"Are you going to kill me?" Kenna asks when Bash stops the car on the side of a dirt road.
It's their fifth wedding anniversary and he's taken her to the middle of nowhere and he hasn't let out an inkling of what they will do with their day. Just that she should wear some comfortable shoes, scrapping her hopes of feeling cute with some heels that morning.
Bash gives her a raised eyebrow, a smirk quirking his lips upwards. "Kill you?" He asks. "Darling, if I was going to kill you, I'd have done it by now."
She smacks him. "Bash!"
Letting out a laugh, he leans over the console to kiss her before pecking her nose and gesturing for them to get out of the car. She follows his actions, closing the door before he rounds the car and grabs her hand, leading her to the grassy field ahead of them and locking the car behind him.
It's Summer and it's nice and warm, Kenna feeling the lovely breeze hit her tanned legs as her romper shorts flow over her skin. It's not incredibly hot and sweaty but it's comfortable and she lets herself be dragged a good way away from the car.
"I bet you have a grave dug out there when we get there," she mutters lightly as she avoids stepping on some animal excrement.
"I have something dug out there," is her husband's cryptic reply before he remains silent. A plan.
"Have I been a shitty wife?" She continues with a giggle. "If I have, I've learned my lesson!"
She yelps when Bash stops and slings her over his shoulder. "Shut up," he says lightly before he lets out a soft chuckle, easily taking her to wherever he's taking her.
Kenna sways over his shoulder, looking at the car in the distance upside down. She feels him tap her butt lightly and she hums in reply when she realises he's asked her a question.
"You good up there? Zoned out on me for a bit," he tells her.
Kenna nods. "Yep. I'm good. Enjoying the ride before my demise."
She's met with another spank and she laughs, wishing he was spanking her in bed instead. Her eyes lower down to his own bottom and she slaps it which almost makes him drop her in surprise.
"We're playing like that now?" He asks.
"Nope! Don't," she begs, laughing. "Sorry, it was too good of a chance to pass up. What a bloody, lovely view I have of your arse. So hot."
"Thank you very much," her husband says proudly. "We're here."
He places her down and she turns to look out and see...
Nothing.
Except for hills and more hills... With trees.
"Why did you bring me here?" She asks as he entwines their fingers together.
Bash smiles. "Scream."
"Huh?"
"Scream," he says, nudging her shoulder. "Scream, shout, cry. Do anything."
Kenna blinks in confusion and surprise and he cups her cheeks, pressing his forehead against hers. "Why would I...?"
"Your mother called," he starts softly. "I'm sorry your grandmother died."
Tears spring to her eyes and she lowers her gaze. "I didn't want to ruin our anniversary considering last year's anniversary was shit. She died yesterday night."
Bash presses a kiss on her forehead and stares out behind her. "I'm so sorry. And you wouldn't have ruined anything, chérie," he tells her softly. "When you grieve, I grieve. And I know you've been dealing with that horrible client you can't say 'no' to." Then he lifts her chin so he can see her tear-filled eyes. "Now scream."
Kenna draws back and screams, her eyes squinting shut as Bash covers his ears, laughing. When she stops, she starts laughing too, feeling relieved. So, she tries it again.
Stopping, she turns to her wincing husband. "Join me."
"What?" He calls, still covering his ears.
She drags his hands down. "Shout with me. It's quite freeing!"
So he shouts with her and if anyone were passing by, they'd think these two people were the most insane people in the world. And they don't even care what other people think as Kenna jumps into his arms and he spins her around, their yells blending harmonically in the air.
They later find themselves cloud gazing. Or keep bringing up the fact that there are barely any clouds in the first place to gaze.
"We're probably laying in shit," Kenna says after a while.
"Yeah but we probably won't when we come back in the future," he replies, making her confused.
"Huh?"
Bash turns to her with a smile. "I did something."
Kenna blinks. "What did you do?" She asks simply because she trusts him.
Bash slips his phone out of his pocket, scans his fingertip and goes to his emails before finding what he needs and handing his wife his phone. "This land's ours. We're going to live here one day in the house we'll build together. You can have a giant wardrobe space for all of your clothes and shoes, I can have a grand barn and stables for my horses and we can have chickens and sheep and cows and sheepdogs-"
"Bash?" Kenna asks breathlessly.
Bash swallows hard. "I quit my job."
"Bash, how will we pay for-"
"I have a lot saved," he says. "We'll be mortgage-free. My grandfather on my mother's side left me quite the inheritance. I don't have to work one more day and still afford a lot."
Kenna blinks in surprise. "What about my job?"
Bash grins, getting up and pulling her up with him as he gestures to their surroundings, pointing to a spot on the left. "We could build you a studio and we could even use our home as a luxury wedding venue spot. Rustic weddings are 'in', I've done my research and asked your employees about your clientele." He gives her a warm smile. "I can run a wildlife camp with horseriding lessons and archery lessons, do something I love and enjoy. And we'll be together or near each other every day."
Kenna shakes, her eyes springing with tears as she tries to envision his plans, his grand vision for their future. "Will kids be a part of this? This dream of yours?"
Bash's hand slides to her small bump. "I know."
Her eyes widen. "I wanted to wait until today and-"
"I'm not stupid enough to know why you rush to the toilet every other hour," her husband teases her, nuzzling his nose against hers. "And with your work being stressful and losing your grandmother... I'm glad you saved this news for today and that's why I had to show you this place today as well."
Kenna lets out a sob, hugging him tightly as her hand grips onto his phone tightly. "I love you so much!"
"I love you too," he breathes out before getting on his knees and pressing a kiss against her covered bump. "And I love our baby too."
Kenna looks down at him, her heart swelling with love and pride. "They love you so much too..."
