Song: Love Will Light the Way by David Benoit (feat. Jane Monheit)
On many cold Toronto night such as this, Julia Odgen Murdoch sits by the fire, a cup of tea in her hand and a book in the other. This week's reading is Clotel; or, The President's Daughter: A Narrative of Slave Life in the United States written by William Wells Brown: a novel of Thomas Jefferson's daughters which explores slavery's destructive effects on African-American families, the difficult lives of American mixed-race people, and the "degraded and immoral condition of the relation of master and slave in the United States of America. Light reading indeed. It is these nights when he, sitting across from her, fiddles with a new puzzle he's created, his eye sight never quite leaving her. His wife is swathed in a long white nightdress, a fetching housecoat over it, and her golden curls surrounding her shoulders. He is transfixed by this creature and although she is curled up on the loveseat, her right leg is down, her foot playing with his socked feet absentmindedly. Whenever they can, they must be touching at all times, making sure the other is there. Despite the scene in front of him, William becomes melancholy.
"Julia."
Turning a page and taking a sip of her hot tea, careful not to spill it on her book. "Hm?"
"Julia, why?"
"Why what, William?" Her nose isn't out of her book as of yet.
The detective lets his emotions get the best of him. "Why do you love me?" This definitely catches her attention.
"What kind of question is that, William?" Placing her cup down into the saucer and her bookmark of into her book, Julia looks over at her husband with concern. He was adamant though, he wanted, no needed this answer from her. The rational side of his brain knew why she loved him, she'd told him as much and in very great detail over their acquaintance, especially in the last few years. The normally controlled man's voice caught. "Julia, please. I need to know."
Somewhere a light is shining out in the darkest night
Maybe a silver lining will be hiding in plain sight
Standing and walking over to the settee the good doctor sat beside her trembling husband taking his head in her hands. "William, I love you because you're you. Your mind, your heart and your soul. Your principles, your dedication, your loyalty. Your smile, your laugh and just how much you love me."
Tears freely fell down his cheeks as she tenderly wiped them away. "Julia, you never cease to believe in me and in what I do."
"Oh William, how can I not? You have saved my life more times than I care to admit. I have always believed in you. You must know that by now." Embracing him and pulling him deep into her chest, Julia purred sweet words into his ear. "Darling, please don't cry. William, I love you. I will always love you. You have my heart and you always will."
So when you are lost and lonely, don't ever be afraid
Follow me and you will see, our love will light the way
Suddenly breaking from her embrace, William held onto Julia's shoulders looking directly into her piercing blue-green eyes which were watery with her own tears. "Julia, you have been one of the best things to ever happen to me. I don't ever want to lose you. Please, don't leave me." Wiping away his tears once more, she gently pulled him toward her in a sweet but chaste kiss. "Hush, William. You know I'm not going anywhere."
I'm always by your side through the churning tide and the winter's storm, I'll keep you safe and warm
Laugh until the clouds are rolled away
Life will bring joy and sorrow, skies will be blue and grey
Tears will fall but through it all, our love will light the way
Breaking free of her husband, the doctor stood up outstretching her hand to him. "Come with me." Wiping his face with his handkerchief, William stood and followed his wife into the bedroom holding her hand the entire way. He didn't expect to break down like this, he almost felt embarrassed. Reaching the bed, Julia sat down upon it pulling her husband toward her so that he stood in between her legs. "Make love to me, William."
Listen your heart is speaking, your ever constant guide
Sometimes the brightest beacon is the one that burns inside
I know you don't believe it, but I see it clear as day
Until you do I'll comfort you and love will light the way
Lifting her easily with both arms, Julia straddled him as they found one another's mouths. The salt from his tears entered into her mouth, helping to increase her desire and love for him. He responded in part, holding her deftly and kissing her neck hungrily. Moaning deeply, Julia lifted her nightdress and reached down to unbutton her husband's trousers. Helping her along, his desire becoming unbearable after taking in her scent, William freed himself from the encumbrances of his attire, letting it fall in a pool beneath him as their kissing turned into burning passion. Cupping her left breast as he held her aloft, Julia ripped her lips away from him as she moaned in pleasure, her hair cascading down behind her. He could take it no longer and placed her over his member entering her sweetly, but swiftly. Both cried out in pleasure as they quickly found a rhythm that worked for the both of them. Finding one another's mouths again, Julia moaned into her husband's ear, "I love you, William. I love you so much. Harder, darling, harder." He increased his pace, much to her surprise and happiness.
I'm always by your side through the churning tide and the winter's storm, I'll keep you safe and warm
Laugh until the clouds are rolled away
Life will bring joy and sorrow, skies will be blue and grey
But no matter where you are constant is another turn on love will lead the way
Feeling herself come close to the edge, Julia Odgen Murdoch whispered once more into his ear, "I love you, my husband," and as she felt herself overcome with emotion a wave of electricity took over her body. Crying out as he felt her orgasm, he quickly finished with her, both panting as he continued to grind their bodies together to ride the wave. He carried her with himself still inside of her, laying her gently down and on the bed, never letting her go from him. As they heaved and held each other tight, their hearts racing, William lifted his head to his wife, kissing her gently. "I hope you will never doubt me again, William."
