I woke up pretty groggy. Well, I always wake up groggy. But my bed... it felt...weird...
I sat up and rubbed my eyes. As a looked around my setting, I stretched and yawned.
It wasn't Cabin 3, nor was it my room at my mom's house. Which I thought was odd. The room, I say it's safe to assume to call it a room, had a queen-ish size bed with blue sheets, comforter, and pillowcases. Hanging on one of the walls was a Captain's Wheel with an obviously fake fishing net intertwined in it. There was a bookshelf on one of the walls, each shelf was halfway filled with books while the other side of the shelf had personal belongings like pictures, and a box.
The thought of it being someone else's room startled me. I quickly out of the bed and looked down to have a set of "normal" pajamas on. I sighed as I walked over to the door and opened it.
When I opened the door, the smell of waffles filled my senses. It smelled nice. Reminded me of home. Home, I thought. Home. Where am I?
A boy with jet black hair that needed a bit of a hair cut looked at my direction. He looked like he was mid-bite when he looked at me because he had a fork to his mouth. "Oh!" The boy said. "Morning, Pearl!" He waved his hand with the fork at me.
Pearl? Is that my name? Oh well. I politely waved back with a nod, even though I had no idea who he was.
My gaze lingered over to a woman with long brown hair, who was flipping the waffle maker. She turned around and she was wearing an apron that had words floating around it. I walked over in her direction, taking note of the aroma in the room. The woman walked up to me and hugged me with one arm and kissed the top of my head. "Morning sweetie," The woman said. "Are you hungry?"
Now that she had mentioned it... I do seem a little hungry. I nodded as I looked back at the boy.
On the table, it had a bottle of syrup in the middle and the boy had 2 waffles on his plate, well, one full one and the other is what he was eating, but the waffles were blue?
Where even am I? That's my first question, my second being why his waffles were blue...? I had no answers as of now.
I sat down at the table as I tried to make sense of all of this. "Today's the reaping," the boy said in between bites.
Reaping? What the hell? What is a reaping? And why is it today? I had to update my list of questions. I managed to choke out a "yep." With a smile.
The woman put a plate in front of me. I looked down and it was two waffles. And they were blue? I questioned it, but I did mutter a "thank you" to the woman.
Around noon, I and the boy decided to go on a walk. He guided me through the city and eventually the shore.
The shore was beautiful. There were docks everywhere leading out to the ocean. The ocean stretched as far as the eye could see and the way that the light struck it gave it this blue tent that made the view even more magnificent.
I was awestruck. The smell of salt water filled my senses.
The boy and I walked down towards the end of the dock. "Pearl," the boy said, knocking me out of my senses. "You haven't been yourself all morning. Are you feeling alright?"
I looked at him as I contemplated what to tell him. "The thing is," I sighed. "I don't know myself."
The boy huffed. "Well," He stuck his hand out as if he wanted a handshake." "I'm Percy Jackson," He smiled.
I shook his hand. And I pointed to myself. "Wh-who, am I?"
"Your Pearl Jackson. My twin sister."
Twins, I thought. I looked at my hair, yep. We're definitely twins. As we sat on the edge of the dock, Percy explained that the lady in the kitchen was our mom. He also explained that the districts are like states, across the country. And that there are 12 districts and we live in district 4. The districts specialize in different departments based on their locations. And district 4 specializes in fishing.
He also explained what The Reaping is. The capital has this game, called the Hunger Games, and that The Reaping is mandatory in every district and it chooses one male and one female aged from 12-18 to participate, known as tributes. And that volunteers are also excepted as the tributes.
After explaining all my questions, we made our way through the city back into the house. I looked at the clock and it said it was about noon. Which meant, there were two hours before The Reaping started.
I gave myself a little reminder that I need to start getting ready in about an hour. I walked into my room and belly-flopped onto my bed. I still don't remember much about myself, but Percy gave me the essentials that I needed for today.

"Pearl!" The woman who was my mom yelled from the door. "We're going to be late!"
I struggled to put my second shoe on. "Coming!" I yelled as I fumbled to the door and tried to keep my balance.
Outside, there was Percy, Sally, or my mom, and this man named Paul, who was evidently my stepfather. Once I got on the sidewalk, I figured out how to balance myself long enough to walk to the bus stop that would take us to the seam, where The Reaping is held. I sat on the bench as other people gathered around waiting for the bus to arrive.
A modest light blue dress with flowery lace lining the top, off the shoulder sleeves and satin that ends at my knees. My shoes were Navy Blue, Sparkly, 2 1/2 inch heels, that are almost to small, for me, but I decided to wear them one last time. "Why are you getting so dressed up if we could be getting sent to our death?" Percy asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Cause if I end up going to the capital, I want to look nice." I quickly respond as I focus on what's to come.
