Lucifer has done some crazy things in the past, standing in front of a sniper asking to be shot to name one, but this was on a whole new level. He got himself committed to a mental hospital. Chloe had herself thought of committing him to one more times than she could count, which made this worse because she was afraid that they would never let him out and as crazy as he was, she had to admit that she did enjoy working with him.
She had received a phone call from the said psychiatric hospital asking her if she was Chloe Decker, next of kin to Lucifer Morningstar. She felt an involuntary twinge of happiness at that fact. He had named her his next of kin. But it was suddenly replaced with concern. Was he in trouble?
'Yes, is everything alright? Is he alright?'
"Yes ma'am, everything is alright. But Mr. Morningstar got into n altercation with another patient and we are required by policy to inform you about it."
Her concern was replaced by confusion and then more concern. The call was from a psychiatric hospital and she put two and two together quickly. She was a detective after all and a good one at that. They were working on a murder case involving an orderly in a psychiatric hospital. And Lucifer committing himself into the said hospital for some reason that was probably not solving the murder was sadly something that didn't even surprise her anymore. But he was still her partner and for some reason highly effective in his job, a job he wasn't usually even trying to do.
She sighed. 'I'll be there to talk to him, in about half an hour.'
Throughout the drive, she was wondering if what Lucifer did was a good idea. She knew he was doing this to talk to Mr "God" Johnson, he said as much the last time she spoke to him. And they would probably have a lot to talk about considering their shared delusion about the divine. But it could also help a bit with her investigation. But the fact that he may never be let out of there did scare her a lot.
She pulled into the hospital for the second time in the day and went to reception. They pointed her to his doctor, Dr. Garrity. He told her that she didn't have to come out and that it was just hospital policy to inform her of what happened. He said that Lucifer had gotten into an argument with none other than Mr Johnson and had punched him in the face. She asked if she could speak to Lucifer and he agreed.
Lucifer was sitting in the Art room and his face lighted up when he saw her.
'Hello, Detective. Just the inspiration I needed. Please sit down, let me sketch you Detective, naked would be best.' He said smiling slyly.
She gave him a disapproving look but took the seat none the less. He started drawing just as quickly.
'Why the hell would you get yourself committed?'
'I did it to help with the investigation.' He said as if it should have been obvious. 'Hey, what do you think? Its good likeness isn't it?' he continued, showing her his apparent masterpiece which could barely be called a doodle.
It was a stick figure with boobs almost as big as its head. This man couldn't possibly be left alone in this place. She should pull him out while she still could.
'That's it, I'm pulling the plug. I'm getting you out of here, now.' She said getting up and walking to the door. But Lucifer stopped her.
'No, no, no, no. you were the one who said it would be difficult to interview God Johnson, so, I took some initiative. I went undercover. You must admit that having an inside man can be quite effective.'
'So you are doing this just to help with the investigation?' she asked incredulously.
'Well, there may also be some personal issues I would like to explore with Mr. Johnson. But yes, the main reason I came was to prove he's the killer.'
'Is that why you punched him? To force a confession?'
'Not exactly, but he had it coming.' He said evasively. But on her confused look he continued, 'You see Detective, he may actually be my father after all.'
'You decided that the lead suspect in this investigation is your father.' She couldn't believe this. She put up with the whole "I am the Devil" thing, but to decide that a random stranger is his father just because the guy called himself God is a bit too much even for him. She knew that she should just dismiss it, but she had to know, "Why?"
Lucifer sighed. 'Because he knew Samael! And, he may also have healed a person. You see detective, there was-'
'Wait, who is Samael?' she cut him off before he could finish the sentence.
She could see the annoyance on his face.
'I'm Samael, detective. And he called me that even before I introduced myself as Lucifer.'
'Wait-' but he cut her off.
'Is the mental hospital rubbing off on you detective, you seem awfully slow today.' She chose to ignore his comment and focus on what mattered.
'Is Samael your real name?'
Lucifer seemed irritated and uncomfortable talking about it. But she had to ask. If Samael was his real name, she could potentially find who or what he was before he came to L.A. it could get her one step closer into solving the enigma that is Lucifer. She had given up on it some time ago, but this was too good to let go.
'Well, I wouldn't say real. I'm known by many names each as real as the next, but, yes this was my first name, this was what my father called me.' She couldn't really pin point the emotion on his face. Was it shame? Is he shameful that he had accidentally revealed something real about himself? A chink in the method acting armor, as Ella would say.
