How The War of Transgression Really Started

A long time ago, in a world far away, there were two kingdoms. One kingdom was called Gran Pulse, and the other kingdom was called Cocoon. For many years, there was nothing but fear and mistrust between the two kingdoms. To try and bring peace to the world, the rulers of each kingdom agreed to meet with each other. They brought their young children too, eager to foster a sense of friendship and good will.

That did not happen.

"That's mine!" Princess Lightning Farron tackled Princess Oerba Yun Fang and made a grab for the wooden practice sword.

"You weren't using it!" Fang tried to shove Lightning away with one hand and hold the sword with the other.

"It doesn't matter that I wasn't using it. It's still mine!" Lightning had abandoned any attempt at pulling the sword away from Fang in favour of trying to choke her from behind. "And remember your spear? You weren't using it yesterday, and you still wouldn't let me try it."

"Because it's mine!" Fang gasped. Lightning was doing a surprisingly good job of trying to lock in the choke, which left Fang with only one choice…

"Ouch!" Lightning let go of Fang and clutched at her arm. Her lips curled into a snarl. "You bit me, you savage!"

"Because you were trying to choke me!" Fang stamped the ground. "What else was I supposed to do? Let you choke me?"

"Yes!" Lightning stamped the ground back. In all of her eleven years of life, no one had ever bitten her. Not even Serah had done that, and her little sister could be vicious. "What I get rabies?"

"I don't have rabies!" Fang growled. "What if I get some weird disease from biting you? What if you're the one who has rabies?"

Not far away, the two younger sisters were getting into their own fight. Both had decided to use the distraction to make a move on the unguarded lunches.

"You were trying to steal my sister's lunch!" Vanille jabbed one finger at the pink-haired demon who had dared to lay hands on Fang's lunch, her eyes alight with righteous fury.

"So what?" Serah put her hands on her hips. "You're holding my sister's lunch. You were doing the same thing."

"I was not." Vanille looked at the lunch in her hand in mock-surprise. "I don't know how that got there. Someone else must have put it in my hand."

"Stop lying!" Serah went for the headlock, just like her sister had taught her. "You were so stealing my sister's lunch."

"Gah!" Vanille managed to squirm out of the headlock. She retaliated in the only way she knew how - she whacked Serah over the head with Lightning lunch.

Unfortunately for Serah, Lightning's lunch included an apple. The apple caught Serah square in the eye, and she went down like a sack of bricks, clutching at her face.

"My eye." Serah wailed. "I think I'm blind."

"What?" Vanille gaped. Then she noticed the apple. "Crap!" She grabbed Serah's head.

"Wait, let me have a look at that."

The area around Serah's eye was already swelling up.

"Oh crap…" Vanille scratched the back of her head. She didn't want to cause a war or anything, so… "Look, why don't you hit me back so we're even -"

WHAM.

For an eight-year-old, Serah packed a mean right cross. Vanille's head jerked back, and soon it was two young princesses rolling around on the ground and clutching at their faces.

The king and queen of Gran Pulse escorted the king and queen of Cocoon back to the courtyard where they'd left their children to play during negotiations. The guards flanking the edges of the courtyard looked to be caught between bursting out laughing and crying in despair. Surely, nothing had happened? The guards had been ordered to let the princesses play uninterrupted, but they had also been ordered to intervene the moment any of the princesses were put in mortal danger.

Clearly, they should have received different orders.

The two older princesses, Lightning and Fang, were pulling each other's hair and screaming insults. The younger princesses, Serah and Vanille, were laying on the ground with black eyes.

"You know," the king of Cocoon said. "We just signed a peace treaty, but I can think of another way of averting war."

"Yes," his counterpart from Gran Pulse said, shaking his head as he gestured for his guards to separate Lightning and Fang. "We could have our children fight a proxy war."

"I don't know," the queen of Cocoon said. "I can think of another solution."

The queen of Gran Pulse giggled and smiled evilly. "We could always just betroth them to each other."

And that, boys and girls, is how the War of Transgression really started.

Author's Notes

As always, I neither own Final Fantasy, nor am I making any money off of this.

I wanted to go for something a little shorter and more light-hearted this time, a little bit of silliness and fluff ^_^. You can only imagine how Fang and Lightning react when they find out.

I also write original fiction, mostly fantasy. You can find links to it in my profile.

As always, I appreciate feedback. Reviews and comments are welcome.
