Life got in the way on this and I realized that I hadn't updated in forever. I went back and read the last chapter I posted and realized the story wasn't finished! So please enjoy.
New Chances
Chapter 10-2 years later
Ellie had gotten her GED, but life got in the way of her furthering her education, in the best way possible. Twins; Ava and Hunter had joined the family and were amazing additions. At six months old, they were adored by every member of the family, even sometimes grumpy Kaitlyn.
Mike had ended up taking a desk position. He was home every night by six, had weekends off and enjoyed his work. He, Kaitlyn and Hannah had all been in intensive therapy and things were much better. Kaitlyn had even changed her last name back to Slattery and she absolutely doted on the twins. In some ways, it was Ava and Hunter that connected her to the family. And she and Ellie had developed a close relationship; so much so that Kaitlyn was Ellie's maid of honor.
Mike and Ellie planned a small wedding, with just family and a few friends. It was in the backyard, and Ollie gave Ellie away. Charlotte was flower girl and Hannah was a bridesmaid. Mike danced with Ellie, Gwen and both his older daughters. He was getting ready to dance with Charlotte when Hunter spit up all over him, causing many laughs.
"Good thing you're not wearing an expensive tuxedo." Tom remarked as Mike cleaned himself off. Kaitlyn had taken Hunter from him and immediately got him calmed down.
"No kidding. I will be so glad when they are out of the spit up stage." Mike said. He absolutely adored Hunter and Ava.
"Next will come the projectile vomiting stage." Gwen said with a laugh. Ava giggled and lunged for Mike, who took her gladly.
"That's okay. Ava would never puke on me; would you, baby girl?" Mike said. Ava gurgled in response. She began chewing on Mike's collar.
"Hunter spits up all over you and Ava uses you to chew on. They have you all figured out." Ellie said before giving Mike a kiss.
"Alright, don't you think you two should leave for your honeymoon weekend?" Gwen asked.
"We should help you clean this all up." Mike said. He handed Ava to Gwen and began trying to gather plates and cups up.
"We'll help. You guys kiss the kids goodbye and enjoy yourselves." Tom ordered.
"We will take you up on that." Mike said. He bent down and kissed Charlotte's head, and then gave Kaitlyn and Hannah kisses. He gave Ollie a high five and then kissed the twins while Ellie did the same.
"I know we shouldn't say this, but I wouldn't mind you brought home a souvenir if its as cute as Hunter or Ava." Kaitlyn remarked.
"KAITLYN!" Mike said.
"Just saying." Kaitlyn said before giving Mike another hug. Ellie loved watching them interacting now.
"That won't be happening, but thank you for helping Mom." Ellie said. She gave Kaitlyn a hug before Mike pulled her away.
"A hotel room, room service and a jacuzzi tub awaits. Let's go." Mike said. She followed him through the house, where he grabbed their bag, and out to the truck.
Mike was careful with their money, but he had splurged on their honeymoon weekend. They had barely been out since she had gotten pregnant with the twins. It was time.
The hotel was absolutely beautiful and Ellie could foresee anniversary trips in their future. There was a king-sized four poster bed, a balcony, fireplace and every luxury that Ellie could imagine. So much different then her first honeymoon, such as it was.
"This is so beautiful, Mike." Ellie said, before giving Mike a kiss. She was still in her dress, but had kicked her shoes off.
"I'm glad you like it. I thought you deserved something special. I knew you would never go for a long trip away from the kids, but figured I could make this special. There's wine, stuff for sandwiches, chocolates and other stuff in the fridge. Are you hungry?" Mike asked.
"It is perfect and no, I'm not hungry right now." Ellie answered as she unbuttoned Mike's shirt. He had managed to get most of the spit up off of it but the stain made her smile.
"Me either. God, I love you so much." Mike said before giving her another kiss and unzipping the back of her dress.
"I love you too." Ellie answered as they fell onto the bed.
Several hours later, Ellie smiled over at Mike, who was sound asleep next to her. More then having time away from the kids, they needed rest. There was a constant need with the kids. It was why she hadn't gone back to school yet. Mike encouraged her too, but Ellie really loved being a mother, and he supported that too. At least she had her GED, only because of Mike's support. They would be just fine.