'So, should I call you Sammy from now on?' she said playfully.
'Don't call me that! Please.' This flashed her back to the time when she almost touched his scars. The reaction was very similar. There have only been a handful of times when he showed her real emotion. His eyes were filled with pain and sadness masked by a lot of rage. For a second, Lucifer look old beyond his years, at least, his eyes did, like they've seen too much of this world, seen things she could not even begin to comprehend. Most of the time, this guy acted like a child, but this rare depth she rarely got a glimpse of actually scared her. But before she could think on it any further, he tried to change the subject.
'As, I was saying, another patient was attacked last night and I saw God Johnson heal her. And here is me being super duper helpful, before the orderlies took the victim away, she told me who did attack her.'
'Great, who?' she was done trying to figure this out.
'Santa Claus.' Lucifer looked totally serious as he told her this and she couldn't think of anything else to say. Maybe his being in here was a good thing.
She decided to go talk to his doctor. He seemed like a good guy and was kinda cute and she was pretty sure he was flirting with her. But her mind was preoccupied with Lucifer.
She was pretty sure that Santa Claus was not an actual lead, but Lucifer being here did give her a solid lead on his identity. His real name was Samael, before Lucifer. She did not have a last name, but since it is a pretty uncommon name, she may be able to find something.
On the ride back, she decided to call Dan.
'Hey, Chloe, did Lucifer really check himself into the mental hospital?'
She sighed, 'Yes he did. He also decked God Johnson'
'Wow, will they let him out, because, if they won't, I wouldn't complain about it.'
'That's not what I wanted to talk to you about; I think Lucifer accidently told me his real name. He seemed really embarrassed that he did and asked me never to call him that.'
'Okay, so what's his real name? Please tell me it's something embarrassing.'
'Not quite, but it's rare so, we may be able to find out more about him. It's Samael.'
'Samael? That is a rare name. I'll check it out.'
Maze called her after that saying something about going out. She just laughed when she heard Lucifer was in a mental hospital. For some reason, she didn't ask Maze about Samael. She also called Linda, who was much more concerned about the news and asked her to check on Lucifer.
She continued her normal work after that, she had a killer to catch. She was sitting at her desk and going through the evidence when Dan found her. His expression told her that he didn't find anything useful.
'I couldn't find any Samael in any database, at least none that resembles our guy. But, out of curiosity, I googled it.' His expression turned grim.
'Don't tell me…' she was almost sure about what Dan was going to say and she did not like it.
'It's another name for the Devil. His name before he fell, the name that signified his father's love for him.'
'I can't believe this; he looked so angry and embarrassed when he said it, like he slipped up. He did not want me to know it.' For some reason Chloe felt upset.
'Well, it was what his father called him, before he was cast out of heaven, the devil would hate it, so him playing the Devil would hate it too.'
'But how does he keep up Dan? He hated the fact that he told me. How could he be so immersed in a character? Does he even remember his actual real name?'
'Maybe, it is his real name. I mean, the man's got issues, maybe it's because his parents were freaks who named their children after angels from the bible, because even Amanadiel is the name of an angel.'
She considered it for a second. It made sense, but a lot of things still did not add up.
'Yeah, but once Amanadiel told me that they had a very bad childhood and that Lucifer is the Persona he took to cope with it, but I didn't really believe it and if what you said is true, why would Amanadeil lie about it.'
'Well, our theory is just that, a theory, maybe Amanadeil's version is the truth.'
'But that does not explain his name, or Lucifer's, because I really believe that Samael is his real name, his reaction to it, it was different, it was real. And also, we do not have any background on Amanadeil either, it like he just showed up out of nowhere.'
'I don't know what to say Chloe, and I don't think we will find any answers.' Dan sighed, giving up.
'Unless, Lucifer is telling the truth, he really is the Devil.' Ch;oe added thoughtfully.
They were both quiet for a second, and then they both started laughing. It seemed that they have yet again reached a dead end in their search to understand the ever present mystery that is Lucifer Morningstar. But as she had said to him once before, 'she needed the eggs.'
Lucifer was her partner, he was always there when she really needed him, he saved her life countless times and all the sexual innuendoes aside, she really liked working with him. But honestly, she did like their constant banter. Everyone needs a bit of fun in their life, and Lucifer is nothing if not fun.
