No more than shortly after Naruto had passed out from crying over the biggest regret before his debt, did he found himself sitting in the back seat of a moving car, which he didn't mind.
"About time you got up" came a different voice, as it was coming from the driver's seat.
Looking through the rear view mirror, the person was male wearing a denim jacket over a black sweater, as he had short brown hair and a beard and mustache.
"Who are you" asked Naruto, "All questions are to be withheld until further notice" said the driver as he kept his eyes on the road.
While Naruto wanted to complain, something about the driver came off to him like one wrong move and he'd be dead, even though he already was dead.
Turning his head around, Naruto saw Ruby, who was in her dead form as she silently stared at the floor of the car.
Placing his hand on her shoulder resulted in Ruby to jump and let out a startled gasp before she looked back at Naruto.
"Sorry about that Ruby, you looked like you were in a daze for a minute there" said Naruto, "I'd say she was frighten by your mug" commented the driver under his breath.
"Everything alright" asked Naruto, "Yeah, I'm good, just trying to keep my head down low is all" said Ruby as Naruto raised his brow out of concerned as he looked back at Ruby before the driver.
"Who's this asshole and should I kick his ass" whispered Naruto to Ruby, "This asshole you're referring to is Death himself, you walking piece of burnt toast" said the driver as he looked at Naruto through the rear view mirror.
Hearing that comment and his title, got Naruto to look at his charred hands, before realizing he was in his dead form as well.
Looking up, Naruto was ready to speak out, before Death himself intensed his gaze, which was enough to petrify and shut Naruto up as he continued to drive.
"No worries, we're not that far from where you guys need to be at" said Death casually as Naruto was beginning to worry and have thoughts as to what is to become of him and Ruby, who in turned gripped his hand out of comfort for herself and him.
After driving around for 5 more minutes, they came to a sudden stop to what was ruined temple, which seemed out of place considering there was no place like this back home, though it could be argued they weren't in Kansas, let alone the Emerald City.
"Alright, we're here" said Death as he began to open the glove box in the passenger seat, where he grabbed 2 blank Polaroid pictures, before handing them to Naruto and Ruby.
"Alright, what you guys are going to do is go into that temple and with those photos, which will remain blank until I leave, from there it'll be a straightforward answer to all your guys problems and lingering regrets to your old lives" said Death as he unlocked the doors.
Taking that as their cue to git, Naruto and Ruby exited the vehicle, before closing the door behind the as Death rolled down his window.
"I'll be back in a few days to get you guys" said Death before promptly leaving the duo alone as he drove off into the road, where night time began to fade and in its place was the morning sunrise.
Also was the fact was the body condition for both Naruto and Ruby was already healing and restoring along with their free will and courage.
"Well that was an unpleasant ride" Naruto as he began to relax a little, "At least you spared from his introduction" said Ruby.
"Yeah, sorry about that, though I've been meaning to ask how'd that happened" asked Naruto, "Shortly after you cried yourself to sleep, he rolls in and the moment he opened the door to the driver's seat and stepped out, the sun was gone in favor of the night, I kid you not" said Ruby.
"Ok, so what happens then" asked Naruto, "He told me who he was and to get in the car with him, where I was ready to tell him no and asked him why he threw a bottle at me earlier, but he just stared me down into submission, before having me drag you into the back seat with me" explained Ruby.
Remembering how Naruto was silenced into submission by the guys smoldering gaze, Naruto had nothing but sympathy for Ruby to deal with what was a terrible first impression experience.
"Sorry that you had to deal with him" said Naruto as both turned to face the temple, before looking at the still blank photo's in their hands.
"We should go inside and see about getting the answers he promised us" said Ruby, "Yeah, though you got to admit his instructions and telling us how to do it come of fishy don't they" said Naruto, "Not gonna argue with that".
Putting their photo's away, both Naruto and Ruby decided to enter the temple at long last to get answers they've long been needing at last and maybe even figure a way out of this world, or better said life to whatever awaits them in the great beyond.
Alright, going to be ending things right here, as it'll serve as an introduction to the following chapters, which I'll be working on these next few days.
