do know how much medicine a body can take before shutting down."
"How would you know?" Jack asked.
"Because I didn't down enough pills back when I didn't want to be here anymore." Sawyer said. "Now let's get to work, shall we?"
